This visit we are planning to spend a day at Universal, but I haven't a clue as to what the diference is between the 2 parks. My kids are 5, 7, and 12. I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions....Thanks

Keeprskeeper,

Both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are great parks - I could easily spend a day in each of them.
At the moment, the general opinion seems to be that IOA is better for rides and I agree. Its was only opened in 1999 (?) so the every ride is up to date. Universal Studios, however, has a few rides which could do with a bit of renovation:rolleyes: and they're working on it now. Hanna Barbera and Kongfrontation are the most recent rides to be removed from the park so hopefully there'll be some new attractions this year or next.

The main attractions in IOA:
Spiderman - 3-D simulation, moving around a track - sounds weird but is my favourite ride outside of WDW
The Hulk, Duelling Dragons - both are roller coasters
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, Popeye + Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges - both water rides where you get SOAKED :D
Jurassic Park - great ride based on the movie with a massive drop at the end (you get soaked here too ;) )

The main rides at Universal Studios are Jaws, Twister, Back to the Future, Men In Black.

I'm sure children would love both parks - in IOA there's a Dr Suess area (Suess Landing) which has a Cat in the Hat ride, the Green Eggs and Ham cafe and I think it also has a play area.

Will you be going to both parks?
Anway, hope this info has helped :D

If its thrill rides your after then Islands of Adventure is the best option or if u prefer a mix of movie related rides (all worth a look!) and shows then Universal studios may get the vote. Both are excellent parks and if its possible, get a 2-day 2-park ticket so you can enjoy both. Personnally, im a Studios fan but thats because im a film buff and love the whole atmosphere of the park. The kiddie-winks will probably prefer IOA given all the great new rides they have there (Spiderman is an absolute must do!)
Im not sure when US will have their three new rides up and running yet so its possible they will still be doin a fair bit of maintenance. Id imagine The Mummy/Jimmy Neutron/Shrek rides would be running by summer or fall 2003.:)
