After spending 3 weeks in Florida in October 2002 money is a bit tight. We would like to get married in either Las Vegas or Florida and we were wondering what the law requirements were for each State. We have found out a lot of information for Las Vegas but not so much for Florida. Are there wedding chapels in Florida like as in Vegas and is it just as easy to obtain licenses etc to get married when you are from another country.

thanks nyck & lisa (uk)

Hi

I am getting married in florida in 6 weeks......(angela put the shotgun down i'll be there).....we are getting married at Cyrpess Grove in a Wedding gazebo

Cypress Grove (http://www.cypressgrovepark.com)

There are wedding chapels in orlando and sure someone on here wil lhave web links. The law in florida states you to be in the state for 3 days before you get married and you have to have a wedding licence to get married. They cost $90 and you can get married at the court house were you get your marriage licence.....check this link out for mori info

Orange County Court (http://orangeclerk.onetgov.net/faq/faq-marriagelicense.htm)

Nyck & Lisa:

Congrats on the upcoming marriage! I'm engaged as well and will be tying the knot in May of this year!

MUCH easier to get married in Nevada than Florida. I have traveled to Las Vegas MANY times (I have an uncle that lives there), and there are chapels-a-plenty. Nevada laws regarding marriage are much more relaxed than in Florida. On a recent trip to Vegas, I passed numerous chapels offering weddings for as low as $25 (American). I'm sure there are some chapels scattered throughout Florida, but I don't think you'll find the volume of chapels in Florida like you would in Nevada.

As for laws regarding marrying if from another country, I should probably defer my comments to someone who knows what the heck they're talking about - I'm no international lawyer :)

'ang on a mo ;-)

I don't see how it could be much easier to get married in vegas than Florida...

Having just got married in Disney I can tell you that you simply go to the court house with identification (we used our passports) and $88.50 in cash and ten mins later you walk out with a marriage license that is valid immediately and for the following 60 days.

That's it!

There is no waiting period for out of state people and you don't have to be in state for 3 days or anything like that.
(the exception is that if you're a Florida resident, you either wait 3 days or you take a premarital preperation course)

We flew in and got into our hotel at about 1am on the Friday, got the marriage license about 12pm on the same day and got married the next day at Disney.

The officiant who you get to do your ceremony takes care of sending the license to the florida courthouse and they then file it etc. and send you all the proper documents you need. We got ours just a couple of weeks after having been married there.

A good tip is to give a few $s to the officiant to ask for copies of the wedding license ($2 each)... its useful to send them out to banks and the like if your intended is going to want to change her name, update status to married etc.

There are wedding chapels around Florida too... perhaps not as many as along the vegas strip ;-) but all sorts of prices and options. Have a good look at the link redkop posted.. friends of ours were married at cypress grove and they have the *best* photos ... the scenery and everything is just amazing.

It'll come down to where you want to remember getting married (and where you spend the honeymoon too ;-)

...but really I can't imagine that it could be any easier to get married that it was in Florida (and we're from the UK so yep, no problems being from another country ;-)

All the best and good luck where-ever you choose!

Anyone know if they have drive-thru wedding chapels in Florida? They do in Vegas - you can get married SUPER quick - just like ordering fast food! :)

Don't know the answer although the taxi driver we had in Florida said they did have (but he was kinda a joker anyway ;-)...

...but I did see one in vegas because there was a documentary being filmed about it as we went past. Can't say I fancied it much ;-) but it was certainly there.

When we saw the documentary the presenter asked if they were going allow couples to reverse back through and get it reversed if it didn't work out... the guy either completely missed the humour or was really good at not smiling and said "oh yes, well the divorce/anullment drive through will be the next window on the other side when we get some legal issues sorted out. So they won't need to reverse at all, just keep on going and stop at the next window"

too funny :)

I know personally that I would plump for Florida every time.

I don't know what it is about Vegas, but it always appears as though it's a cattle market, with people being herded through as quickly as possible and onto the next couple asap.

Perhaps I'm just biased, but I can't think of anywhere more magical to tie the knot than Florida. We've already been married 5 years, but plan to renew our vows for our 10th anniversary, okay 4 and a half years away yet, but I am hoping to include a stay in GF in all that!

And by the way, you're all invited! :ears: :hehe: :ears:

If you are thinking of getting married in Las Vegas, the Bellagio Hotel is supposed to be the best. We hope to stay there in Nov 05 for my hubbys 40th, or maybe we will come to our senses and stay at the GF/

I don't think you can have a Star Trek wedding in Florida so if you're really set on that one you have to go to Vegas. :hehe:

We thought about both... we do like Vegas a lot (and were there in christmas 2001) but its a nighttime place..... I don't much like it in the day (although obviously there's the grand canyon, hoover *** etc)....

In the end, for us, it was Florida all the way.. but vegas is a great place and the Bellagio as someone said, is truly brill with the dancing water show and things.

Yep... you pick up marriage license, get married.. then in Florida, the person who marries you sends the license back to the court house on your behalf.

The court house then sends the paperwork back to you in England... no extra cost (or rather, I imagine its included in what you pay for the license).

It's wise as we said to get a few authorised copies sent back to you too... for Florida, this was $2 each. I put $10 in the envelope (it was the only note I had with me at the time) and a few days after we got home all the paperwork arrived with 5 extra copies (which have saved us time because we had to keep sending them off to banks and so on to change the name).

Whichever you do you're going to have a great time so don't sweat it.... I'm 100% happy we got married in Florida as you can tell but hey, that star trek wedding in vegas would've had me tempted ;-) (Helen would've just wanted to do the Elvis one though :(

Hey, when is your anniversary? Ours is August 31, 1997 and I'm looking for a vow renewal in 4 and 1/2 years too.

Okay, in staying with the topic of the thread...
I too don't have any interest in returing to Vegas. We've been a few times and I just wasn't impressed. Stayed at the Mirage and Luxor too and just couldn't find any "magic". We always head back to WDW.

Ours is on September 13th!

We initially wanted to book the 6th of September, but couldn't get the church on that date....

As it turned out, in some ways it was 'good luck' in that the 6th was the day of Princess Diana's funeral......
