This really applies to UK'rs.

I've been twice and am going on 24th March-26th March.

You see, we have THIS wonderful site for WDW discounts etc. but I can't find anything along the same lines for DLP!

Who's been, who's got any tips for saving money etc.

I know you US'rs think it's cheap to visit for us, but I think it's really expensive for a short break across 21 miles of water!!!:(

Any help out there???

has anyone been on the train, there is an station right outside isn't there?

Whitequeen
January 29th, 2003, 14:49
Yep, Rookie,

Done the train!!! It is soooooo much better than Driving, BUT!!!!!!
The one directly to DLP doesn't get there until 1pm+!! Half a day lost!!!!! Which is OK if you're going for a week but not good for a 2nighter!! It's very expensive too!!

It does take you to the station at DLP and Mickey is usually there to meet you. Coming home can be a bit of a 'pain'.
Unless it's Peak time you have to change at Lille.

DS & I went for his 5th birthday and coming home was not so good. We waited for over an hour when changing at Lille. Then when we got off at Ashford had to wait another hour for the train home. Late at night and very cold. Waterloo is probably better to get off but we are in-between and I hate going back on myself! :hehe:

maybe we'll drive then, how far is it from the chunnel to DLP?

Whitequeen
January 29th, 2003, 15:02
From Calais (chunnel exit) it should take on a good day and with the wind behind you!!!! 3-4hrs!!
It's OK until you start getting near to Paris!!! There is NO Highway Code here as far as I see!!!!!
Nobody stops for people crossing the road and all the cars had dents in the side!!!!!! very worrying!!!

I would advise you to study the route carefully before you go especially around Paris. It's supposed to be a straight run!!! but it's easy to take a wrong road!!!!

All those people at the Dec. Meet are now screaming "ONLY FOR WHITEQUEEN!!" 'coz I got hopelessly lost outside WDW!!!!!

So you have to start early in the morning from UK 'coz you lose an hour from here to there!

yep we have been on 2 in 98 and 2000 they're great and if you go at the right time of year, cheap too. It's the kind of deal that you could just stay by the pool and bbq everynight so you wouldn't need much spending money. i would say it could cost you as little as a third of what disney does! We don't do eurocamp we do 'canvas' they are the same sort of thing but cheaper.

Yes DC, it's not far! It's really expensive though!!

If you don't get Eurostar in with a package it costs between £120-£180 per Adult!! If I was travelling within UK I wouldn't pay that much to go on a Train for 3hrs ANYWHERE!!!!

Dawn
January 30th, 2003, 13:32
You wouldn't get me on a train in the UK for 3 hours at any cost!!

Is it really just 3 hours from London to DLP? Hmmmm, I may have to give that some thought.

Dawn I am thinking the same thing after seeing the news yesterday! They actually fixed a track with a bit of wood and some crooked nails, and the worn out thing isn't even flush with the metal part. It is just a horrible horrible thing to think that human lives are treated this casually.

No way can anyone convince me that this is actually safe!

Well....I'm trying to figure out how much it costs to stay at the Disneyland Hotel....

But, first unpleasant surprise--DS-14 is an adult for hotel purposes! (I keep forgetting that it is different in Europe--most hotels here in the US, 18 or under gets to stay for free)

I'm trying to figure out if it would be cost effective to buy 1 AP for all the benefits.

Oh, and I can't figure out the dates....

But, I am having fun looking at the sites!

thats strange.....most u18's stay for free in hotels here in the uk......maybe its just DLParis......dont stay at Camp Davey crocket as there are no buses to the DLparis Resort....its a 20 min drive up the motorway......its a shame becuase it has the best pool

I agree with you DC. It's nowhere near as easy to work out as WDW!!

A lot of people here go through agents I think, 'coz it's way to much for 1 brain to work out!!!!!! :hehe:

There are a lot of coach/bus tours going there, but that would mean forcing people to sit near my 'fidgety' kidlets!! so I don't consider that although it is cheaper for us.

I would love to afford 'Disneyland Hotel'!! You literally walk out of the lobby into the Park at the beginning of MainStreet! :D

redkop,

most u18's stay for free in hotels here in the uk.

That's good info to know! I thought that was the way it was in the UK, too. When I was trying to work out a package through British Airlines a couple of years ago, they charged full price for DS (who had just turned 12) for the room portion of the package. It was cheaper to just book the air and then make my own room ressies.... (but, I am drifting from the topic :) )....

whitequeen

I am filling in this form that is for room only. I get to the page where you fill in the number of adults and pick a hotel. There is a field that says packages (obviously, since it is room only, it is blank)....anyway, when I hit the <continue> button, it gives me an error saying, "select package" (hee hee hee!).

I probably can't afford to stay there, either....(Gosh, I probably can't even afford to get there in the first place! :) ). But, I do have DVC points which I can use. But, if there is a sale on the room, I wouldn't want to use my points (oh my goodness--I think I am talking myself into going!).....

I am also wondering how far in advance do people book their rooms. Is it a year in advance, sometimes.

You can sometimes get '3nights for price of 2' packages (and longer)
This is what I meant when I said it was much more difficult than WDW!!!!

It doesn't just say 'it costs this much for 1 night' it's so confusing!!!

OK! DLP Booking confirmed just now.

7 of us! (3 Adults 4children) 2 rooms Hotel Santa Fe with Park Passes and Eurotunnel! Couldn't get on the Eurostar! Completely booked all day!!!!!
And this is where I think it's expensive!! :( 2nights/3days, kids are supposed to go free. £684/$1081 and I have to drive myself!!!!!!!!!!

DW treated me to a weekend at DLP before Xmas and it was great fun, but so cccccold!

We also went by Eurostar and changed for the TGV at Lille. On the way back we had two hours to kill (Lille station really isn't much fun for two cold hours in December), but to out surprise and delight there is a humungous shopping centre adjacent to the station. Well worth checking out!

Oh yes, when I saw how much DW had spent on the trip I was gobsmacked! Not far short of a grand!

The drive is quite nice. I enjoyed it and did it twice last year. I found it better though staying over in Dover the night before and catching the earlier ferry (5am) and getting over to Calais for 7:30amish.

One thing I loved about the drive, had to be the way in which the roads are so cool to drive on. Really got to test out my car, which made the trip from Calais to Disneyland Paris a little bit nicer.

I found the buses from within the Hotel Quarters, very good, coming once every 15 minutes or so.

Should be interesting going by coach on the 14th of March with KeithOP, as it will probably make us extremely tired, but what the heck, it is a trip to Disneyland Paris. Yippeeeeee!
