I feel like an idiot, but what are magical moment pins?

They are $15 pins that come in four different designs. As you travel around WDW the pin will light up and flash during certain points in an attraction or show. It is supposed to let you know when a magical moment is happening. My kids go them our first trip during the celebration of 100 years and they thought they were pretty neat and they got excited everytime they lighted up. The funny thing is that everytime our waitress in 50's Prime Time Cafe walked by our table, one of my daughters pins started flashing. The waitress didn't think she had anything on her that would cause that and my other daughter's pins did not light up. It was kind of funny.

Hi Ann,
Mrs. Tom did a great job of explaining the pins (that really IS strange about your daughters pin) so I won't really add much to that except to say that the MM pins are quite a bit larger than regular pins, (hence the higher price). The main thing I wanted to say is please don't ever feel like an "idiot" for asking a question...That is what this forum is all about...sharing information. Ask away and have fun!!!:D :D

I realize that there are 4 different designs--do they all work throughout the parks---or only in their designated park? Guess I'm trying to find out if we just need to buy one $15.00 pin....or if I need to face the fact that we will be buying 4 of them. This Disney planning is complicated stuff!

With Magical expectations,
Laurie

They all work throughout all the parks. Save the battery tab and reinsert it at night (quite a trick!) since the batteries wear out quick.

you're all knowing and all seeing---just scared myself---I best stay on your good side!! You're like the resident Disney Diva! I bow to your infinite Disney wisdom.

Just to add to this.... I had all the old ones... but this time when we went, there seemed to be new magical moments pins out!

I didn't remember to grab one sadly :( but reading the packet, they said you could play games on them (not sure how !) and what seemed REALLY cool sounding is that it said "NEW! now react to other guests pins" or words to that effect.... so it sounds as though if you walk past someone and they're wearing a similar pin, they'll both light up or something.

(although as I type this, I cant imagine I've got it right.. surely they can't include a transmitter in each pin. Perhaps I'm going mad and dreamt it all... or perhaps someone can look in world of disney where I saw them and see if it says anything like that <G>)

From wdisneyw.com:

From the instruction manual:

"The new Disney's Magical Moments Pins feature two ways to join in the Magic. By moving the switch on the back of the Pin to 'Park' mode, you can experience the many Magical Moments in the Walt Disney WorldŽ Resort theme parks. The Pin will magically display special light sequences during many shows, attractions, and parades. "Once you leave the theme parks, the fun continues when you move the switch into 'Game' mode. Now you can choose to play one of 4 new games by yourself or with your friends."

The pins have four colored buttons on the bottom which serve as game selectors and to play the games. One of the games is basically another version of laser tag in which you use the "send" button on the back of the pin to pake others' pins light up one color at a time. When they get three hits, they're out. Another game is a take on memory, in which you have to press the buttons on the bottom in the sequence that the pin displays them.
