We're about to do it!

We are just about to become DVC Members. We just returned last weekend from WDW and felt we want to return often, maybe every year. It's been 2 in a row so far. We wife has been wanting to buy an RV for vacationing, but the presentation helped her decide towards a DVC membership. (Great news for me, who wants to go camping when you can go to WDW?)

We looked into Timeshares last year, but we didn't want to go to another high pressure sales presentation like we did 7 years ago. The salesman actually cried because we weren't buying, which we told him from the beginning we just came in for the free Universal Tickets.

This presentation was totally different. Our Vacation Club Guide just showed us the plan, gave us a tour of the rooms and let us ask away questions. She gave us material and sent us on our way. No pressure at all. Of course we all know just being at Disney is enough pressure to make you want to return year after year. We came back and are getting things together to commit. If anyone is just a bit interested the current offers are outstanding and we couldn't have joined without them, but now it will work into our budget.

Enough rambling, just wanted to share our excitement. Our biggest decision right now is to go with 150 points to start or with 170 points. We are leaning towards the 150, they are enough for us now and fit into our budget better.

Are you able to say what offers are so good at the moment?

We liked the presentation too but just couldn't quite decide.. but a really good offer could seal it.

It is best to have a Vacation Guide explain it to you. They are offering a $1,500 credit towards the cost which you can apply to your downpayment. It is a buy back of your first years points at $10 a point. Our first year dated back to late 2002, so in late 2003 our new points are active. (Fine with us, we just got back from WDW) You still have to have 10% to put down. Really what the deal comes out to be is the points are $74 a point and not $84 a point. That is like resale pricing. Even their website shows the $1500 promotion, so you should be able to call and ask about it.

Dondew, Welcome Home! Congratulations on joining the DVC! You are absolutely going to love it. I'm so glad the buy back promotion enabled you to purchase now. If the 150 points works best for you then go with it, but please know that the most frequent complaint about DVC is that enough points weren't purchased at the outset and that the purchaser waited too long to join! The point prices seem to only go up in cost, so if you can squeeze 170 into your budget you may want to. Trust me, you won't waste those points!

I also believe the more points, the better. On one hand, you can always add points on every year--but on the other hand if you just add a few points, you can't take advantage of the incentives.... And, of course, the sooner you add those points on, the sooner you can use them!

Dondew, I'm so happy for you! I've pretty much made up my mind that we need to do DVC, but now DH (the instigator) is backing off.

I'm in the 'buy more points now" camp, too. With 3-year banking, whose to say you won't want to do a grand vaca in a year or two, or a cruise, or split and do two vacations, or pull a DC and park-hop across the globe?

Congrats! WE just joined in June of '02 at the BEach Club. I'm presuming that is where you bought into also. Great home resort to have! We were only going to get 200 points but went up to 220. Right now we have more than we need but we also go once a year during value season. Once we have to start going during the summer I know we will probably want/need more. I'm not worrying about that right now as I know I can add on later (at least I GUESS I can). It's all new to me too still. Anyway, get whatever you can to get you into it. I don't think you'll regret it!:ears:

One thing I wish they did though... at the viewing, they had a hard back book that I think you get when you join which really described everything in it.

There was no way we were going to get one of those books ;( I asked, and instead we got a few details but for me not quite enough.

I'm a detail junky, I'd have liked to have read through that big book before joining.

Big Thunder, yes you can add on to your points at any time. The only thing you'll want to watch for is to be careful about use year. It's much more preferable to have all your points in the same use year.

Keith, did you ask them to send you the video and all printed materials?

We didnt' get a hardback book but got a softcover that was packed with details. It does help to have all the info you can. When friends of mine called for details in 1999 they got a hardback book in the mail! It was really nice. I collect WDW books so they gave it to me. I guess the days of hardbacks are gone. I haven't even gotten a book for '03. Is it all online now?

They gave us a plastic bag full of stuff, books, video etc!!
