for those of you who visit both places, which resorts do you like better? I'm not talking for the theme parks or the gambling, but the actual hotels as resorts?
I'm going to Vegas in about a month, and to me, it seems the only other place on earth where you have so many amazing resorts packed together.

jdwright13,
Disney....
We last visited Vegas (2 years ago). Vegas has made lots of improvements over the years. But the reason we prefer Disney over Las Vegas:
Some examples, In Las Vegas, they have no-smoking rooms, but heavy smoking everywhere else--in the halls, in the elevators, in the restrooms, restuarants, outside the non-smoking rooms.
Vegas is really pay as you go, tip everybody and everything that moves.
I don't know what type of entertainment you might be looking for--Vegas touts itself as a family friendly environment these days and I can say it is more so than it used to be, but there are still lots of entertainment options that are advertised which are not really family friendly and could result in lots of questions from your kids.
In Vegas, you are being monitored by video cameras just about where ever you go. If you make a purchase using a credit card, you have to show ID (I think that is what contributes to the creepy "somebody is watching" feeling that I got :) ) .
Even though, you have to walk through the casinos to get from your room, to the restaurant or to the garage or the ATM machine for example, kids are admonished to move along by security guards if they dawdle in the least.
Just my perception, of course, but I feel like Disney is a much more relaxed atmosphere. Would we go back to Vegas? Sure, but, the two places definately have a different feel to them.

Vegas is very nice and exciting, but you do not get the same feeling as being at a Disney Resort. I prefer Disney. When you are at a Disney property you feel a certain magic like you are actually is another world, but when you are in Vegas you feel the urge to spend money and see the lights. The hotels at both locations have themes, but the atmosphere is just a little bit different. Both have great hotels and you would be able to enjoy yourself at both locations, but of course different activities at each. Have a good time and hit a JACKPOT and then go to Disney. ;)
In Vegas stayed at the Mirage, Ceasars, Golden Nugget, Excalibur, Flamingo Hilton and Imperial Palace.

We were just in Vegas the beginning of April. We stayed at the MGM. It was really huge!! TOO HUGE. It took us about 10 minutes brisk walking to get to the elevators to our room. We also have stayed at the Flamingo. That is a really nice hotel. There are quite a few plush hotels. Such as Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay. Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

We've never been to Vegas. But I don't know how you'd compare them - WDW is "WDW" and Vegas is, well, Vegas! Given a choice between the two, well, for me there is NO choice! WDW any time!

what your missing. I'm staying at the Mirage for a week in June, and if you compare it to the AKL, instead of Zebra and Giraffes, you get Lions, White Tigers, Elaphants, and a huge dolphin pool. In addition, 10 restuarants, 5 bars, lives bands, 2 great shows, and a tram away from a Cirque de Solie show. Not to mention, a couple of blocks away, an Eifel Tower (sp?), a hotel with mini-replica of Venice with canals and gondolas (sp?), a Pyramid, 100 story towers, Pirate Battles where they sink a ship (not boat, ship) every hour, etc...
When somebody spends a one and a half billion dollars building a resort, it rivals even Disney.
Tiggerbelle, your right though, no place has that magic and instant happy feeling you get just stepping foot on Disney property. Everytime I've been there, I feel instantly content. There is no place quite like Disney.
I'm just happy this year I get to do both, thanks to the fairytale package, I get a week at the AKL in Sept! Every year, it's probably my toughest choice, which one to go to. If the Vegas resorts weren't always offering me free rooms, food, and booze, it wouldn't be as tough of a choice.

Both are special in their own ways.... and I wouldn't have missed either.
Disney is fantasticly disney all nice and fluffy..... vegas is the opposite ;-) and that can be fun too.
I never have any problems thinking what to do at disney.... at vegas in daytime.... well must admit, it's a case of what to do till the evening (for me).
I love the shows.. some of the very best shows anywhere.
Casinos all seem to have no lose guarantees which is a fun way to spend 100 dollars (without spending it.. if you lose it, they give it back).
just going round the hotels themselves is worth doing.
Really its very difficult to say one is better than the other it depends on how you feel at the time you're asked, do you have children, do you want an AWWWWWWW or an OOOOOOOOOOO etc ;-)
Just enjoy both if you get the chance ;-)

We stayed at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas and I would highly recommend it when bringing kids. You don't go through the casino to get the elevator and the wave pool, river and beach are lots of fun!

Um, Disney has one of the largest video networks for security and watching us all the time and I have never used a credit card at disney without being asked for ID (makes me feel MUCH better knowing they want to be sure I'm me and I'm the one who is supposed to be using the card)

My husband and I visit Las Vegas every year as well as WDW every year and I prefer WDW resorts over Vegas Hotels any day. Though there is terrific theming at the Vegas hotels (we have stayed at Mirage, Venetian, Bellagio, Bally's and Mandalay Bay) they are still mainly hotels and let's face it, it's mostly about gambling. The first time I went to Vegas it was a big deal because we went to see everything, but now it has become old hat and is mainly a gambling trip for my husband. I'll take WDW anyday over Vegas.

We visit Vegas a several times a year (job related stuff mostly) and I agree with what everyone has said. Disney is Magic for me. In my experience, the resort amenities in Disney are better and the cast members are friendlier and more service oriented.
As far as shows and special events, Vegas beats Disney though. I mean, where else can you go and see a world championship title fight and a U2 concert on the same weekend? If your children are older, the Penn and Teller Magic show is really fun. And even if you don't care for her music, Celine Dion's show is incredibly beautiful - almost like a Cirque Du Soleil feel to it. Mandalay Bay has a gorgeous pool area and I think its the best resort in Vegas for children.
For our family, Vegas is over the top extravagant and wildly exciting. Disney is just plain magical. And of the two, I will take Disney every chance I get!
