Before we left for our trip, I had called Member Services (MS) to see how to get one of those coupons for a free one day trial rental of Pal Mickey that I had heard some DVC members had received. I explained that I was staying at the Contemporary on a cash ressie. MS advised me that each resort had the coupons and I was supposed to ask for it upon Check-in.
I had no trouble getting my coupon when I checked in. When I went to redeem the coupon at the store in the Contemp., The CM told me it was only good for a rental, not for a purchase. I asked her what if I rented it for one day (using a coupon) and then later that same day, I decided to buy it, would it still cost $50.00? The CM became very confused at that point and said she would have to ask her manager (who wouldn't arrive for another 3 hours). I thanked her for her time and we went over to VWL where we figured they would be more familiar with the DVC coupons. This turned out to be a good decision. The CM there also had to ask a manager, but when she came back, she said, "Yes!" So, I was able to get my Pal Mickey for $41.50.
I figure at OKW, it would probably be less trouble putting the coupon towards buying a PM since they have probably processed lots of those coupons (and they have had PM longer than any of the stores).
Be sure to read the directions. PM has an on/off switch in the back which must be in the "on" position before you enter the parks. Also, PM doesn't automatically start talking as you walk about the parks, he first shakes and says, "Uh-AH!" At that point, you have to squeeze his left hand before he will give you the information.
I had trouble hearing PM, but if I put him close to my ear I could hear him fine.
