I have read so much about swimming with the manatees that I would like to book a swim. I am sure reading around these boards the name "Crystal River" mentioned in association with manatees. Does anyone know of a website, or how to book a swim? Also, how much does a trip cost approx (2 people)?

Thanks!

We did this with a dive shop in Crystal River called 'American Pro Dive' this past January. It was great!

I posted a bit about it here (http://www.wdisneyw.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15057)

We stayed at some riverfront cabins they recommended, and they were ok,, forgot the name,, but I think it's on their website.

One thing tho, manatees go there mostly in the winter,, before you book,, ask if they are about at the time you go.

If you don't want to dive it's still worth going to Homosassa Springs at Crystal River for a trip. There's all sorts of things (a hippo who is an official Florida resident and a two headed turtle) plus lots of manatees and an underwater viewing area. It's a good half day. I 'adopted' a manatee there for DH's birthday.

Hi Fairy Nuff, I tried the link on the thread before and it didn't work for me.

I will be going at the beginning of October, will many manatees be around at that time?

lol,, it is a link to a thread on here,, it works for me :) the site of the place we used is http://www.americanprodive.com/ I think it's about $50.00 total per person,, that includes wetsuit and snorkle equipment. The video you watch before going out is required, so it's also included. They will video the encounter for you, and you can buy the video if you want to, we did,,lol.

I think there are some manatees around all year long,, but they are very concentrated in the winter months.

Once you have a manatee roll over so you can rub it's belly, you will be hooked,,lol
