We went to US last August and they were just about to close the King Kong ride, VB has just asked what has replaced this.

I suspect nothing yet but does anyone know what is planned and when?

Apparently is a coaster ride based on the Mummy Returns movie.

Hi Dawn

Do you have any idea when the Munny ride will be open?

Sorry no. They haven't even started work on it yet so I'd guess 2004 at the earliest.

If you mean the Kong ride at Universal, it was closed when I was there in June and construction had already started on The Mummy. I think the opening date is 2004.

I wanted it to be open too, the first time we went it was having work done, the second time we didn't get to Universal so this time in September we wanted to go on it! However I had a look on their website and it doesn't seem to be featured so I guess it is shut :(

I loved his banana breath :hehe: ...and the way the line made you feel like you were in a city. aww me and my family wanted to go on it. Being from NYC, we tend to like poking fun at rides in Orlando that try to theme like New York, its rather funny :) Tho i do say they do an awesome job in MGM. Anyway, did wanna see the big KK but i guess if you look on the bright side, it leaves you that much more time in your day to see something else!

Nothing is as bad as the el. Unless you count the Broad street subway.

I guess maybe your right, but because I don't live there anymore I'm sure I'm remembering it through rose colored glasses! We always tell our children that we have got to one day take a ride on the el just so they can experience it. :hehe:

Not happy at all!
My DH and I were just talking about it yesterday with ou DDs, saying how much we enjoyed KK.

My parents are coming with us next year and we told them all about it.

So now there are even more unhappy people

Just hope Mummy returns is as good!!

Hey all! Just thought I'd add some more to this thread -

Unfortunately, yes, King Kong is closed, and has been for some time now. Personally, I really liked this attraction and was sad to see it go - but I'm looking forward to the Mummy-theme replacement.

One thing to mention, however - when they were shutting down King Kong, they had a HUGE event on the last day the ride was open - I don't know the details because I had to work that day and couldn't make it, but it was a large 'farewell' party in Kong's honor. Very, very good to see! I wish Diz would have done something like this for Horizons... Mr. Toad... World of Motion... Communicore... etc. etc......
