The Desert Inn and Suites is a pretty good property and relatively speaking, they have some really good rates. It is located right across the street from DL/CA Adventure and is very convenient (comfortable walking distance) to both of the parks.
I have stayed at property (Park Place Best Western) almost right next to DIAS, too. It is even closer to the parks (by a few hundred feet) but when we stayed there we were not very impressed with it. (Ex, we given keys to a room that someone had already checked into and a couple of maintanence issues. This was several years ago, so they may have cleaned up their act since we stayed there.)
I wouldn't totally discount the Disney Hotels--from time to time, they have some fabulous rates--so, it doesn't hurt to check out mousesavers.
And, there are tons of hotels in the DL area...

The Howard Johnson across the way from DLR is a fabulous place to stay...now when you talk about cheap how cheap are you looking for??
