What rides have broken down while you were on them? What was the experience like? I've been on Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Universe of Energy when they broke down. I really enjoyed seeing SM and HM with the lights on, but it did take away some of the "magic". Which is your favorite ride break-down?

The first two that come to mind are COP and Mission Space. Oh, and Test Track, but who hasn't had that one break down! Space Ship Earth was another. Favorite? Can say as I enjoyed any of them. Oh, wait. I was on Body Wars when it broke down and was given the option to get off or start the ride over. With great relief I got off. That would have been my favorite! :D

I was on the Star Wars ride last year, it didn't technically breakdown but we had the whole ride in silence, quite amusing making our own noises to the ride, but we were allowed to go to the front of the queue and ride again, so wasnt all bad.

After an extremely long day at Six Flags Magic Mountain we went on "one last ride" on one of the older coasters. The ride stopped a few feet from the platform at the end of the ride and we were stuck for 20 minutes.

We've had the usual stop mid flow in Spaceship Earth for something like 15 minutes.

I've now been on Test Track some 3 times when it's broken down, the first time being while we were stuck in the 'cold zone' not funny I can tell you! The last time was just over a week ago - and it was our car that broke down! Oops! Thankfully, we weren't too far into the ride, so the walk down wasn't too long.

Think my biggest fear would be breaking down half way through a rollercoaster - upside down or very high up!

Renae do you remember which one it was?

Umm Ive been on POTC AND IASW when they have broken down..and let me tell you that BOTH of them have VERY annoying repetitive song when you hear them sitting in one spot for 25 minutes...about 5 minutes BEFORE the ride started again on POTC they turned the music off..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

When we broke down in HM we were in the graveyard, by the grim grinning ghosts(who sang for a long time), with the lights on. Finally CMs came and let us out of the doombuggies and we walked out of the ride.
On Splash Mt. we had already come down the drop (thank goodness) and had to wait for the cast members to assist us out of the boats and then went out through the back of the ride. In Space Mt. we were just about to get in a rocket when it quit. I had always wanted to see it with the lights on, but I wish we had been able to ride. They waited about 20 minutes trying to get it back up and then made everyone leave. Universe of Energy was pretty funny as a CM with a microphone tried to explain what should have been happening, but wasn't. Please note that each of these breakdowns was on a different trip, but all within a year.

Hi

We were stuck on Pirates of the Carribbean for 20 mins....

A CM in waders had to walk around and push the boats to the exits...we then had to go out via an emergency exit, and then a 4 day camel ride back round into the park:D :D

20 looooong minutes of yo ho yo ho....and do you know not one of those pirates offered us a drink!!!!

Thay all just stood/sat there SINGING...can you believe it!!

They didnt even say hello, just kept right on singing...and I thought WDW was supposed to be friendly.

Must go...my medication has worn off!!!

Great Movie Ride once
Spaceship Earth once
Test Track once

And NEVER ONCE did I get to walk off a ride...

September 24th, 2003, 00:43
We've never walked off rides before, but here's mine...

Spaceship Earth many many many times - the worst - waiting 15+ minutes stuck by the fall of Rome... gag!! The smell they use is fine for about a minute, then it gags ya :P

HM - in the graveyard for about 10 min. watching the singing heads and you can tell when the video starts again

Test Track - 'nuff said!

Monorail - waited up there many a summer storm just sitting out there like please God strike us with lightning or something!

I'm sure theres more but I can't remember!!

IASW for almost a half an hour and this is why DD not only hates the song but refuses to ride it ever again. We got stuck on space mountain and it was kind of cool because they turned the lights on and you could see the double tracks. That's when I realized that as coasters go, this one is actually pretty tame.

Buzz broke down while we were on it this summer - stop, go, stop, go, stop, go. I did manage to run up a really high score though.

I've never broken down on Test Track. I'll rephrase that - Test Track has never broken down while I've been riding it.

Universe of Energy before Ellen arrived. We broke down in the middle of the dinosaurs. The CMs came and let us out of the vehicles then let us take photos before leading us out through the dinosaurs past the poor guests whose vehicle worked all the way round. :D

Have been on Splash Mountain and Jaws when they broke down. Jaws was hilarious because all the sharks popped up at once - took the element of surprise away for those first timers!

I certainly hope that I am never stuck on IASW. I would swim out unassisted!

the ride i remember the most was the pirates of the carribean. we were probably sitting there for a good 15 minutes. the only thing you could hear was the clicking of the pirates movements ( if i remember correctly ) it got really boring just sitting there in the same place for 15 minutes not being able to hear anything but the clicking.

I was on the HM once when it broke down and I was in a buggy all by myself. I entered the graveyard and then the buggy stopped and then it all went black. Not a bit of light or sound. Its funny now, but you didn't hear a peep out of everyone. I don't scare easily but I kept my eyes closed (even though it was already dark) until the lights came back on.

I was also on Big Thunder and we were going up the big incline before the mountain goats and it stopped. Finally a girl came up and let us out of the cars and we got to walk down the steps and go through the mountain. They asked us not to take pictures and I was naught, (not to mention several others) but when I got them developed none of them turned out???? Spooky!

Basically everything I've been on has brokend down but I didn't have to get off of those.

I hadn't really thought of it but quite a few rides have broken down when we have been on them.

Test track - Just after the hot/cold zone fortunately

Jungle cruise - Had to wait ages before being towed back to the start.:p

Space mountain - Right at the very top, had to wait about ten minutes after they put all the lights on,quite scary that one

Spaceship Earth - On the big descent at the end.

Alien Encounter - Just as the creature broke out of the big tube, we were treated to the sight of a large monster slumped out of the tube, quite funny really:D

I have nightmares about being stuck in IASW, i really think that could push a sane person over the edge into insanity:confused:

George.

Have mostly been lucky at WDW can't remember specific problems, but at Universal IOA we had the Dr Suess ride fail and we went round again, Spider man broke down and I gave up, and on jurassic park we were in a boat just about to go down the water drop when it stopped for 20 mins and so we waited sitting looking at the T Rex in an earie half light thinking it was moving.

80 days to go.

Lets see COP we got stuck without it turning. We heard the same scene 5 times in a row and part of a 6th. By time they got us out we we're all mocking the show. It was fun. Space Mountian Isaw with the lights on....no biggie.....CB it started and then it shut off right away....Horizens .....I caused that one. My foot stopped teh door from closing and the safety switch tripped the ride. An oh yeah the Monorailgot stuck just past the MK platform and we had to sit there for 35 minutes during a terrible thunderstorm. The vehicle was swaying all over from the wind gusts.

Spiderman at IOA.
At one point in the ride, there's a drip (not sure if it's meant to be there), and where was I stuck? Under the drip
They eventually came and rescued us. Walking through the ride was pretty cool, and everyone got a free pass to get straight back on once it had been restarted.

We've had a few rides stop for about 5 mins and then carry on but I've never had to actually get off or be assisted as some of you have described.

The worst 'stop' we had was on Splash Mountain - we'd gone all the way round and had got virtually to the top of the last big climb - looking up and out of the 'door' at the sky - and everything ground to a halt....we just sat there for what seemed like ages (i reality probably about 5 mins) knowing that as soon as we started off again we'd go over the precipice!!!!

To be honest I've never managed to get DH on it again since...I've been too chicken to go on by myself, but I might give it a go again next trip!!!

Never had to walk off a ride but have stopped for a while on Haunted mansion, Priates of the Caribbean and Spaceship Earth. Splash Mountain once stopped for a while and then restarted - unfortunately the timing of effects was out - so the water jets that normally just miss the boat hit us right in the face!

We have stopped countless times in the HM; Spaceship Earth wouldnt be the same if it didnt have at least one breakdown every time we got on; in Universal we went round Spiderman for the first time with lots of shaking of the car, some water but no film running (i kept thinking how boring is this - until someone said oh no the films not working).
The worst one for me was good old Test Track. On our 5th/6th ride round approaching that 65mph thing, all hands to the sky and screaming with joy - suddenly there was a lurching and a terrible smell of buring rubber. Honestly, we looked just like the advertising hoarding on the road from the airport. I really got quite scared as I thought the car was about to catch on fire and the seatbelts are all locked. Luckily, a young man came running out (apparantly they had 'seen my distress' on their tv) and they unlocked us and we went down some stairs into the back area of Test Track. I did feel stupid though after the event - which my children have NEVER made me forget!!! But we did get a free unlimited no wait ticket for the rest of the day. Erm, perhaps they should offer this to any unlucky soul who broke down on IASW!!!!!!!!! NOT!!

We were once stuck on the something transport the one that goes aound above the crowd (at Magic Kingdom ) and goes thru Space Mountain. It was stuck for about 20 minutes. We were in the dark tunnel. Then is started back up and then were stck by Space Mountain. It was weird because all the lights were on inside of SM and we could see all the twists turns metal bars etc.
I can never remember the name of that ride. Who knows the name??? It will save me from looking it up.

It was the Skyway. My first WDW ride.

rockyroad08

It used to be called the WEDway People Mover, now it is called the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, or TTA. The skyride has been gone for a really long time.

I have another breakdown to add to my list. In 1977, my husband and I were riding the Swan Boat and it ran into a big post in Adventure Land and broke it off. That was so long ago I almost forgot!

Escaped any problems at WDW but Spiderman broke down three times at IOA. The first time it just stopped before we even started. The second it stopped it the middle, and the third it kept on going but no film and sound. That was a different sort of a ride.

Ripshaw falls broke down twice but luckily before we got on.
Kracken at Seaworld came to a halt as I watched my husband and brother in law on it. Just as it was going up the slope. I felt nervous for them. It had been stopped because someone hadn't got their seatbelt on properly, although we didn't know that at the time. They admired the views for about 15 mins.

I was on Space Mountain once when all of the lights came on. My first thought was "I hope a piece of track in front of me is not missing". After that it was neat to see how sqeezed in the ride is. You could practically reach out and touch the track next to you.

So far, so good at WDW. Since I've only been there three times, that isn't unexpected.

I'll take that back. The railroad at MK had a synchronization problem last December, and they kept stopping the train, trying to get everything together.

However, Disneyland is another story, but since I grew up there and spend a lot of time there the first 25 years of my life, that isn't too surprising! We went to Disneyland the way OKWTink goes to EPCOT--nearly every week! They used to have a General Admission ticket for $2 (that was when you purchased admission/ride ticket books--no passes), and since we had a lot of left-over tickets from other visits (mostly A & B tickets, with a few C's and and occasional D. The E tickets always went fast!), we were able to use them and go on "throw away" rides (not really, but usually not our favorites) and just relax for a few hours.

Okay, breakdowns at Disneyland: POTC, IASW, Skyway, Jungle Cruise, HM. There were more breakdowns at POTC and IASW, probably because they are more complex attractions, even that was probably 3 or 4 times each during 10 years, and once for each of the others (Skyway and Jungle Cruise were original rides at Disneyland when it opened--or soon afterwards). We were rescued from POTC once, but the others were 30 minutes or less. Just annoying.

Overall, Disney has a pretty good track record for reliability and safety, although nothing will protect people from doing stupid things and suffering the consequences!

I"ve mentioned this in another thread, but when I was a CM in Fantasyland, I was working at IASW at closing. Me and another CM got in a boat to do the ride through, and the person at dispatch must have forgotten about us or something. We had just gotten into the finale scene, when we noticed that all the boats were backed up. Then we realized that the flume had shut off! Then, as was normal closing procedure, the music was turned off. Thankfully, the lights stay on for the 3rd shift. So there we were, surrounded by the dolls :afraid: :afraid: , who were still all moving, by the way. Um, :help: please! Well, we had to climb through the boats, almost falling in the water several times, since the boats were floating around quite a bit, until we finally got out.

Another time I was working at SW, it broke down, and me and another CM put on waders, got in the water, and pulled boats to an exit point. That was exhausting, and the people in the boats kept taking pictures of us! :Photo:

I've gotten stuck on many things, I've had to walk out of Malestrom, and Big Thunder. But nothing too exciting.

Hope you never get stuck on Peter Pan. Because of the boats being up in the air, the fire department has to be called to evacuate. You could be up there for a long time! :worried:

Yep Jurassic Park....correct on the quote...it just seemed to fit....As for the mesages about the HM breaking down .....alot of the stops are for people that have trouble getting on the or off the ride......I have a question for those stuck on the IASW ride.....How on earth did you get stuck on a free flowing water driven ride.....and with that kind of luck in mind make sure I don't get on the same vehicle with you in the future....becuase I don't want to be jinxed dropping on something like TOT  :D

We've never been on any of the "scary" rides when they have broken down *PHEW* (although Space Mountain with the lights on sounds fun - it'd be good to see how it's all fitted in together!)

However Spaceship Earth broke down for about 15 mins or so, one evening last trip.

Also Carosel Of Progress boken down between scences for about 20 mins in the middle of a very hot day, so we didn't mind sitting in the air conditioning for a while!

I was stuck on Splash Mountain at about Midnight (E-ride Nights), about mid-way through the final climb before the big drop, so the anticipation was pretty cool.

Unfortunately, Test Track seems to wait for me to ride it to break down. At least 5 different times that I have been on the ride it has broken down, three times at the hill climb section, once not far from the entrance, and once in the tunnel with the truck...

Pirates also broke down right under the bridge with the guy's legs hanging off, so me and my family got to pretty much learn the entire song. However, as they took us off the attraction, I broke my big toe walking up the stone steps (try never to wear sandals to the Magic Kingdom).

But, my favorite would have to be Rockin' RollerCoaster. It broke down right at the first light section (before you get shot off). It was my first time riding it, so the anticipation waiting for the light to turn green made the ride itself ten times better.

Spaceship Earth broke down the last time we went. We were stuck on the big descent where you see Earth in space. But i was unlucky enough to be sitting right in front of the speaker with the recording of the woman saying "please remain seated, the ride willbe moving momentarily". We sat there for about 15-20 minutes, and my mom was cracking up because i had my hands over my ears, going insane because of the recording!

And a non-orlando one... In Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ... I JUST got off Medusa (this huge, steel roller coaster that does a billion flips) and then they said it broke dow nand everyone had to leave. My friends and i were like "oh my god we could have DIED!"

On our Mother's Day trip, we hopped into the single riders line and waited and waited and waited! Something was wrong with the ride. As we waited that darned "music" about drove us nuts! Clanking and banging! We finally gave up and left! We couldn't take it any longer.

I have been on Pirates of the Carribean, Test Track, Great Movie Ride and Rock and Roller coaster. On Pirates they had us get out of the boats and walk through the side exit to the front. On test track it has broken down a few times but on that i remember was right after the hot and cold and we had to get off and walk around but they did give us a ticket to come back later. The great movie ride stopped right before the Wizard of Oz nd we had to get off and walk through so I got to walk on the yello brick road =]. And on rock and roller coaster i brokedown after we were seated but before we took off so we were unsure when it was actually gonna shoot off but it was fun!

It seemed that ever ride we were in line for or getting ready to ride broke down.day one at MK we were in line for space mountain and it broke down, on splash mountain and it broke down. at Epcot that same day we were in the line for mission space and it broke down. at mgm we get there for early entry and rockin roller coaster is broken down, we get ready to go to tower of terror and see that on the board it is "temorarily closed" aka broken down and then fantasmic was cancelled.. well that was because of the weather but still. nothing broke down at AK though..

Gee, I didn't know so many people had been on POTC when it broke down. Add me to the list of names. POTC wasn't the only ride I was on that broke down though, I was on COP too. POTC broke down near the end. It just suddenly stopped and then went, stopped then went until it got to the end where you are let off. In COP it was at the last scene and it had ended when the recording came on and said that they were experiencing technical difficulties and reminded us not to take pictures and stuff and stay in our seats. So we sat through the last scene again and at some point the recording came on again. Then after what seemed like forever the ride started again, went to where the ride started out, the closing comments were said and we left. Seeing the last scene twice was not what I wanted to do, but what can you do.

It ended up being great though because a cast member came and got us and we got to go down through the inside of the mountain---got to see all the computers, controls, etc. it takes to run the ride. Very impressive! :)

I have some good breakdown stories...

In April we were on Splash Mountain and the ride was almost over when we suddenly crashed into the log ahead of us and there was well, a log pileup. People eventually came out to tell everyone that everything was okay and they just had to "reboot" the ride. Everything shut down and we could hear the staff talking over some kind of PA system and there was also a recorded voice telling everyone what was happening. The funny part was, (and sorry if this is crude) the voice kept saying, "I am now activating your logs...your logs will be begin moving momentarily...logs are in motion." Caused a lot of much needed laughter!

The Dinosaur ride also broke down in Animal Kingdom. It was so dark and scary during the ride, i had to hide my face in my husband's shoulder and then suddenly the car stopped and the lights came on and it looked like a poorly decorated halloween party.

Dinosaur is very scary in the dark... I think I would've laughed if I had seen it in the lights though

What rides have broken down while you were on them? What was the experience like? I've been on Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Universe of Energy when they broke down. I really enjoyed seeing SM and HM with the lights on, but it did take away some of the "magic". Which is your favorite ride break-down?

i think SM looks very boring with the lights on
not that i go on rides like that but we went on the TTA while SM was being refurbed and went through it .

i must have been very lucky
i have never been on a ride that broke down
i have been watching spectomagic parade when a float broke down and the men in suits came out and pushed it
also saw the Pocahontas show in MGM where she forgot to turn her microphone on for part of her first scene.

very tame compared to your events

I have a question.. when some of you say that Haunted Mansion broke down did it just stop for a few seconds? Because that happened when we were there at midnight and it was because they were loading a handicap person on.. it had nothing to do with the ride breaking

I was on IASW, when the sound cut out. All of those little puppets spinning, and dancing in almost complete silence. I thought it would give me nightmares for years! ;) But we all started singing the song, and laughing, and when we got off the ride, we were trying to tell them it was almost more fun singing the song ourselves. I even suggested a quick fix, which was to hand out sheet music with the words to the riders. They weren't amused.

We got stuck at the very end of Dinosaur last week. Right where the big one jumps out above you, and right as we were going over an incline. They had to turn the lights on inside and everything. My sister was watching Festival of the Lion King & it broke down right after it started they had to rush everyone out, (don't know why though).
