What rides/attractions/areas at WDW would you replace, and what would you replace them with?

Think some of the older rides are looking tired? Would you revamp or replace them?

No replacing. Adding. Replacing bad. Cleaning and updating possibly acceptable. Adding is good.

Having said that the Tomorrowland Speedway thingy always gets the cold shoulder from me. It's just smelly. Perhaps replace it with some electric car type thingy, or teensy weensy hovercraft things.

The speedway would be a good place to start. There are lots of possibilities for updating it. Treasure Planet theme, or a Stitch space theme.

Kids really love the oppurtunity to get behind the wheel but it does stink!

Hovercraft is a cool idea Dawn. Have it a hovercraft bumper cars, with the cars shaped as villians.

I was about to laugh but then again, the dolls are chasing me and if they hear me laugh, or yell at their extremly annoying song I get stuck in the TINY prison cell til they get tired of me or if I can escape.

I would turn Indy Speedway into a bumper car track so I could chase my dad in it and stick him in a Radcliffe shaped car!! Stitch would be fun for my brother. Any Disney characters as well. I would also increase the length of Test Track.

I think changing the Indy Speedway is a good idea,,, I've only ridden once but I didn't like it too much. I like being able to drive freely without being on a track(although you can't do that...) but something definately along the line of the hovercraft bumper cars shaped as Villains!!!! It'd be awesome to beat my friends in an Ursula bumper car!! muahaha.

You know what would be SO cool (and also impossible),,, having a ride with those rocket things at the end of Lilo and Stitch,,, the floating hovercrafts,,, a person can dream!

I think they can spice up Fantasyland a bit,,, it's a lot of fun but maybe something with a princess theme?? I WOULD LOVE THAT!! I mean,,, the kids,,, they'd love it,,, :noworthy:

 who's up for feeding some executives our ideas!!

SPEEDWAY ----GOOD IDEA LETS AXE IT and put in...... There were 2 good ideas why not put them together. The Lilo and Stitch thing and the Hovercraft. Enclose the track in a building and make it the island of Hawaii. Have stich drive you all over the islnad looking for his 625 cousins. You can have the hovercraft edging off cliffs and splashing into water dodging waterfalls and kicking up dust. On the back of the ride have a 2 gunners that can shot captian Gantar's ship trying to get him. If you miss him at points you spin out of control till stitch can steady you. You can even put the wheel up front so kids feel like there driving like stitch. On top of the vehicle up front have a TV screen that has stitch pop up and tell you little messages through the ride. Have a random generator so its different everytime. Same thing with the track have 3 different versions of the ride and 3 different tracks. Even better have Plinkly and Prof. Jamba drive the other 2 tracks of cars and you are all in a race to help rescue the 625 other experiments. Have the different ships (hovercrafts) and have them interact through out the ride (like near collisions). I morph ideas as I type.....Sorry.

PS down with the DOLLS (I agree)

Call me Patriotic .... I seriously believe the Mexico pavillion needs a MAJOR makeover...

They could start on the outside... by making the pyramid more appealing.. maybe painting it in brighter colours

Then... PLEASE!!!!! ..... in whats supposed to be the marketplace... a little bit more light, so you could actually see the colour of whatever you are buying... and more variety

And finally.. el RIO DEL TIEMPO!!!.. Im not saying get rid of it... but the films are from like 30 years ago... and the smell is simply aweful...

JMHO

The living seas.... specially the film.... but the whole place looks so old..... it is an amazing aquarium... but I feel like it doesnt look "modern" anymore... it looks a bit old....

I agree.. the speedway(Why is it even call that, it is soooo slow) .... has to go!!!! ..... electric cars.. I like that idea!! Lilo & Stitch.. well.. since he has already taken over the Extraterrestrial ride.. Im not sure they will do another Stitch thing.... I dont know... there are so many options

Also.. 20,000 leagues "LAND"...... What about a Monsters Inc ride??? I love that film!!! I want to see Mike and Sully!!!
Maybe some sort of maze where you go through different doors and finish at different places in the world.... a multiple option ride (ir that were possible) would be amazing, because it would be different every single time, and you would get to see all these different bedrooms in different parts of the world...

Ok.. Ill stop...

Good ideas - completely agree about the speedway.

Also agree that some rides look a bit out dated ? Jungle book overlay for the Jungle cruise - also could have Tarzan in there as well.

New dark rides would be nice in fantasyland as well - snow white is too scary for the littl'uns and suffers a bit from the hardboard on hinges look as for the theme - take your pick so many great films - cinderella where you go 'round the scenes in coaches. Little mermaid in the lagoon? beauty and the beast in a teacup - too many to list really.

Just more more more!:D

I think that the old rides should be revamped rather than replaced. Can't help thinking that replacements are just moving too far away from Walt's original intentions for DisneyWorld. Keep the dream alive!

mondo1748
February 13th, 2004, 20:42
This is in fact far from the truth. Walt always like new and creative things and also always pushed the envelope. Also tomorrow land was designed to always be a place of excitement. With due respect you want to creat a Disney Museum of history. Yes somethings should never be changed. IE HM or Pirates. These rides have soared to a status unto there own. As for the rest of the rides unless they are big hits or if they are just dated and people go to them for something to do then they should be updated/torn down. The Race track can be turned into a Toy Story adventure. Since it's in TomorrowLand we can have a toy fighter flown by kids that flys through a bedroom of super large objects. You can be chased by Virtual Dogs and fly though Tennis rackets .....and so on (I never did develop the details). But stuff like this is. This is fun interactive and new, yet holds the values of creativity and doesn't remain stale.

So in Short I have to say .......Walt is Dead people.....The only thing you need to take away from his life is Creativity, Detail, Story, Technology, Maintenance. Everyone tries to interpet Walt in there own way....these are the actions he has pursued....this speaks to his thoughts the most.

Move the race track away from the resort area and move it over by WWS where it should be.

Rethink the Swan and Dolphin. Whoever decided to put it there and ruin the World Showcase skyline was a dolt.

This may be unpopular but I would never have built the value resorts.

Get rid of the McDonald stations in the parks.

Universe of Energy...45 mins make for a very nice nap! Replace it with just the dino portion. Or maybe just shorten the ride by 30 mins!

I love to see the kids who go to Universe of Energy right when the first walk up. And then when they leave...You wouldn't think they were at Disney World! I had classes in college more exciting!

I agree too, but taking Pooh away would also mean taking away a lot of happiness, especailly from pre-school kids. So, I don;t know if Pooh should go, I say yes because I don't like it (and haven't done since the age of eight), but, you also have to think about the little ones of this planet. Wlat alsowanted to give everyone joy in DisneyWorld, not just some people and make others sad because a ride they had liked was torn down because others didn't like it.

Put the Sky way ride back in Fantasyland ! What was it called and why did they get rid of it ? And what ride use to be across from the pooh ride , where you can meet and greet characters . I think Cinderella's mice friends are in there !

For those who want to keep Pooh.....why not have a land/park of Classic Disney....all the old rides and attractions are rebuilt or transferred there.
Sadly I have to say Pooh needs to stay....Since Disney is coming up with fewer and fewer characters/shows/songs that the kids can reference that are not 40 years old by now.....it keeps the park a little modern/fresh

Tinker
July 6th, 2004, 16:25
mondo, which "old rides ' are you referring to ? It sounds like a good idea , but Walt envisioned the sections of (at least ) Magic Kingdom , to be for kids of all ages... Peter Pan's Flight , Snow White's Scary Adventure's ,Dumbo and Mad Hatter's Teacups are all Classic Disney . Along with It's A Small World . When parents want to teach their children about the history of Walt , they start with the Classic Movies . Most children ( I would think and hope ) know the story behind the rides . Fantasyland would not be the same to me without these rides . And then we have Carousel Of Progress, Astro , Jungle Cruise, Pirates , Haunted Mansion . They are also considered Classic's. Although , they did do a movie on Pirates and Haunted Mansion . :hehe:

I don't doubt teh fact that kids know these older rides, like Snow White, Peter Pan,Alice in Wonderland (tea cup), and so on. BUT these don't hit a cord in kids like say NEMO or Beauty and the Beast....These are newer and more marketed then the other films now. I'm just saying that they need to keep rides in the park that appeal to the young kids in the same way the old rides applealed and still do to us. I would still like to see a park dedicated to all the old rides....that had some success....NOT total flops (to save space)

Tinker
July 6th, 2004, 20:18
I'm not disputing what you said in the least , mondo . I just think we should leave the old rides alone , freshened , ( which they are always , doing anyway ) , but NOT changed . :hehe: Maybe , they could do a Fiding Nemo ride , where 20,000 Leagues under the sea was ( but wasn't there water problems ) build it by Ariel's Grotto , bring back the SkyRide over looking Fantasyland , also .

i agree with dawn,i'd like to see more attractions-say in mgm down by the backlot tour and new york-it always seems an opportunity wasted to not use that space down there(it is pretty quiet for a wdw park)-i'd also like to see added depth to the world showcase, but i'm probably just being greedy there and hoping to make it even BETTER(don't get me wrong it's my favourite place in all wdw).the magic kingdom has a great many attraction just needing a preening while animal kingdom is adding to it's repertoire all the time

I have an idea for a new ride. It has a "Little Mermaid" motif and all riders are either mermaids or mermen. The ride would consist of a small lagoon similar to 20000 Leagues. The difference would be that the riders actually swim through the ride with underwater breathing equipment known as "SNUBA". This is proven technology available in many Caribbean and Hawaiian cities, a combination of Snorkelling and SCUBA, that doesn't require any certification or training. It is not even necessary to know how to swim. You can actually just walk through the water, breathing normally through a pressurized hose.
It would be a great mix of technology and imagination, a perfect Disney opportunity. Maybe this could be offered at the water parks as an add-on? In cruise ports SNUBA is a stand-alone attraction. I would like to see it bundled with Disney's imagineering.

Creative, but I have two words for you.......liability and lawsuits.

I could see it at the water parks more but it would have to be 18 and older along with having to sign some kind of waiver.

I would replace MGMs "Sounds Dangerous With Drew Carey"   This the worst attraction in Disney ever. I was reading some reviews and came across this one that sums up my feelings totally.

"We got there after dinner and after a typical Florida late afternoon downpour so there wasn't much of a line. Thank Goodness. I can honestly say that this is the worst ride/attraction at all of the Disney Parks. Do not, I repeat, do not, waste you time on this attraction. You sit in the dark and listen to sounds of Drew Carey pretending he is a private investigator working undercover. An absolutely major disappointment. Avoid it like the plague. Two thumbs down." Bill Heinick

What to replace it with, how about a crane with one of those great big iron balls. Everyone gets to have one shot at destroying this mind-numbing "attraction"
