I am new to the DVC and was wondering how it works to book a cruise using points. I was told when we bought our points that we could use them for one person on the cruise and pay cash for the spouse and kids. I was wondering if they give you a discount or if you pay full price for everyone else . Just wondering for now for future trips. I am trying to figure out the best way to use points.

Hi Ilovetink,
All of the cruise rates are "per person, per cruise". If you have sufficient points then obviously you can pay for all members of your party with your points.
Any shortfall can be made up by paying cash.
I doubt if any discount will be offered if you are a DVC member.

You must be realistic to think of what the points you are exchanging for cruise positions & what they are worth.
For example we went on a 4 day cruise last year during peak Easter week. If we used points for all it did not make sence because the amount of points used would eat so much from our bank that it was cheeper to pay for the cruise, or what we did was use points fro the 3rd & 4th people in the room which were our kids and we paid for our adults. also keep in mind that if points are exchanged out of home base (dvc) properties they can not be changed back to points for home based properties, they are out there & if for some reason you cancel , they must be used in your use year.
We have enough points to go to disney 3 weeks a year, depending on what season & it just does not make sence to substitute 3 weeks of fun for 1 week of fun unless you have no other plans for that use year.
