Just throwing around the idea of maybe going to Vero Beach in the late part of this summer. My question is, is there anything to do besides the beach that would be fun for the kids also. (any tourist attractions?)

Thanks

Jen

There isn't much in the surrounding immediate area as most is residential. There is the town of Vero Beach proper, a bit further south from the resort. There is the usual mall there.

I believe there is an animal refuge or zoo nearby, but not certain. I just heard some folks at work talking about it.

It is a place to go and relax, enjoy the ocean, the pool and the activities that are scheduled throughout the week.

So it sounds very much like Hilton Head then. Just wondering.

Thanks

OKWTink is right, not much to do there other than relax. They do have a nature expert (Mary Ann) who leads bike trail and kayak tours, there is an Indian River exploration tour and scuba diving, but no attractions. The resort does have a few things for kids, a camp fire lead by Galaxia (yes, that is her name), beach exploring, cookie decorating...

Here are some photos from our two trips, many are panoramics so be patient while they download.

Sorcerer Mickey those are great photos! I love the last one that captures the sea.

They do a beautiful job of showing Vero for what it is, a peaceful place to kick back and relax. Rather in the manner of the old Victorian seaside holidays.

Thanks, it is a beautiful resort. I'll have to talk with my hubby and see what he thinks.

Sorcerer Mickey, how long did your family stay there? Also, what are the ages of your kids. Mine are 11 and 8.

Both times we have stayed there 3 nights, just enough to recharge our batteries. Kids?, none yet, but planning :D

I have to praise Vero Beach. We went for our first time last June after a short trip to WDW. It was just what the dr. ordered after visiting theme parks.

There isn't much else to do there. The small town of Vero Beach proper only had a few little boutique type shops. If you then made a right & drove a few more miles there was a nice outlet mall & some other smaller outdoor mall type places. But the nice thing was there was no crowds anywhere. Whenever & wherever we ate we walked right in & sat down. That was wonderful. I have to be honest, on rainy days I was wishing for an IMAX or a Ripleys as there just wasn't anything to do. But on the pretty days my kids (ages last year of 4 & 9) were perfectly happy to spend the day on the beach, then move to the pool for awhile, then go shower & go out to dinner, come back & rent a free video & relax in the room. We liked it so much we are going back this summer too for a week. This time I am going to do some more checking into what is around within an hour or so drive so we can do other things.

I'll have to remember to ask you about your next trip when this summer is over.

Thanks for your input!!!:ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :ears:

I just called today & got my ressies for VEro Beach 18th through the 25th of June! I'm so excited. It worked out perfect for when I already had the WDW ressies. Even the CM was suprised I was able to get it this close. So I feel lucky! I'm just relieved & breathing a huge sigh now that the planning & reservation stage is over. Now the fun part of planning & plotting all to do!

draje01,
I was wondering how long it would take to go from Vero Beach to Kennedy Space Center?
I was thinking that might make an interesting side trip...

DC,

Hmmmm, not sure, my parents used to live in Merrit Island which is about 5 - 10 minutes away but honestly, I don't know how long of a drive it would be. It's an idea though. We went there about 9 years ago and it was really interesting and fun. I may do a little research on that.

Also, if anyone finds out before I do, please let the rest of us know!!!:ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears: :bounce: :ears:

That was something we planned on doing as we had met a family at VB last year & they went to KSC while they were there. Isn't there also a big old war ship or something near there you can go tour???? Yeah, I'm giving a lot of information to work with here! :D
