We have been to Orlando before but never gone to Downtown. We are staying on I-Drive and not having a car.

Is it easy to get to using buses, or is it not far so you can have a taxi?

Is it worth going, what is there, what is the atmosphere like?

Is it more of a daytime place, or is it somewhere we could go for a night out for a change?

Appreciate your opinions

My personal opinion is theres not really that much there, if you like trains theres church street station but thats nothing special. Its about a 20 minute drive so im not sure about transport to Downtown Orlando im sure theres a bus service.

There is a very nice area around Lake Eola. You can rent a gondola or a swan boat on the lake. There are several neat shops around too. There is the Thornton Park shopping district. It's not in the commercial area of downtown, but is in the heart of the city never the less.

The problem with visiting downtown Orlando is that you truly need a car. It is a sprawling city (city being a relative term at this point) and does not lend itself well to walking.

All in all, if you never go to downtown Orlando you won't miss a thing.

ok thanks for that. was worried that just staying mostly on I-Drive would be wrong and we'd be missing something.

So Church Street Station is not that good then?

Church Street Station used to be wonderful for the nightlife but I have heard that that is all toned down now and nowhere near as lively as it used to be. :(

Essentially, it's been made into a business park. There are one or two places left in there, but it's no where near the entertaining place it used to be.
