When does the 5oth anniversary of DL officially begin ? DH and I are seriously thinking about going to DL this year . Perhaps, we'll try for the same time as you DC , the 25th of June is my b-day .

I think the Golden Celebration officially begins in May (there's a thread floating about some where).
I'll try to coordinate a trip to visit Leu & Grandpa Sweetie with the June dates so we can have a meet or two. Leu & I were discussing it this past weekend, and we're thinking of an overnight stay in the vicinity to avoid the drive (all of one hour--but we're lazy!).
Grandpa Sweetie doesn't do queues for anyone except his grandchildren. :)
Or a good golf game! ;)

Thanks, Taja ! A meet would be great , maybe we can recruit some others . How many days is enough at DL ? Are there other parks close by ? I'm so lost , I've only ever been to WDW .

I was going to post a thread about a possible Disneyland Golden Celebration meet in summer 2004 in a couple of months, but this beat me to it!
I'm pretty much out of touch, as well, Tinker! I do know you need a car to get around beyond the Disneyland complex, though!
I'm going to say 2 to 3 full days at Disneyland/CA would be plenty.
Remember that June weather in the Los Angeles/Orange County area can be variable. Mornings and evenings can be down right nippy (or not :sigh: ) and days can be comfortably cool to blazingly hot. Pack accordingly!
Knott's Berry Farm (sorry, Theme Parks!) are about 20 to 30 minutes away, depending on route and traffic. Haven't been there in a gazillion years (that's more than the bazillion I haven't been to Disneyland). A colleague was there earlier this year and enjoyed it. They used to have a shopping area (sort of like Downtown Disney and City Walk at Universal--but Knott's predated those by about 30 years or so!) that was free of charge. They should have a website. They had the first flume (log) ride in the area--we used to stand in line for an hour just to ride it!
I'm guessing Orange County and/or Anaheim will have websites, so you might want to check that out before thinking about venturing further afield. Orange County (think Irvine/Newport areas) has some of the most expensive land in the state (outside San Francisco) and shopping to match!
Magic Mountain (owned by Six Flags) is in Valencia, about 30 to 45 minutes north of where Leu & Grandpa Sweetie live (near the Burbank airport), so it's about 1.5 to 2 hours from the Disneyland area. It's primarily thrill rides.
Universal Studios is near the Burbank airport (sort of--about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the traffic). That puts it about 1.5 hours from Disneyland. When I lived there, it was a pretty lame backlot tour in a tram (parting of the Red Sea was the big attraction!) and I'm not a movie fan, so it wasn't very interesting. It's probably more on the order of the one in Florida now, so you'll want to check the website.
For a complete change of pace, head to Santa Barbara. About 1.5 hours from Burbank Airport, you'll find a gorgeous beach, interesting shops, Mission Santa Barbara, UCSB (University of California at Santa Barbara) lots of expensive architecture to gawk at, etc. A great place to relax for a couple of days (1 or 2 nights).
San Diego is about 1.5 to 2 hours south of the Burbank Airport (great landmark for me, since Leu & Grandpa Sweetie are nearby!). You can spend a week there and still have things you want to do! Definitely need wheels, though, as well as $$$$ cash! Might want to get Johnie in on the planning session, as she has a nose for bargains! :)
San Diego Zoo, Sea World, San Diego Wild Animal Park near Escondido and LegoLand near Carlsbad, old town San Diego. A few more things my brain is too fuzzy to focus on at the moment. I'm sure San Diego has a website for your convenience!

You do realize you're thinking about Disneyland in the middle of a flood, don't you? ;)

Well it is finally done. After much of the month planning, the flight and hotels are booked. DLR 7/07 through 7/12 for DS birthday, followed by an extended stay in San Diego through 7/25. Wish me luck, it will be our first trip to the opposite coast. I hope that I have chosen well.
