I have read in a lot of the guide books about how lovely the Winter Park area of Orlando is. As we are staying on-site is it worth a trip over there? If so, would couple of hours be about right. We will not have a car so would probably need to combine it with somewhere else and take a taxi. Also, does anyone know if Quicksilver will do this sort of trip? Thank you, :) .

Used to live in Orlando (89-97--former WDW CM). Winter Park is a beautiful little town. Park Avenue has some nice shops and cafes...it would be easy to spend the afternoon here. There used to be a nice little boat tour as well....took you through some of the canals and lakes, where you could see some beautiful homes and scenery (it's a pretty affluent area).
That being said, it may be a little much without a car. It's a good distance from WDW--I'd estimate at least a 45 min. drive, without traffic. I know back when I lived there, a cab from WDW to downtown Orlando was about $30.00 or so, and Winter Park is another 15 minutes (at least) beyond downtown.
If you could arrange reasonable transportation, it would be a nice way to spend an afternoon.
Take care,
Scott

Winter Park frequently has a festival or two going on during. The Art Festival is one of the larger events. Saturday is the Farmer's Market and that is always fun.
It is essentially a little village area with shops and cafes and restaurants. Rollins College is incorporated into some of the area, and that adds to the feel of a small college town.
For a little place there is good diversity. I can't imagine why Quicksilver wouldn't be able to take you! It will be more a matter of whether or not you want to pay for the transport.

:) Thank you, Scott and OKWTink. I think it will be worth a visit if we can combine with something else in the area. I like to do at least one different thing each time we go to Florida, although it is difficult to tear myself away from WDW!

Winter Park is not far from the Science Museum, and the Art Museums, if that interests you. Also, there is Leu Gardens in the vicinity too. You could do one or some of those events and then Winter Park.
