I've been to both orlando and California Disneys, and I was just wandering, if after going to these it is worth going to DLP. I have heared off several people that it is a bit of a let down. What do you think? I'm thinking of traveling around european cities over the next couple of years, and when I go to Paris i was thinking about going to DLP.. or should i just skip it?

DLP isnt a big as WDW, but hey its in europe and we can get our bit of disney fix.........i'd say BTMR is actally better in DLP than it is in america, but rides such as star tours are in french, you will find the Timekeeper open in DLP as well, just get some english headphones......some people have said that people dont seem to queue for ride or characters very well.........but as your going to be there, its an excuse to see the mouse :D

I'll have to see about going to DLP. I can speak some french, but if most of the stuff is in French, i don't think Hawko will like that too much. We'll just have to see what happens.

....and I swear RNRC goes faster in DLP

if you've been to WDW then you'll be fine as you will know whats going on, as DLP was the 1st disney park i went too, i was so happy 4 years later to find out what was going on in star tours.........PaulaK is Honey i shrunk the audience in english or french

DS rates RnRC & Space Mountain better at DLP as they are newer. He says they are much smoother than those at WDW.
Can't say that the language thing was a problem although any merchandise with writing on it is in french i.e. the Cinderella Dress has Cenderillon(sp) on it and the White Rabbit signed his Autograph in french.

Honey I Shrunk The Audience was really weird. Because it is originally in English, they havd dubbed it with very loud french which you can hear even whilst wearing the headphones, and the original shows sound is played through the phones - but - at a half second delay to the lips of the characters, which takes a little bit of getting used to!!

The funniest thing at DLP is that captain hook signs his name - captain crochet - doesnt quite sound right!

I agree that some rides at DLP are better as they are newer, space mountain is definitely better at DLP. I think sadly the disney studios at DLP are a big let down, they arent a scratch on the studios at wdw. In fact I have been to all disney parks, including Japan, and the studios at DLP were the only time where I felt a bit of an anticlimax. Also, I dont think it has helped that they havent added anything new to the first park and it doesnt look as though there is anything planned for either parks in the near future

But, all the same DLP is worth a visit

Mike

:iagree: The Stusios are a big disappointment. They shouldn't have built them until the forst park was more established. It's saving grace is RnRC and for the kids the flying carpets. The catastrophe canyon is okay, but the backlot tour isn't long enough IMO. Last week I watched the new Lilo and Stitch show and it was very funny. Very well thought out and all in English :D

The good news is now it has it's rescue plan, the banks are less likely to walk away from it. They have realised the only thing to do is put more money in.

The Imax theatre is the next addition, followed hopefully by the much rumoured ToT.

To whoever said that DLP isnt as big as WDW... you're right... DLP is BIGGER than WDW...

Sure if you mean WDW as in "7 parks and all the hotels" then yeah its bigger, but the main park itself is smaller than Disneyland Paris'.

As for the Studios, they're okay for an afternoon (dont forget the excellent Cinemagique and Animagique shows!!), but its not an all day thing.

DLP seems to have better versions of many rides than the other parks, the only reason some people say its a "let down" is because people dont say "have a magical day" do you as you walk in and that kinda stuff, and its harder to banter etc as a family walking towards a cast member could be one of about 5 languages, the cast member would either have to guess, or reel off the same greeting in English, French, German, Spanish etc which would be silly.

I've been to the American versions, and yes they're good, but I really love Disneyland Paris, as it has so much more detail and the theming is very immersive! Instead of it being "go on the rides! go on the rides! buy things from the shops! buy things!" like the American ones seem to be (ie, having to walk through a shop to get out of a ride, or 2 shops to get out of the park), DLP is more "aah relax, 'ave a look around ze park, enjoy yourself, lose yourself!" :)

Definately worth a visit!

(Also, Honey I Shrunk The Audience is mainly in French now, but on tuesdays and thursdays [I think its those 2 days] its in English with French headphones instead of the other way around)

....and they serve beer!

The Tuesday/Thursday thing would make sense. Wednesday is the French schools half day. That's a good tip TR!

Its ok, as long as you take it for what it is. I think it's ok, and BTMR is better than at WDW I think. It's great for a Disney fix, but not much more.

:rotfl: Captain crochet!! what a let down!! I agree with redkop when he says its our little fix of disney closer to home. Im not impressed with the studios in france and I agree the parks in Florida are nicer for the weather and the fact I understand what is being said but why do people always compare? DLP is not WDW its a petite piece of disney to be enjoyed by children of all ages (admittedly usually in the rain but you cant have everything!!)
We always seem to compare things - the hotel last year was prob. bigger than this one; the teacher theyve got now is not a patch on the last one; im sure M&S knickers have gotten smaller than in previous years (er...um.. that could be just my figure :afraid: !!). If its what you can afford or a fantastic deal comes your way - who isnt gonna jump right in. Id rather be in WDW staying at a deluxe hotel but life isnt always fair so id plump for a clean hotel with hot 'n cold running (water not bugs) and Id even learn to flap my arms fast if it meant a cheaper way of getting there. But for now I need that thrill of saying "im going to disney" and the heart thumping joy of my children nearly breaking their beds leaping up and down with excitement and the only one I can save for is DLP - so thats where I go. Its 2nd best for me but its better than nowt! And I know if I saved all my pennies instead of going again to DLP Id get to WDW quicker but I must have my sanity restored!!! :sigh:

LOL I agree Alison, Disney should have thought of sunny England - devon/Cornwall perhaps or Kent - now that would be ideal! I could rent my spare room out as B & B in peak season and make enought to visit Florida!! Cottage industry here I come!!
However, im sure all those french petit pois enfant would love to believe MM is french - and hey, maybe he is!!!!!!! Surely he is different things to different people.
And, gosh Alison, you get on her early!!

Ha ha, I check out the website before I go to work sometimes!

Sad eh!

I couldnt bring myself to go to DLP with everyone speaking French. Talk about spoil the magic. It would for me anyway.

I agree that in many aspects the magic kingdom park at DLP is better, but I never understood why at the DLP studios they built the backlot tor with catastrophe canyon - which i think nowadays is a bit old hat - why didnt they build a TOT or even something like the great movie ride which though old is a great classic. Maybe they just went for the cheapest options and I think for that they are paying the price, in visitor numbers

It is interesting to note that though Disney Japan is hugely successful and gets twice as many visitors as DLP, during its first few years after opening in 1983 it was not a success at all and almost failed, but they embarked on a major energy drive and investment programme etc and it really paid off. Hopefully DLP may now follow suit!!!

I can't wait for Hong Kong Disneyland to open! :bounce: I think i'd like to try Tokyo too, but where else would you go? Is it worth going just for a week? If we go to Hong Kong we plan on flying on to Australia, hopefully for 3 weeks over Christmas.

i am sure there are plan for a TOT ride in DLP and there was going to be a version of EPCOT, i guess its on hold but surely if Universal in spain starts to expand then DLP will have too, i still reckon that disney picked the wrong location for there europe park

:rotfl: :rotfl: Alison! Yes, it would prob. still be in french, but the cms would be shorter!!
A good idea would be to detach the spaceship earth ball at wdw Epcot and roll it on down to DLP - maybe even flattening parts of the Studio as it went. I loved that slow-breakydown ride and will miss it. Now, where can we find a lorry!! :D
