I have just returned from my WDW vacation earlier today and while visiting I found the greatest tip that I can give to anyone. In the past we spent tons on buying soft drinks every time we got thirsty or having to keep up with a water bottle throughout the day. This time every time we got thirsty we got free cups of ice water. All you have to do is ask! Sometimes they will even give it to you in large cups. All you have to do is go to a restaurant or counter service that has fountain drinks and a water button. They will be happy to give it to you free of charge. Sometimes the small cups they usually give you aren't enough so we just asked for more than one. I ate lunch over at MGM at a quick-service location near TOT and ordered two cups of water. The waiter gave me the water in large cups. This would cost over $5.00 if it was soda or bottled water. WHY BUY BOTTLED WATER IF YOU COULD GET IT FOR FREE!!! Now some people do like to have the bottle to carry around all day. Some days we might buy one or bring one from the room and just fill it up with the free cups of ice water. All around this is a great deal. It saved our family a lot of money and it was a lot colder than drinking from the water fountains. The only downfall is that sometimes the counter does not have fountain drinks. Usually there is one within a short distance from you. Next time you go to WDW this is one thing you definitely want to try!!!

Hmmm, didn't the water taste funny? Florida water has a weird taste to it. I can't even brush my teeth with it and use bottled water for that. I am thinking get the water and use the Brita water bottle. Just wondering about the taste?

I find the taste of the water that you get from the counter service (and other restaurants) at WDW to taste funny too. I don't even like the ice. I'd rather drink out of the water bubbler, as it does not seem to have quite the edge of sulpher taste to it. But then, I don't like the free Bud at SeaWorld either. :D
I know lots of folks do get free ice water though, and if it works for them, it can be a great savings. I certainly think it's worth a try for those who would like to see if they can make use of this little "insider tip."

Water at WDW has a metalic tang to it that I find upleasant. It's less noticable if the water is ice-cold.
Water outside WDW in Kissimmee and Orlando has a faint sulfurous smell and taste that is disgusting to me.
I solve this by using the Britta Fill and Go bottle. I can fill the bottle anywhere, even from a bathroom tap, and the filter makes the water taste pure and clean. If I want cold water, I fill the bottle with ice from a restaurant, drink cart, or hotel ice machine. I typically don't bother trying to keep the water cold, however, as drinking very cold water when you are super hot and thirsty can sometimes give you stomach cramps.

I did this last year too. And saved tons of money. I thought the water was fine, of course, it didn't taste like bottled. Nonetheless, that didn't stop me from getting some. I went in July, so I would have drank anything, by mid afternoon. :)

Come on people, its water, not the nectar of the gods. I think people who drink bottled water have a funny taste.

I miss the water I got back home in Oz - tasted Yummy. Different countries have to add different things to their water supply depending on the climate I guess - i.e. we have flouride in our water in Oz for children's teeth which is a good idea but we don't have to worry about things like limescale.
My opinion is:- If it's wet, cold and free then I can't complain (unless it has a brown tinge - then might think twice)!

Some of the water fountain water tasted a little weird, but most of the water from the fountains tasted fine. There was one time when we got water from a counter-service that tasted a little funny, so we just got some more from another location.
For any tourist heading to Universal/IOA, this tip works there too. I actually think that there water tastes better than some bottled water.
I guess everyone has a different taste for water. I say try it and if you don't like the water, bring bottled water.

We always do this when we visit parks. I don't think the water here tastes funny, but I guess I'm just used to it. We are pretty much broke some weeks, and even at home, (in Kissimmee) we drink mostly tap water, and think it tastes just fine. I guess what you're used to. Plus, I can't see spending so much money on the fancy filters or bottled... it's only WATER!

We always ask for the free ice water and then fill my Brita sports bottle. That way there's no funny taste. Unless of course, you forget and put tea in the bottle, and that makes the tea taste funny. Blech.

Another good tip is too bring Kool-Aid with you to the park in a plastic bag. If you have a water bottle pour the mix into the water and shake it. You have instant Kool-Aid!

Hi,
I was just wondering WillCAD if its possible to buy those Britta Fill and Go bottles in the UK  ? Its just that when we go on holiday, My mum and dad can't stand the taste of the water, me and my brother are fine  , but we're not sure about my nan. She's never been to Florida or anywhere else in America for that matter, so we're not sure if she'll like it, you see she's quite fussy  , but you didn't hear that from me  .
Anyway,
Thanks in advance,
Hayley

And as good as an idea as it is, we tried this once at Pecos Bill's and I couldn't drink the water. It had a metallic taste that was down right nasty! The fountains are pure nectar compared to what I had there. Now, when we go into sit down restaurants, I'm known to drink water - lots of water. And it doesn't have that nasty taste. Maybe it was just Pecos Bill's water... I don't know.

Someone--I'm thinking OKWTink--mentioned that the water at MK has an entirely different taste than at the other parks (not favorable!). Apparently it has a different water source than the other parks!
Hayley, I know you can buy the Brita bottles in the UK but can't remember where. I you search "Brita Bottles" in the parks and planning forums, you should find some information.
If you have transportation (i.e., rental car) while in Orlando, you also can purchase them at any of the discount stores. Just in case you do this, at WalMart they are located in the plumbing area (kitchen faucets, etc.). Not sure about the logic behind that, except it all relates to water! :)

hi all
what we used to do was to go to publics and buy diet coke , much cheaper than in the parks , and just ask for a cup of ice and then add the coke to the ice --result ice cold diet coke at about 1/2 the price of the stuff on sale in the parks
i used to have a sweet shop in the uk and when ever we went on holiday we would take cans from my shop with us --mega cheap that way
and one year our baggage was well under th weigth limit so i added a few cans of diet coke in the case to save a few pounds all went well till customs
i got pullled over and my case was searched and the official wanted to know why i was bringing 10 cans of coke into as he callled it "the home of coca cola "
he was very suspicious untill i told him i slld it for a living so was bringing it to save money -- he was totaly happy with this and wished me a good holiday and sent me on my way . but it was a bit scarey being singled out like that it was the first time i had ever been stopped at customs
