as you know mandy and i and the kids are going to wdw for 4 weeks from nov 15th this year

mandys divorce has just come through and she has hinted that she would like to get married while we are there

we would have liked to get married in side wdw but the cost frigthtened us off when we saw the video and price list +as there are only the 4 of us we think we would look lost in the wedding chapple

can you lot please help with this load of questions

is it easy to get married in orlando
is there somewher near wdw to get married
what is it like if there is
how much is it
would we need witnesses and if so are they easy to find

the only thing that worries me is that we would look really "sad " and boring with just the 4 of us there , i know we are thinking of getting married there to save all the hasle at home but i think weddings need a few more people around to make it fun.

basicly any ideas you have on this would be really great

we are not definate but it is a big possibility

also the first week of our stay we are at the CBR are there any benifits of getting married from there

my other thought is it is mandys birthday in the 24th november and that would be a great day to get married ( never forget the date that way) and if we did it that day i would love to book a one night stay at the grand floridean -- the questions on this are do they do one night stays and if so approx what would it cost at that time and would it be worth it ?

thanks guys

im normally great at sorting stuff like this but my brain has just gone to jelly
this is my 3rd wedding and i did the whole thing myself for the 2nd one with no worries so i dont know why im like this now

Hi Steve......guess who!! :rotfl:

You couldn't consider having it a bit later could you? You could have me and some UOG friends as *Rent-a-crowd*!

Seriously, Keith got married in WDW and Redkop got married outside WDW. Both, I'm sure, can point you in the right direction.........unfortunately neither are here right now. They keep telling me they have a life!! :rotfl:

They'll be along and help you out, I just arrange the after wedding parties! :rotfl:

red runs in from the pub you mean i have a life queenie  ,yeah stevie me and mrs redkop got married at cypress grove here (www.cypressgrovepark.com). it was set in a park but we had the house and the grounds behind the house to ourselves, it was flat so your daughter wouldnt have a problem in her wheelchair, getting married over there is dead easy, 3 days before your wedding you need to visit the cout house in kissimiee, i think Tink would now the directions, you fill in a form, pay your fee..........i think it was $88, get your licence and then off you go to your wedding, there was only 4 of us at ours and we had a great time, any other questions just ask and i will quiz mrs redkop :D

There is a place on 192 (east) called the Little White Wedding Chapel. Folks get married there in droves. It's close to WDW, but that's about all it has going for it.

There are lovely areas surrounding WDW. Leu Gardens in Winter Park is beautiful, Bok Tower is too (but that's about an hour away). There are areas on the boardwalk and at the Swan and Dolphin (outdoors, but I'm sure there are indoors too) that see folks getting married all the time! It is fierce on WDW property though!

You most certainly can book a room at GF for one night. I couldn't tell you how much it would be, but it will be costly, most likely. Only you can decide if it is worth the price. You'll be checking in around 3 pm and have to check out by 11 am.

Does it really cost $88 for a license? Wowie! That's a lot of money as far as I'm concerned. From what I understand though, it is a relatively painless process at the courthouse.

does that mean expensive ? im struggling with that one
dont like the idea of a one hour drive from the wdw area i am not that confident driving in the states alway conjvinced ill gert lost this is from past experience !!

i have always fancied staying in the GF and i think that would make it that little bit extra special after all you only get married once , or in my case 3 times !!!!

Last year, we stayed at The Swan and there were a few weddings on. One couple were having their photos done in front of the fountains and Mickey was there all dressed up in his Tux, he was sooooooo handsome! :faint:

Yes candyman, sorry. :sorry: I do mean that a wedding of any sort at WDW is very expensive, but I would guess (and I am only guessing) that having it on the side lawn at the Swan or at the covered gazebo like area at the EPCOT end of the boardwalk would be less expensive than in the wedding chapel on the GF grounds. However, I'm not sure about that!

Steve,

As WQ said, Helen and I were married in 2002 at the GF wedding chapel.

I don't know what to tell you... it was absolutely fantastic, exceeded my expectations in every way (other than a hopeless wedding planner) and I haven't ever, for a moment, even considered that we should've done anything different.

I'm very much not religious and so for me, I already considered myself "married" in everything but a piece of paper.. but it was massively important to Helen. So honestly I planned the wedding for lots of nice Disney moments thinking I'd be standing with my hands in my pockets smiling because Helen was having a nice time even if it would be less significant lifewise to me.

Well :) I was completely overcome and of course it ended up meaning the world to me too. I can't really adequately explain what it was like to meet the limo driver at the wilderness lodge and have photos taken in front of the beautiful christmas decorations. Christmas bell ringers in the background... the wedding pavilion was wonderful of course and we looked out at the magic kingdom castle as we said I do. Then onto a reception at the grand floridian and photos on the grand staircase etc.

In terms of cost, I reckon it probably cost about $3500 ish for the wedding, more for the special photos we had done at parks maybe another $1000 all told, then we stayed at the WL and POLY so another few thousand there...

There was just the two of us and we had loads of little options etc... so it does add up. My honest opinion, it was worth every penny. I loved it to bits and when I think back on it, I smile everytime just thinking of it.

You COULD, if you wanted to, cut back on the options in the intimate wedding package and knock the cost down. Likewise of course, where you stay has a bearing. All stars is just as magical (to me anyway) as the poly.. just in a different way.

I'm totally biased. Knowing what I know about the day, feeling what I feel, I wouldn't have wanted to do it any differently... but I do a fair bit of wedding photography and I see people over the moon happy exchanging rings in a small local registry office and then I see people who look fed up and unhappy doing the same at multi million pound mansions.

If I can help with any questions feel free to ask!

I know I'm going to get slated for butting in on a wedding thread, but I'm past caring :hehe:

I think the intimate wedding packages start at somewhere between $1000-2000 without accomodation. I would expect the wedding pavilion to be more expensive than somewhere like the Polynesian or BoardWalk wedding locations.
Check out the Disney Weddings si (http://disneyweddings.disney.go.com/disneyworldweddings/dwwhGeneralDisplay?id=WeddingsLandingPage)te for more details and you can request info to be sent. Just looking through that site, and the options available are amazing.

We're a cheap bunch you know, we'd bring our own champagne and confetti  :marry:

yeah the wedding pavilion adds nearly another $1000 to the price over and above a poly location. We wanted the poly first but it was looking like it MAY rain given on the stats of the previous years and if it rained or got too windy, they were going to move it all inside to the king kumenamenamenamena (few too many menas there ;-) room and when we saw that we just did NOT want the wedding there. We really didn't like the room and felt we'd lose all the magic of having the wedding at Disney.

The packages tend to be about $3500 but they come with things like a few nights at a resort and so on... so you can take those out if you have other arrangements and so on (although they try hard not to let you!).

So you really can knock the price down somewhat.

Champagnes included though ;-)

Joanne, don't you worry a bit about commenting! You are not butting in, rather sharing your info and that's what we do here!

I like the bringing your own confetti and champagne though! Hey! Maybe that's another aspect of business I could incorporate into my budding Personal Disney Services venture! Providing confetti and champagne to weddings! I'd not be nearly as expensive as WDW services! Of course, I'm kidding about the business bit.

It's good to know that you can arrange a wedding on site at different costs. The covered gazebo-like area of the boardwalk is quite pretty! It's right on the water and I've seen any number of weddings there. I can't imagine it costing as much as the beautiful chapel!

Keith, your rendition of your wedding day is fabulous (are you sure you are human??) Just kidding...

I must say...when my dh and I were married in 2000, Disney wasn't an option (stupid stupid stupid me) he had never been married and wanted a "normal" wedding. So, I accomodated him. We were married a a very nice Inn in New Hampshire, and it was lovely, don't get me wrong. The day was wonderful etc...but there is NOTHING as magical as a Disney wedding.

If I knew then what I know now...I would have spent the money on the Disney wedding instead....it wouldn't have cost more now that I think of it.

p.s. Keith, you are my new hero.

Keith ~ I have always loved reading the details of your /Helen's magical wedding . How romantic ! I get chills just thinking about it . I canot even imagine how beautiful it must be to get married at the wedding chapel . A real dream come true ! I once saw Cinderella's wedding coach with the white horses in front of the wedding chapel. We rode the monorail twice , just so I could see it again . I have a picture somewhere .
I would love for DS and future DIL to be married there , but since thats Not going to happen , perhaps I should start planning a renewal of the vows wedding for 07', 20 years . Can we do a UOG meet in Dec 07 ? That way everyone can be there . Our anniversary is 12/26 , but I wouldn't do it on that date . Too close to Christmas, for everyone .
Tink I'll need your help as the official wedding planner . No champagne though , I'm allergic . Bubbly white cider will do !

The only way to do it is to phone up and talk to the wedding co-ordinators. Depending who you get (they're very variable in terms of niceness/experience etc.) you can negotiate SOME things in and out.

Some things you just can't seem to get them to give up on. For example, I said a big reception was a waste for two of us, could we get anything more intimate... Well they got us a large balcony at the GrandFloridian at sunset overlooking the lake and everything and WOW.... but it cost the same as it would've having a large room ;-) they probably wont take out the whole reception (although you can ask!).

I really did like the reception at the GF though. I always say this bit ;) but it's because it was one of the really special moments... we had loads of photos taken at the grand floridian on the stairs and so many people were wishing us well. A little girl came out of the lift and just gasped, and she was jumping up and down and saying to her mom "look mommy it's a real princess! will she live at the castle now" and of course that made Helen's day even more. It was all truly magical.

Park hoppers and stay they *WILL* take out. From the moment you call them, you need to stress that you've already arranged your stay and tickets. If you waiver, if you say "well I havent booked yet but we dont need the stay included" or anything like that, they'll work on you to keep the stuff in there...

I'm sure the phone number will be on the site somewhere but if it's not I could probably find it somewhere.

To avoid disappointment though I'd just say, they don't seem to knock off as much as you'd hope they would for the accomodation/park hoppers.

keith did you have characters atyour wedding
to me that would seem just so cool if you did was it fun ?

We didn't actually... just being the two of us + wedding planner, plus photographers + violinist etc etc.. we thought it would be a bit much but we did see a couple of characters as we walked through the grand floridian :) and everyone says congratulations, characters hug you and it's all very very special.

I said to everyone, this is our day, we're going to do everything we want to do, exactly the way we want to do it, and WHERE we want to do it. We'd love to have you along, here are the details, if not, we'll get loads of photos for you.

I suppose there were a few days of sulking from some quarters ;-) but it was worth it.

I saw a wedding at the Yacht Club wedding gazebo a few years back. There was just the bride and groom and some sort of musician (violinist?), but they had Mickey and Minnie there, all dressed up in their wedding best. It looked really special even though it was just the two of them.

Steve, the only way you'll get the info you need is to call them. After the initial call you can get an email address if that makes it easier.

But you really need to speak to them because the website just won't tell you the info you need :(. You can't take bits off on the website at all, just doesn't do it (remember, they dont WANT you to take bits off, so they dont make it easy)

The number I have is 407 -934-1266

If not , I could go to the office in my area to see if they have one and mail it to you .

It IS because you're in the UK :(

We are too and six months before the wedding I asked for the video to be sent as well as the brochure. Every time I phoned I said, Still not got that video or brochure! they'd so oooh no! I'll do that immediately for you. No kidding, 4 months *AFTER* the wedding, so 10months in total, we received a video and pamphlet.

When you compare this to US couples who often have multiple face to face meetings with a co-ordinator at the wedding planning place at the wedding chapel and get to choose in person all the cake options etc. we thought we were treated pretty poorly planning wise (and that's after I changed wedding co-ordinator twice because they were hopeless).

At one point they faxed me a horrible tacky photocopy of the cakes and said "make your choice". I phoned and said calmly "yeah well I think i'd like the mouldy looking off-grey patchy one on the left please" before becoming somewhat.... less.....calm :)

Sorry I can't be positive on the planning side. There are two sets of people. The people you first speak to on the phone are wedding sales people basically. Their job is in theory to help you decide what you basically want, but in practice, they a) want to sell everything they can so that b) they can get promoted to the next level which is wedding co-ordinator.

Wedding co-ordinators take over when the sales people have sold you lots of stuff and help plan the dates and things as well as, well, selling you more stuff.

My experience with them was, since it was an intimate wedding costing "only" a few thousand, and we were in the UK, they wanted to just make it all as simple as possible and didn't want to spend much time with us.

I should say that not all event managers/co-ordinators are the same and I think lisa1976 has got Lynn McKitrick for hers. Lynn is widely praised as being THE BEST there and again, through experience, I'd ask for her and even move date to make sure she planned the stuff.

Again having said all that, please don't let it put you off at least pricing it up. The actual day was SO brilliant I didn't care about the planning :)

I'll have my cameras with me and I'd do almost anything for cake (as everyone knows <G>) :overhere:

Anyway being more helpful ;-) the standard cake you get with the package is *massive*!

We had a REALLY good go at sharing ours with everyone at the GF then everyone at the hotel .. and still had to reluctantly throw 3/4 away :(

Still kept the mickey and minnie cake toppers though :)))

What sort of cake is it, Keith? Is it Fruit Cake? I looooove fruit cake!!
If anyone knows of any special way to take a cake abroad I'll make you one, Steve.
I've no kids and Dh with me. Gotta be easier!
I'm serious! It'd be my pleasure.

You get to choose the cake :) there was fruit cake on the list but we had a sort of sponge cake with some cream layers..... it was scrumptious.

Sigh... the more I think about it, the more I remember how really really brill it was. (I should be on commission)

that is soo soo kind

even made mandy smile
she is not misserable just takes life so easily and nothing fazes her
and to be honest it takes a lot to get her excited about stuff like holidays but even she is getting hyped up now because of how things are happening on here .

hope i dont get told off here

keith i am looking to buy a very basic entry level digital cammera for this holiday
i used to be into photography a bit but now i just point and shoot mainly of the family and kids
have been recomeneded the cannon powershot a70 at what looks like a good price of £150
do you know anything about them or could you recomend something around the same price
i would need to blow the pictures up to A4 sometimes

i know its not a wedding thing and its in the wedding thread but i need the camera for my wedding so hopfully i will not get shouted at lol

now back to the real stuff

i must say i think i would prefer a fruit cake and yes there is no way in the world that the cake toppers would not come home with me i have a large display unit in my lounge and i can see a space just waiting for them lol.

Well the A70 is a FINE camera... it's been superceded by the A75 and the A80.

In particular the A80 is selling for about £174 at www.7dayshop.com and a bit more at www.parkcameras.com.

For the extra few quid, I'd try and pick up a good price on an A80 than an A70.

Bottom line, the A series is a REALLY excellent choice for a very good quality point and shoot with a bit of manual control when needed. 4MP so it's not amongst one of the new 6 or 8MP ones but you would get a4 out of it if you're reasonably careful and not *TOO* picky.

Steve, tell us to stop when we become to overbearing, wont you?

All of us getting excited at the same time can be a 'gairy'! :afraid:

Our intentions are good, but we can go overboard a bit. Wouldn't want to frighten Mandy off!

and do you know we are both so pleased and so excited by it all

please keep all those great tips ans ideas coming it all makes it so much more special

so dont worry about upseting or frigtening mandy off she is starting to get excited about the holiday for the first time now !!!!

just a little thought

perhaps it would be a great idea to meet with you all before the big day
otherwise you could all be throwing confetti and insults at some other poor unsuspecting couple !!!!

mind you i think it would be really difficult to mix us lot up
me 6 foot tall and round too ! and an old git
mandy 5 foot 2 and a big bit younger
heather in her wheel chair cant talk but certainly lets you know she is there when she wants too
oli well he is 1 year old now just learning to walk and getting more confident each day so in 121 days i am sure he will be chasing every where. he also chatters away constantly -- if only it was in english it would be great -- so perhaps by then he may have got a few words in english .

well now i can just see you all going omg are we too late to change our minds i dont want to be seen with that lot !!!!

but if you are still interested in coming then we would be very happy
