For a change in November I am going to the Holiday Inn Anaheim resort. Can anyone tell me how far away from the parks this is, how good the hotel is, and if I don't have a car will I have a problem getting to the parks?

Thank you

Hi

We were in Anaheim earlier this year, we stayed at the anaheim sheraton. I've not stayed at the HI but my husband has. He says it's a nice hotel bu that was in 1999! the shuttle went past it on the way to disney and it looked pretty nice. You can also probably walk to disney from there (much more compact then Florida). I don't remember there being any major roads for you to cross. You're also close to lots of places to eat.

What are you planning to do? we loved disney but not too keen on Knotts anymore!

Hi Debs

I think this is the new Holiday Inn which is a bit further out on Convention Drive about 2 blocks away. Is this the same one your husband stayed in?

We will be in Anaheim for 7 days and plan to do 3 days in Disney, a day at Universal Hollywood, a day in Beverley Hills, and I really would like to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Having done WDW for the last 4 Novembers I know I will miss it and the warm weather but having done Paris 3 times, and WDW 5 times from England I really wanted to see the original park.
Any other suggestions on what to do or where to eat would be appreiated. Can I get transport to Magic Mountain & Universal or should I hire a car.
Thanks

WDWMJF,
Here is a link to the cities of Los Angeles (http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=M7tNO.p_0TqT&csz=los+Angeles%2C+ca&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=)
I was wondering with your itinerary, would you consider moving hotels? Universal Hollywood, Beverley Hills, and Six Flags Magic Mountain are quite a ways from Anaheim in heavy traffic...
Universal/Beverly Hills are relatively close. Then Six Flags Magic Mountain is further north. (My sister drove from Anaheim to Pasadena on I-5 which is the route you would take only 6Flags is further!--It took her nearly two hours with traffic back ups--)

In light to moderate traffic, it's a good one-hour drive from the Disneyland vicinity to Universal Studios (North Hollywood). It's another 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic, to Magic Mountain (Valencia) on Interstate 5.

The freeways are a bit tricky, but if you are sure to note the names and numbers (and whether it is a U.S. Route, State Route or Interstate, etc.), it will help a lot. Also, note the names of various cities/areas in the order approaching your destination, as well as some beyond there. I don't know if they have changed the signage, but going to Los Angeles on Interstate 10 you used to have to know that you wanted to go to "Bakersfield!" My father was determined he didn't want to go to Bakersfield. Can't tell you how many times we ended up going toward somewhere else instead!

With any luck, they've improved things significantly. If you check some posts from earlier this year (begin with March), someone indicated that they used a form of ground transportation other than rental car and they are willing to share the information. You might want to PM them to see if they can help.

As a former Angeleno, my only method of transportation was personal car!

Thank you everyone for your help.

I think I will hire a car? Now the next question, where is the Alamo car hire near Disneyland?

Thanks again

We spent 3 days at disneyland recently and did not need a car. I could see that if you were staying there for longer you would need transportation as although there are tours everything is geared to carowners.

forgot to say that at our hotel the HOJO the alamo car hire people picked a couple up to take them to their hire car so the office must not be too far.

We always stay right across the street from Disneyland. And you guys will have such a great time! Some of the rides are different and then there are rides there that they don't have at WDW. Like the Indiana Jones ride...don't miss it!!! It's not like the stunt show at all! And Roger Rabbits ride...it's fun.

We really enjoyed California Adventure also. It's sort of like a compact EPCOT, but not. Did that make sense? Ride the roller coaster, and don't forget Soarin' over California! Man, this really makes me want to go back to Anaheim!

WDWMJF,
I am not sure when you are going in November, but I noticed that the Disney hotels have a deal--stay for 3 nights, get the 4th night free.

(I've seen this on the www.expedia.com site for hotel only and I have also seen it on the AAA site for buying a package.)

Here is another link with Hotels and relative distances (http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html)
Of the off-site places, we have only ever stayed at Desert Inn and Suites (it is very close to the park entrance--it is literally across the street--you do not have to wait for a shuttle! ). When we stayed there, it was a clean comfortable room.

We have also stayed at The Best Western Park Place Inn which is even just a tad closer (we didn't like this place... )

Link to a review Holiday Inn Anaheim at the park (http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/HolidayInnLink.html) --Is this your hotel?
From the above review: "...They offer a shuttle service (ART) that costs $3.00 a day and can be frustrating to use. If you don't want to deal with the shuttle, you can take a looooong walk to Disneyland, or drive, and pay $8.00 to park."
