I just wondered if anyone knows how long it takes to get from Disney World to the Court house where you get the licence? How much do you reckon it would cost to get a taxi there?

dont know how much it would cost in a taxi as we drove from i-drive, think it took us about 30 mins, but we went the long way, i know you can go down the 192 to john young parkway (tink tell me if i am wrong) and then you turn right there on to john young parkway and then you take a left a little way down :D

That sounds right to me! If you were at Hmmm...AKL, it would be the shortest ride, I think. But it's not going to be cheap. 192 is congested and slow and the meter will be ticking away. 30 minutes sounds about right, given the slowness of the road, and traffic.

Hi,

We are staying on I-Drive and are getting married at Cypress Grove Park in October.

We have been told that we need to meet with the Virgin Wedding Co-Ordinator at Wyndham Spa Resort in WDW the day before. Virgin will pay for the taxi to pick us up from I-Drive, but they say although they will arrange for a taxi to take us to the Court House to get our licence, we have to pay for it.

They have said it will be around $65 (but that includes a drop-off back to I-Drive).

Hope this helps!

Ouch, that's a bit dearer than I had planned, and to go from Disney World it would be that bit more expensive! That's another bit of the budget gone already!

kate it might be cheaper to hire a car for a few days, i know some brits dont want to drive over there, but honestly it isnt that bad, the 192 goes slow so thats ok, plus you would have the car to go to some of the cool shopping malls

steve must admit i havent seen that before and the price is quite steep, i remember we had to show our passports at the court and we also had to be in america for 3 days, for a $190 thats twice as much as going the court, maybe someone in the orlando area could let us know if they do mail out licences, again its something i havent heard of

I don't think I would be able to drive over there to be honest with you! We went to Florida last year and used the I Ride Trolley's on International Drive - I got confused with the roads just sitting on the trolley - i'd be terrible driving over there, and my partner doesn't drive which doesn't help.

As for purchasing the licence before we go, i'm a bit wary of that! (sound like a wimp in this thread don't I?!)

Red, i was told you didn't have to be resident in Florida or any amount of time to be able to get married. We are planning on getting the licence on the
Monday and getting married on the Wednesday, will this be ok?? We will be in Florida from the Saturday before so will be in Florida at least 3 days before the wedding.

Lisa,

We are in exactly the same position as you! We arrive on Saturday and get married on Wednesday. In the Virgin brochure it says that you have to be resident in Florida for 3 working days. but we have been assured by virgin (200% assurance) that our residency will be fine. We were hoping to get the licence on the Monday also.

Lisa, you don't have to be resident in Florida for any amount of time provided neither of you are florida residents. How daft does that sound ;-). There are waiting periods or marriage preparation course requirements for Florida residents but none for UK folks.

There was a myth that said there was a 3 day residence requirement but again, not for UK folks although a lot of websites said there was.

We got into Orlando about 1am on the Friday, Got the marriage license at 11am on the friday (yawning all the way :) and got married at 4pm on the Saturday

keith is right if neither of you are florida residents there is no waiting time

kate how about if the taxi ride cost is too much
how about putting it on the wedding present list
you could also put the licence on the list too

i am sure people would be happy to help you start married life in this way

i know if it was my friends list with that on i would feel honourd to buy that i would feel i had really had a big part in the wedding.

just a thought hope it helps

Hi all, thanks for the advice on the "residency period". This is something that has been bothering me.

We fly into Orlando on Sun 10th Oct. We cant get our licence on Mon 11th as this is Columbus Day, a bank holiday, and the court will be closed.

So we have to get ours on the Tuesday, before getting married on the Wednesday.

I have phoned Virgin about 3 times re this and each time they say will be absolutely fine, but now you guys have put my mind at rest.

Thanks!

Lorraine

PS- Redkop, I saw your site with the photos of Cypress Grove Park! Wicked!
