I looked through Disneyland's forward planner and it seems that Fantasmic is not on whilst we are there (23 - 27 Sept) There also seems like a lot of re-habs are going on, haven't picked a good time to go have I :(

There is still much to do WendyL! Although missing Fantasmic is hard, isn't it? :( I think you will enjoy your visit overall. California has a zillion other things to do! :D Enjoy!

Wendy,
I was considering going 26 Sept - 1 October. There will be a special event party at DL on 29/30 Sept (Haunted Mansion Holiday Event (http://psc.disney.go.com/eventservices/disneygallery/event_disneyland3417.html)
I believe the HM will be closed until 1 Oct while they re-do it in the Nightmare Before Christmas decor. However, it will be open for this special ticketed event on the 30th. (They have different level of packages--all are currently sold out except for the ZERO'S CHRISTMAS TREE Event Package)
I believe in Sept., the Castle will also be undergoing renovations for the 50th anniversary celebration. :(
List of attractions Closed for Refurbishment:
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Enchanted Tiki Room & Tiki Juice Bar
Haunted Mansion Holiday Install
Mad Tea Party
Matterhorn Bobsleds
Sailing Ship Columbia
Space Mountain
Fantasmic has become a seasonal event --mostly just in the summertime. I was wondering if next year, they will extend the season for DL's 50th?
There will still be loads to do at DL when you are going, but it is always disappointing when there are attractions that are unique to DL that you won't be able to go on (like the Matterhorn Bobsleds).

Man, that would really stink to miss Fantasmic! I just got home at 3:30am this morning after an 18+ hour drive from Anaheim (to Olympia, WA) and we are still talking about (and watching my video of) Fantasmic! We enjoyed it the first night we went to DL that the day we went to CA we went back to DL at night to see it again! It is truly something cool! So glad I got to finally experience it!
