View Full Version : my way of displaying my pins!

On our last trip to WDW I noticed them selling these cute but small cork board racks to display your pins. I couldn't believe I'd never thought of that! I've always been looking for a way to do something with them when we aren't at WDW rather than having them stuck away in the book or on a lanyard in the closets. I bought a $9 cork board at Kmart this weekend & put a few on there. EEEEEE!! It looks so good! I just did one row because my DH stopped me because he still has to nail in the little hooks to be able to hang it. But I'm just dying to fill it up now because I think it's going to be so cute!
Does anyone think this is a bad idea for any reason?? Dust a factor?? I'm ready to go get 3 more so each person in the family can do this. :sun:

On returning from my last trip, with my haul of pins, I bought a large cork board. I then had a lovely photo, that I had taken, of the Castle enlarged.
I stuck this into the centre of the corkboard and put my pins around it. It is a lovely display and makes me smile every time I look at it. :sun:

We did that for Lois too. We bought a cork board and painted it pink to match her room then she stuck all her pins on there, much better than having full lanyards everywhere!

Does anyone have a picture of their display boards?
(Could we see a picture? pretty please? :) )

A lot of creative solutions!
I don't collect WDW pins, but I have a large jewelry collection that usually is stuffed away in chests. I have some stick pins from the 70s and early 80s, as well as some that belonged to my grandmother early in the 20th century and my mother in the 30s and 40s.
I bought an open shadow box, made a backing of cardboard covered by batting and velvet, made a door with a glass insert and keep the pins in there. I liked it so much that I made another one for my holiday pins!
They actually make them with the glass doors now, but it's much less expensive to DIY!

You also could make a board using thin wood or heavy cardboard, cover it in fabric, criss-cross ribbons on it (diamond pattern looks nice) and attach the pins to the ribbons, which would allow you to keep the backs with them. Then you can insert photos into the stretched ribbons!
Did this for Leu's DD when she was in high school a about 15 years ago and her parents got tired of her pushing pins in the walls (her corkboard was full) for her photos. Made about 10 of them in different colors (her choice), and she developed a theme for each.
She has made some for her DD's room in their new house!

Great ideas! I love the photo one Taja....in my spare time, I may have to try something new. I'm wishing I had something cool to put my pins on besides lanyards, bags, boxes, totes, they're everywhere!

Nice pins wdwgrandma! Loved the corkboard. That's what I'm working on now. I also like the idea of a photo in the center. I also thought about printing all of our names up in some fancy font on nice thick paper, cutting it out & putting it on the cork board. I also wanted two find a website or something that would have the Pin Trader logo that I could copy & print up. Anyone know?

I didn't use a cork board but used several cork "hot pot" trivets. Covered with different fabric and then just hung on the wall with double stick poster tape (live in apt and don't want to patch too many holes when I leave)!
My mothers are done in the same way without the fabric...but hung over her ironing board so she has something to look at when she is ironing.
The cool thing about using the trivets is that it looks very geometric and as my collection grows I just add another trivet!
Plus...I wear them to work quite often! Don't mess with me if I am wearing the Evil Queen!

How do your pins stay on the cork board as you can't put the backing on them.

They just stay! The cork is thick enough that it holds the pins - even the heaviest ones like the Magical Moments light-up pins.

wdwgrandma I did notice you had the magical moments pins on there too. I had decided not to even try mine but I saw yours seem to be doing ok so mine will go on too! I wish they'd light up every now & then. Wouldnt' that be cool! I guess not to many Magical Moments outside of WDW, eh?

I have not had one pin fall off! And those Magical Moments pins are quite bulky!
a few magical moments outside WDW would be nice right about now...

I just bought my kids the BIG bags at WDW for the pins...I love the cork board idea too, although with all their pins, it could take forever to dust them :rotfl:
This part is OT...Good Luck on your move Junior Mickey...we live in NH...I am originally from the Northshore area of MA...

I just bought my kids the 1/2 size corkboards as they couldn't bare the thought of sharing a full size one. One has 115 & the other has 96. They fit very well on the 1/2 size boards w/still plenty of room to add more. I thought I had a lot of pins until I started putting them on the board. I only have a mear 78, I thinks me needs to buy more in October!! heeheehee

I'm not sure if the magical moments pins would still work either. Does anyone else know?? I've not had mine back since the year we bought them. Well, I take that back, I took them the next year but batteries were dead & I wasn't about to pay their price for those tiny expensive batteries. Since then we just keep forgetting about them. They also worked on some rides too. PotC is the one that stands out in my mind the most.
