I just got some old Disney Magic Kingdom Club magazines from ebay. One of the cover stories was about the Disney Ambassadors for 1988. Do they still do that? I never hear anything about them now. If they don't I wonder when & why they stopped. I would have been 20 in 1988 & I just kept thinking how cool that would have been!

What do the ambassadors do? Greet people in the parks or what?

These Ambassadors mainly represent WDW during official public appearances.

They are the official hosts of the WDW. They act as spokespersons for the WDW in local events such as United Way, Red Cross. They are also part of the entourage for Michael Eisner during his visits and the main point of contact when government officials and otehr VIPs visit the parks. They also act as moderators during Press Events throughout the year.

Was that two mens names in the bunch SorcererMickey?? Wow, the times they are a-changin! I thought it was only us chicks that stood a chance at that! LOL The article I read said they had an ambassador from each park: WDW, DL & TDL. I guess that's what they still do but why no DLP? And they traveled all over the world, visiting childrens hospitals & officials of foreign countries, etc. putting across the message of Disney & such.

Things do change, and there were as many as 9 in 1995, the first year they had a team, not just a single ambassador.

When I was about 10 or so I thought it would be great to be the Disneyland Ambassador (no WDW yet at that time). By age 12, I realized public speaking was not my area of interest! :hehe:

DLP isn't owned by Disney outright, BT. They aren't the majority share holders.

That's true, but TDL isn't "owned" by Disney either, it's owned by OLC (Oriental Land Company) and they still have an Ambassador.

Youko Inuzuka

(Joke coming...)
DLP is just doing so bad that maybe they cannot afford to and maybe do not want to have somebody answering questions they would not have answers to. :rotfl:

I know this question came up several months ago, but I'm new to the site and wanted to weigh in. Actually, every Disney Resort around the world has at least one Ambassador, including Disneyland Resort Paris. In 2004, the DRP Ambassador was Samira Boulamlouj. Here are the worldwide Ambassadors for 2005:
Disneyland Resort - Becky Phelps and Andrae Rivas
Walt Disney World - Christopher White, Rebecca Godsil and Jeannie Amendola
Tokyo Disney Resort - Tomoko Nishikawa
Disneyland Resort Paris - Elena Fumagalli
Hong Kong Disneyland - Angela To

2005 is the the 40th Anniversary of the Ambassador Program. Walt Disney selected the very first Ambassador, Julie Riehm, to represent Disneyland during its 10th Anniversary in 1965.

The Ambassador role has changed considerably since its inception. Today, approximately 80% of the Ambassador's time is spent with Cast Members, honoring them for special recognition, and educating Cast Members on the history and heritage of the organization through a wide variety of presentations which are created by the Ambassadors themselves. The remaining 20% of the Ambassador's time is spent in media interviews, community events or Guest events (i.e. Hospital Visits, Media Trips, Ribbon Cuttings, etc.)

In 1995, the first Ambassador Teams were selected in California and Florida. That was also the first year that male Ambassadors were selected, although they had been allowed to apply since the 1980s.

The Ambassadors are selected from a very competitive pool of Cast Members each year, and are ulimately chosen by the President of their Disney Resort.
