Hi there
I wondered if anyone has any feedback on the Arabian Nights and Pirate Adventure Dinner shows???
Kind Regards

I was really disappointed with Arabian nights. I thought it was expensive for what it was, the food was absolutely dreadful and the organisation poor.
I should say, I LOVE dinner shows and I'm used to dinner show food not being the best but they gave us 1 slice of fairly poor beef and I think a potatoe. Can't remember completely now but I remember everyone commenting how poor it was.
Unlike some shows, the action was happening whilst we were eating so I was looking down, hearing the audience clap and looking up having missed whatever it was that happened.
The horsies :) are of course magnificent and the stars of the show but forget the story, it's just there to allow a horsie show to take place.
We were warned by Virgin holidays before we went in that we would be pestered for tips and "if you can't afford it, be firm". I thought, odd? why say that.. well they say that because near the end, the servers all came round with IMHO quite a rude little note saying that service was to be rewarded by 15/20%. Then the servers stood at the end of each seating row between us and the exit. The pretence was that they were there to say bye, but of course they weren't moving until each person gave them cash.
If you LOVE horsies, then it may be worth a go, but I found it very disappointing.
The best dinner show I've ever been to in Orlando is the hoop dee doo at Disney.

Becky, welcome! I wish I could answer your question about dinner shows. We've not done any of them.
However, I would ask that you don't post in colors other than black. This is because many of our members use style sets where colors don't really show up. However, using colors in your signature or in the Birthdays and Celebrations forum is ok. And when you post in colors that people have trouble reading, you are not going to get the answers you hope for. And that is the whole purpose of posting! LOL
If you haven't had the opportunity, please scroll to the top of your screen and click on links "Forum Guidelines" and "Message Board Do's and Don'ts" to become acquainted with our site guidelines.
Thanks!

We had never done a dinner show until this last trip. We did Hoop de doo and LOVED it! The jokes were corny, but the food was very good....

Well, if you are talking about Disney dinner shows, we've done Hoop Dee Doo twice and loved it both times! And we'll be doing it again June 2006!

I have to say I really enjoyed the Makahiki Luau at SeaWorld.... although take my advice and don't pull faces at the male dancers unless of course you want to be pulled up to dance with them on stage at the end.....

Although we haven't dined at the one in Orlando, we did go to the Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, TN. The food was ok. No silverware, which meant I actually had to TOUCH my chicken or potatoes... yuck...
The show was filled with lots of music and horses, and there was a competition between the North and the South - you were part of one or the other based on where you sat. For example, there was a pig racing event. One piggie was from the North, the other from the South. The winner of the race scored "points" for their team.

We tried the one in orlando just after it opened.
Again, even if it doesn't sound like it ;-), I like dinner shows whilst on holiday. Turn off brain, watch and eat at the same time.
The dixie stampede was "ok". Not as good as the hoop dee doo (not by a long way) but not as bad as arabian nights.
The horsie stuff was good fun, presentation quite exciting... but I found I was bored of it before the end. Like Donna, I wasn't impressed with having to eat with my hands. I know that sounds kinda stuffy but these were potatoes with herbs and things on them and they just didn't seem to me to be hand eatable things ;-) Quality of the food.. on a dinner show scale with hoop dee doo being 9/10 and arabian nights being 2/10.... dixie stampede was about a 4/10.
If you can get a decent discount, if you can get a good seat. If you can get there for cheap (if you have a car for eg.) etc... and you have an evening spare, yeah sure go for it.
One more thing, at the end, we wandered out and there were *no* taxis. Zero. So we went back in to ask someone. There were no public phones and no one would call us a taxi "the manager doesnt allow us to make calls". We waited another hour. No taxis, everyone had gone and there were 5 other parties waiting for taxis. We went back in and demanded they get a manager to call for some taxis... she grudgingly did and in the end gave us a choice of cuddly toy for our trouble. Soooooo take a cell phone or arrange for a taxi to come back for you later.

Yeah, I'm not big on having to eat without silverware - tearing apart the chicken (yes, they bring you a whole one...) and picking up slices of roast pork. At least the soup bowl had a handle... Ask John... About the only things I'll pick up and eat with my fingers - willingly - are BBQ ribs.
Hoop Dee Doo is far preferable, in my opinion!

Awful...
This was just the worst dinner show we have been to, food was really bad and it wasn't all that entertaining either!

We did Sleuths - food (like a lot of these places) is not what you'd call brilliant (choice of cornish hen, lasagne or prime rib) but the dessert was nice. Free drinks all night by the way!!!
The show was pretty entertaining in all truth, but a word of advice (and i dont think i'm giving anything away) you've got to keep an eye on the smallest of details if you fancy yourself as a budding detective. I suggest watching plenty of Johnathan Creek episodes before you go!!!

Was it bags of enforced audience participation? or could you sit quietly and guess without being too involved?

Not too much to be honest - certainly not in the show we saw (there are several different shows - one for each night of the week) but the audience are "part" of the show in so much that the murder was based around a dinner event and we were "part" of the dinner (if you see what i mean!) So there was a bit of participation as some people got picked on for wearing dodgy shirts, table full of elderly women became known as The Golden Girls and that sort of thing!!!
However each table in the room has to ask the suspects one question. As there were only four of us, we were therefore sharing a table with another party of four ... so inevitably you have to start swapping ideas before you can ask the question (and you can guarantee that another table will ask the same question before you so get some more prepared)
It made a change to the usual "eating out" night just dont expect the same standard of food

Thanks Pete!
I've heard some good things about a dinner show based around a wedding party? but dunno :)

We did both Arabian Nights and The Pirate Adventure Dinner shows. We have young kids and they both enjoyed the Pirate Aventure Dinner show over Arabian Nights. They both had a part in the Pirate show and had a ball. The food at both shows was not all that great but we knew this before we went and basically went for the shows. The horses were amazing in the Arabian Night but the kids became bored before the show ended. If you have kids, I would definitely recommend the Pirate Adventure Dinner show over Arabian Nights.

Capone's is fantastic, it's a buffet style meal, with free drinks, beer and soda. And they really try and get the crowd involved, as you go in, you have to say a secret password so that you can get through the door, it's kinda like a grown up bugsy Malone....
