I'm so glad that it's time to start planning again and asking questions! :)
We are going 05/05 with a group of 12 +/- adults and 4 children. As a group, we would like to have a dinner show and Hoop Dee Doo is out. We did that on our last trip and Medieval Times and we would like to try a new one. The luau has mixed reviews and I don't think the food would suit the little ones, so we were wondering about Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Has anyone done it? I am having a hard time finding out what people think. Hoop Dee Doo was great and Fort Wilderness is such a relaxing atmosphere, but some of the kids didn't like the food. (I LOVED it) So, I was hoping someone who's been would let me know what they thought.
Also, it will be our 13th wedding anniversary and although we haven't talked much about it, I would like to try to sneak away for a dinner just the two of us. For high romance, what do you think? Other than V&A's, I know that seems the obvious choice, but I don't know if it may be too fancy. Thanks!!

I think our Keith has done the Backyard BBQ. If he doesn't see this and reply, you could drop him a PM.
There are any number of wonderful restaurants to have a lovely adult dinner in. Have you considered Jiko? The ambience would lend itself to intimacy and the food is incredible. They have the largest wine list of wonderful South African wines in the United States! Although I didn't get to the desserts (just too full) they had some selections that sounded heavenly.
Nearly every resort hotel on WDW property (the deluxes, with the exception of the Boardwalk) will have at least one nice restaurant, giving you much to choose from.
Don't overlook the Swan and Dolphin. There are a number of nice restaurants between those two resorts.
But my vote is for Jiko: The Cooking Place at AKL! :D

DO NOT DO PIRATES DINNER SHOW.
Mickey's Backyard BBQ is a great night out. We did it in October 2004. You get the chance to dance with Micky, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. Although there are lots of kids, it is not too busy and the characters stay all night. You will get a dance, photo and autograph.
Line dancing and cowboy rope tricks are great entertainment.
Beer, wine and soft drinks available all evening.
Food is typical BBQ, chicken, ribs, hot dogs, mac cheese, corn on the cob. There is also a lovely US stars & strips cake for dessert.
You will not be dissappointed and is excellent value for money. We are going back in 2005. It is only on a Tuesday and Thursday, so might be advisable to book, think in February.

I did the Back Yard BBQ this October with a 10 year old. The food was really good, the characters arrived before we went in to the BBQ and it was a great opportunity to take pictures and get their autographs. The BBQ itself is really good fun, lots of dancing and plenty to drink for the adults. It was such fun, Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale, Goofy were all there and it was an absolute blast, give it a go. For an evening for 2 I really like the Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club, although there are childen there it is a lovely place to go, food is excellent, doesn't seem to get very crowded, waiters very attentive, altogether one of my favourite restaurants.

We are going without children, do you think the backyard bbq is family orientated to the extent we might feel out of place or do you think its ok for two adults? My hubby loves all those kinds of foods!

The evening will depend on your attitude to it. If you're happy to let your hair down and get up and dance you'll have a ball. There were quite a few adults-only when we went and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It's like a giant character meal, the characters will interact with everyone and it's just as much fun watching people trying to line dance as well as giving it a go yourself. The food and drink never stop and we came away tired but having had a really fun time.

Keep in mind that Mickey's BBQ is held outdoors and will be cancelled if it rains
The Luau has children's items available on the menu like mac & cheese, chicken tenders, pizza, etc
The Hoop de doo also has these items if you request them

It is not totally outdoors, it is in what can be called a barn, thus it has a roof and open sides. If it rained you would probably only get wet if you were on bench close to the edge.
The line dancing is complicated and hence more focused to adults. There was more adults up dancing throughout the night than wee kids!
