I have been sent through the driving directions by Virgin but they seem very a little confusing.

This is what they are saying:-

(Total driving distance from Los Angeles Airport approximately 35/40 miles)

Leaving Dollar Car Rental depots turn right into Arbor Vitae and drive to the second traffic light. This road will be marked as Aviation. Turn right into Aviation and proceed through the next 3 sets of traffic lights crossing over Century Blvd, until you reach the 4th set of lights. This will be marked as Imperial Highway.

When you reach Imperial Highway you will see above you the 105 Freeway overpass. Move into the second lane from the left and turn left at Imperial Highway. Proceed immediately into the right hand lane and follow the signs leading onto the 105 Freeway EAST. Take the 105 Freeway EAST and drive for approximately 16 miles until you reach the end of the Freeway. You will see the only direction to go is San Gabriel Freeway (605) NORTH/SOUTH. Proceed on the 605 SOUTH for approximately 2 miles and take the Riverside Freeway 91 EAST. Continue on Freeway 91 for approximately 7-10 miles.

Join the Santa Ana Freeway 5 South (direction Santa Ana), drive approximately 5 – 6 miles. Exit Freeway at Katella Avenue and head west towards Disneyland. Continue to the traffic lights and Harbor Blvd and turn left. Continue over the lights at Orangewood Avenue and the Hilton Garden Inn is on your right.

I know from past experience that they normally send you the long way around and as we will be on the road about 4pm when it will no doubt be very busy, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a better way.

We are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, 11777 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove 92840

Can anyone help, please.

You could try typing the addresses into Yahoo Maps and see what they come up with

This is a link from Disney.com, it is the maps and transportation page.

Disney.com - Directions to Disneyland (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dlr/transportation/index)

On the left side of the screen, choose the airport you will be arriving to from the pull down menu and it will give you detailed directions. The car rental office will also give you a map and highlight the route for you.

My simple solution:

1) Rent a car from Hertz and make sure it is equiped with the "Never Lost" system.

2) Program in directions for Disneyland Park and the hotel you will be staying in.

3) Follow the directions the "Never Lost" system gives you.

4) Shake Mikey's hand and say "Hi" to him for me.

I have used this system for several years in the cities I have visited, while promoting my business. I even used one of these systems in a very familiar city (San Jose, California) just to test it. This machine showed me a couple short cuts through town that *I* didn't even know about! I decided to ignore the voice and made a couple wrong turns, just to see what it would do. It patiently got me on track, while not calling me an idiot  , but it did sound dissapointed with me, that I could not follow simple directions.

Hertz isn't the cheapest rental car out there but the extra money spent is well worth the saved aggrivation of navigating through a strange city. Even if you don't get lost. In fact, the journey from the airport to your destination becomes almost fun with one of those things in the car. I won't rent a car with out one now and I arrive where ever I am supposed to, with out getting lost, on time, and relaxed.

Hope this helps.

Wendy L,
Here is a link to the Hilton Garden Grove/directions (http://www.hiltongardeninn.com/en/gi/hotels/directions.jhtml;jsessionid=S43PER1LQXVDUCSGBIW2VC QKIYFCVUUC?ctyhocn=SNAGGGI)

"Directions: Take the San Diego Freeway South (405) to the Garden Grove Freeway East (22), exit Harbor Blvd - North, go one mile, past Champman Avenue, hotel is on the left. "

We generally take the 405 to get to DL from LAX. But, I will caution you that it will probably be pretty jammed up at 4:00pm in the afternoon. (When we lived near LAX years ago, I did not like to plan to be on the 405 after about 2pm in the afternoon until about 7pm at night :) ). I would allow at least an hour to get there at that time of the day.

I can't say if I-5 will be any better at that time of the day. I will say one thing for taking I-5, the exit off of I-5 is closer to DL (but your hotel is actually in Garden Grove which is south of DL).

The first time we went to DL via the Garden Grove freeway and took our exit, I remember that it seemed like it was a looong way on street traffic (with traffic lights and so on) to get to DL--there was that nagging doubt, did we take the correct exit? That is until we actually caught sight of DL! :)
