As Virgin is re-fitting most of their Orlando planes just now, they may have changed the plane you fly out/back on. I checked my pre-booked seats this morning on-line and had been bumped off my nice 2 back seats on the outward journey from LGW and been put in 30 something!!!! :grrr:
Of course, somebody had already bagged my nice 2 back seats and I could only get 63A & 63C.
Inward journey wasn't affected. Hopefully we'll have a nice V-Port entertainment system on the journey to Orlando. :Plane:

That's bad luck :( . Don't see why they had to bump you if seat numbers are still the same  .

Ours are still ok, thanks WQ. Is it just Gatwick planes being refitted?

BTW, November movie preview-
http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/whatsonboard/inflightentertainment/futurefilms.jsp
Was hoping Bridget Jones might be showing, but it's not listed. Not many family type films, hopefully that's not all they'll be showing :(

Just been reading about this, WQ. Flights vs 15-16 are old planes,vs 27-28 are new planes in dec , Jan. As usual, Virgin have been giving different answers to different people.........

I looked at the movies too, Joanne.
I'd have thought they'd add a kids movie before then, wouldn't you.

I'd like to se De-lovely, that looks good. Not sure about the others.
Having said all that, Virgin is a bit like Disney...changes on a whim.

BAWAWAWAWAW!!! I want my seats back.:tears:

What would I need to say to check-in staff to get those nice emergency exit seats? :sigh: Anyone got them?

Wendy

Phone up 2 days before you travel, WQ and request them. It worked for me....

You would need to turn up at check-in early - like the night before - and proclaim yourself to be a fully fit person over 16 and more than capable of understanding how to open that door next to your seat in an emergency.

Seriously, if you're doing the twilight check-in get there early and ask for them.

We got them once on account of being a bit tall. Wear 6" platform soles and you'll be a sure thing.

Emergency exit seats are only allocated at check-in to healthy people.

Do you have your tickets or booking reference, Dianne? If so, you can do it on-line.

Bawawawaw!! I've got no-one to pick on, on my flight!! :( Someone come on my plane. :overhere:

I shall pitch up at 3.30pm the day before at Twilight Check-in and feign healthiness. Yeah! I can do healthy! :exercise: :weights: I can open emergency doors. :gairy: Give us a seat Mrs. Virgin Atlantic Lady. :D

Thanks nut - don't have the actual tickets yet - just the flight number and time which is what I used to book the seats many moons ago :)
Ok, I would imagine I will have to wait until morning now before I ring. Hope my seats are still there with my name on them

Aw! WQ, how miffing for you! Mind you, wish someone would put me in 30 something - at least agewise!!
Kilted - sometimes the programmes are not always catering for the age ranges that usually fly in and out of Florida are they! When we last came home with Virgin, one of the documentaries late at night was how to make a home porn movie. I only noticed when I checked my sons screen to see what he was so wrapped up in - I thought he was watching Thomas and the Magic Railway (!) I wrote and complained on my return to" Vergin' on the rude" Atlantic whose only reply (nearly 2 months later) was to say it was their duty to put on a variety of documentaries, films and music to cater for all age ranges and tastes and pointed out to me it was on very late in the evening/early hours of the morning when most children would be asleep. Theyve obviously never been on a homeward journey back from Disney!! So, watch out for Derek and Clive get the horn soon to be showing at a virgin seat near you :(

And I thought My travel playing Cold Mountain on the way home from our last trip was bad. It seems that the airlines don't seem to care that there are certain things parents would rather not let their children see. I ended up being sat in my seat, with my hood pulled right over my head, so that i didn't have to watch the big screen that was infront of me.

Whitequeen, you should write a complaint letter to Virgin, telling them how dissapointed you are with their customer service skills. They should have re booked those seats for you.

Glad you put this post up. Just checked my seats and have found them moved from the back to row 30! As there are two of us traveling we don't want to be squished next to some stranger for 8 odd hours! Have changed the seats and have got row 61, they were the only two left. Does not seem fair when you arrange your holiday early to get the options you want, just to find out Virgin changes it with out telling you.

I couldn't either, Steve.

Now I don't know whether to ring or just wait until we get to check-in.

If they are changing the seats without telling anyone it seems rather pointless trying to book them in the first place..:(

Steve, if it's the bulkhead seats they've promised, they won't show up on the seating allocation yet. I believe they only allocate them the night before to those who have requested them for medical reasons, or those who need a 'skycot' for babies. Any left over after that are allocated first come, first served at check-in.
I'm presuming that's what you mean by front row seats :)
Have you requested them through Virgin's special assistance dept?

Whitequeen
October 6th, 2004, 15:21
Unfortunately Virgin have more than covered themselves for this eventually. When you pre-book seats it clearly says, albiet in the small print, that they can change them whenever they want. It's not the end of the world! NOT having a seat at all would be the end of the world.:cry2:

yes i have booked it through special assistance
by front row i meant the very front row in the plane

the reason we have had them allocate those is that we need a special in seat seat , if that makes sense , to support heather
we did think about a sky cot for oli but as he is 18 months we are told he is too old . and anyway if we do want to take advantage of row 6 there are no places to fix sky cots there .

also getting back to the main thread i think the main reason that they are changing the seats is that they are rolling out the uc suites and that entails changing some of the planes .
i am not 100% sure but if i get it right
when a LGW plane goes to be re fitted they replace it with a LHR plane
the seating on the LHR planes is totally different , there fore they have to change the seats around a bit .

i get this sort of info from the virgin boards

http://www.virginflyer.com/forum/default.asp

you will have to sign up if you want to use them but they are a real friendly lot just like here .

hope that helps

3 of mine have gone as well!!

Kindly, Virgin have allocated Mum a nice row with both the children 20 rows away and DH and I still have the cosy two seat row at the back..HOORAH :D .

However enticing that scenario sounds, I can see me having to tinker with the arrangement somewhat!

One tip I was told by a member of Virgin staff, is that for your return flight, stop at the Virgin Customer Services on the way OUT and book your seats. These are almost always honoured, as for some reason, people dont bother so much on the return leg.

October 6th, 2004, 19:02
We checked ours and they're still booked, so I don't think any Manchester flights are changing yet. We've got all row 1 booked and my Mum and step dad are booked in 63 I think. :)

when we first went we were all a lot further forward and mum and dad were at the back
but in those days theystill allowed you to smoke on planes and my dad would not be parted from his ciggys

Unfortunately this is the game we play with Virgin. The only advice I can give is check your seats online often and get to check-in early. They're not guaranteed so there is no comeback on Virgin.

Keith
October 10th, 2005, 16:36
mine are ok at the moment but it's a bit of a pain having to check everyday and hey if they ARE changed, what can we do about it anyway! there's rarely any seats left on the online system to change back to :( and last time when I phoned them they basically said tough you'll have to try at checkin.

sigh

They often move couples to make sure families are sat together.

October 10th, 2005, 19:48
So do we know if this is just concerning Gatwick?

PaulaK
October 10th, 2005, 19:56
They can change any seats on any flight. They have to sit families together. I'm sure no-one would appreciate having to look after some strangers kid for 9 hours! :hehe:

DLacey
October 10th, 2005, 23:42
Seats just aren't guaranteed. Twice we have reserved them online only to find at check in we had been moved!

October 13th, 2005, 12:10
Glad I read this post as we've just booked our seats on-line. Wasn't much choice left either :(

The "familys should sit together" statement can be interpreted in a number of ways by the airline as well.

I have two youngsters and as a family we flew back from Orlando this April and nearly all the seats were already allocated. I don't drive and we stayed at POR. We didn't use the DTD check in and was at the airport at the time arranged by VH and their pick ups. Both myself and my youngest managed to get a couple of seats next to each other. My wife was a dozen rows behind us and my other son was sitting next to two strangers in a seat in front of my wife. Therefore, a family sitting together doesn't have to be directly next to each other but can be directly in front or behind.
