We are going in December. My 8 year old daughter keeps asking me what Mission space is like. I have checked it out on the Disney website but I still don't really have an idea what it's really like. Can someone give me a good explanation?:overhere:

If I have got the right one, Mission space is a simulated rocket ride. You go into a 4 seat cockpitand then the controls come down towards you. It is quite claustrophobic if you dont like small spaces.
You will feel quite strong G force as the rocket takes off. The rocket takes you in a sling shot around the moon and lands on Mars. You must NOT close your eyes or you will feel very queezy. There is a trial capsule at the entrance to see if you can cope with the cockpit.
Hope this helps. Anything else you want to know just ask.
Have a wonderful time.

Hi Snard!
Mission Space is such a cool ride. I have Meniers Disease, I get dizzy so easy and can't handle turning my head fast much less spinning in a circle. But Mission Space didn't bother me much! I just kept my eyes forward and focused on the screen and I did just great. Of course, I didn't eat before or after I did this ride, but it was so worth it!
Shogun is right about the small space, but the trick is to NOT look around while you're on this ride...you'll get confused and dizzy.

If you like powerful simulators you should enjoy this ride but as I just said DONT close your eyes. Dave(L37)

Mission Space is IMHO one of the most awesome rides at WDW. The lift off is spectacular and I can only imagine what it must really be like to be an astronaut.

Big One in blackpool is great. Been on it 4 or 5 times. Went on Kracken last month. Learned something new:- I dont do upsidedown rides.

I would like to do Kraken again when it isn't raining. It started coming down hard just as they released our car and when I got off I was soaked to the skin.

I loved Kraken!!! We rode it four times in a row and did get off a little dizzy the last time but still... mission space is a really fun ride and it doesn't make you sick. But don't ride it if youre dehydrated or haven't eaten all day.. It'll give you a big headache if you do that. Also the first time is kinda intense but after that its not hard to handle at all.. It's a really cool simulator. Best I've been on. Oh and I'm clostrophobic (Can't spell) and it really didn't bother me at all.. but then again I'm only 15 dunno how it'll affect you old ppl ;)

I'm afraid to try this but would love to see or should I say feel what it's like. I got sick in the Canada movie and Body works or whatever it was called in Epcot. Only rode that once. I really want to try it but also don't want to feel sick all day either.

If you get queasy riding star tours or body wars then Mission:Space is probably not for you. It is actually spinning around at about 35mph but you don't feel it because your brain doesn't know you're spinning (hence the make sure you look ahead and don't close your eyes, fail to follow either of those rules and your brain isn't tricked anymore). I've ridden it 4 times in a row but by the fourth time even I was feeling a little weird (not queasy, just weird). But hey, if you don't wanna ride it you can always go wait at Mission:Space Race!

We rode Mission Space last year right after it opened and totally loved it!! Made the mistake of riding Test Track after it so kind of disappointed after the thrill MS gave us. We rode it again twice this year and very surprised by the change in the announcements they have added since a year ago and the sickness bags in the cockpit. Last year they told you maybe once or twice not to look from side to side or close your eyes and I didn't remember them tellin you it was a spinning ride either of course they might have, but I don't think I would have gotten on and eagerly as I did. I can't even look at the spinning tea cups without feeling sick:lol:. But I would definitely give it a try. I love it! Make sure you don't look around and don't look away! I can see where that you make a person sick! Also if you don't want to look to push the buttons they do light up or you can skip it!
On a side note Kraken at Sea World is also a great ride! Rode that many times in a row and sat in the front seat and the very last both great!

just got back from wdw last week and tried mission space for the first time. Definitely dont shut your eyes and the feelings you get are real!!

My 8 and 6 year old kids and husband loved it, Ive done it once but that was enough (not as much as the lady in the car next to ours who got off carrying her FULL sick bag)

You have to try it even if its just the once, as my husband told me 'its only a ride'.

This is by far the best ride in Epcot.....if not possibly all the Disney theme parks.

DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES.

The feeling when your shuttle takes off is amazing and you actually feel like you are in an actual take-off.

Both our sons (9 & 5) went on this a number of times it was so good.

John, I went on early and the g-forces were stronger.

BevW
December 10th, 2004, 18:36
So it's stronger in the morning and weaker in the evening? Am I reading this wrong?
I do know I loved it, but I'm only gonna ride it that one time...I'm not risking barfing...as my DGD's so lovingly call it.

Disney lessened the intensity after it first opened last year so it is not as intense as it once was

You didn't see all the people I saw coming off looking GREEN!!!! It was sad. That's why everyone in my group was so afraid when I said I was gonna ride! Having motion sickness tends to make one very leary about spinning rides. But it was cool!

I loved Mission Space! It felt so real, Only problem was someone in our ship was so scared they didn't push any button so we had a bit of a carsh landing. I was with 3 people who lived in edinburgh like me! I'd say it was one of the best rides in Disney
