Hi everyone! I'm looking at getting my first digital camera for holiday coming up in 3 weeks. I have been looking at the Olympus MJU410. From what i can see it looks pretty good but just wanted to see if anyone has used this or knows if its good or not. I've also heard that with digital cameras there is a delay when taking the picture, that they are not so good for taking moving images! Can anyone help me with this as i'm all confused?!
Thanks!

I have got a Minolta digi camera and yes there is a bit of a delay when you press the button, but then I found that was the case with my old "proper" camera too.
I have found though that if you press the button half way down in preparation, pressing it from that position means there is much less of a delay. If that makes sense!
My digi camera is 4 megapixels and we've been really pleased with the quality of the video clips we've taken with it.
I don't know anything about the model you mentioned but it is definitely worth going digital as you can store sooo many pics on one memory card, and the quality is much better! :)

There does tend to be a shutter lag on most lower priced digitals at the moment although it's getting better(shorter) with every new model. You can indeed get used to it the more you use the camera and by aiming, half pressing the button you can get the camera to do all its processing, then by pressing the button all the way down, it'll take the shot with little or no pause.
They're fine for taking moving images therefore it's just you need to plan the shot a little more. What many people find annoying at the start is that there is often a startup delay as well when you turn the camera on. Sometimes only a second or two, but that mixed with the shutter lag means that you can't leave it turned off then grab it, aim at a parade and fire. Honestly, it's something you'll get used to very quickly and it won't be a problem but it's another reason to practice with it before you go on holiday.
I wasn't TOO impressed with the olympus you mentioned :/ when I tested it I thought the controls were a bit confused and the images I got from it were a bit noisy. *BUT* thats just me.... it's well worth seeing if you can test one in real life to see what you think.

Thanks for the info! I have a 'normal' camera too which i will also be taking (my friend is borrowing it) which is a Kodak camera. The only reason why i was looking at the Olympus is a few people have told me they are good, and they look nice too. What makes are generally the good makes i.e. what would you buy for general use? But not the big cameras though!!!!

Canon/Nikon are both excellent for general use as well as "big" ;-) Sony are pretty good too.. panasonic.... to be honest it's not so much whole makes, it's really a question of which models since every manufacturer has some stars and some erm less than great models in their line up

The best advice is just to get one, then get out there and shoot everything you can! in the dark, inside, outside, daytime, evening time etc :) get to REALLY know the camera

Well i got a Nikon coolpix 5200, and been getting to know it for the last week, and have to say that i love it so far. Still a bit weird using a digital instead of the 'old' style of cameras, but i'm getting used to it, its quite an easy one to use. Just wanted to say thanks again for the advice from Keith!
