Some of the newbies of Fla might not remember or know of this, but does anyone remember those carts that used to be on a cable in the air that would take you around the magic kingdom?? I haven't ridden one in over 8 years!!
Well, you see, this afternoon I popped in an old home movie, from 91 when we lived in Disney for 3 months! Well, my dad taped us in one of those things. I completely forgot about them until I seen the tape.
You can still see the cables in the air in the magic kingdom if you look up. (at least last time I did)
It's such a shame that they had to close the ride due to someone jumping out to committ suicide.
I wish they wouldn't have though...it was a nice ride, one of my favorites. Seeing the whole park.
But as life seems to be, all it takes is for one...disturbed person (putting it nicely) to do something stupid, to have everyone pay for it. :(
I miss those things. :(

Yep! We used to ride them at Disneyland (CA) and I had the opportunity to ride them on my 1981 WDW trip.
I miss them! We used them as transportation from one side of the park to the other, as well as to relax a bit and look over the park!
One of those old-fashioned rides that one appreciates more with maturity! :)

I appreciated them as a child, and it was an old fashioned things. I think they have one in Hershey Park but I am unsure.
The last time I rode it was in 96. I was really diasappointed to go back in 99 to find that they were gone. :(

Yes Hershey used to have one that went from one side of the park to the other and it too is gone, they still have the smaller one tha runs near the Comet and Great Bear but it isn't the same. It was nice to take a break at the end of a long day. I remember seeing the one at Disney in pictures when I was a child.

Yeah I thought i could remember one in Hershey too. I did't look last September because I was too busy riding the Great Bear and those roller coasters :p
Just another advantage to living in the area, but it's nothing like Disney.

We were saying that we thought that'd be a great addition to the park, didn't realise they actually used to have one......

the one in skegness was forever breaking down , following a different thread here i have never been on a breakdown ride in WDW but one time spent about 25 minutes in the air on the sky chairs at skegy i wan only young and thought it great fun i was with my mum and did not realise untill many years later she was real scared but like all good mums hid it from me .dont think it helped that i said hey this is good if we lean t one side it rocks it !!!
l iked the way that from the WDW one you could look into 2000 leagues and see all the bits you could not see from ground level

One person did "fall" from the Skyway in Disneyland CA in 1994 but only suffered minor injuries - he was later advised to drop a lawsuit after admitting jumping. The fatal accident that ocurred in WDW in 1999 was an unfortunate maintainance worker who was killed when the ride was accidentally activated whilst he was carrying out pre-opening checks.
It has been quoted that The Skyway was not dismantled out of a fear of similar incidents, but for a variety of economic factors, including the attraction's age and carrying capacity, staffing requirements, maintenance costs, and the expense required to upgrade the Skyway to conform to newer safety and access standards.

Oh, my sister worked there and told me different, that's how I came to my conclusion.
I also know about the CM who accidentally fell off the top of the Contemporary too.
It must have been in the beginning of 99 because I was down in late 99.
