Hello fellow Disney travelers..I am new here. Question, this is our 2nd trip to Disney in 2years. My son is now 10 and my daughter is 7. We are staying at AK from 11/2 thru 11/9..My daughter has problems with her legs, she has had surgeries to correct the bones and casts etc. She is having alot of pain right now from her leg, and I have to rent a wheelchair although she is not in a cast now, she will have surgery when we get back. She is too old for a stroller, but I don't want people thinking because she has no cast we are abusing the wheelchair access!.. Any tips on how to accomodate her in Disney. She can walk, it is just her legs are bothering her alot right now and she limps because of the rod in her leg. geez, 3years of this and still more surgery. She is fine otherwise, we just can't carry all through the World..Thanks for any advice in advance:confused:

Let people think what they will. Don't let them get to you, it'll ruin your trip. If people are too busy bothering about your daughter being in a wheelchair, they're obviously not having a good time! Hard luck on them! :p

When you arrive at your first park go straight to Guest Services and ask for a GAC (Guest Assistance Pass) They will ask details of your Daughter's disabilities. Use this pass to alert the ride CM at the front of the ride before you line up that you require help. The CM will then direct you to an alternative entrance if needed. The pass will not give you access to front of the line, but will make any wait (usually short) less stressful.

I agree with WhiteQueen. I mean really...she is in pain. The only people I have growled at are obvious obnoxious groups of teens using them for races!

I am so glad you are getting to go and stay at AKL. I have heard that is so great for children!

Dont worry about other people!!

When we visited in September 2003, I was in a wheelchair, after a car accident (no visible injuries) and I used the wheelchair acces for rides, and got on the bus first and so on....

There is a REASON why she needs it, so, dont feel like you have to give explanations!

She will LOVE AKL!!! it is fantastic!!... its a bit hard to push the wheelchair with the carpet, but shes 7, so Im guessing not as heavy as I am

Have a great time!!!

Hi Tracycc

Sounds like your DD has got the same problem as mine. She is 17 now and just about to undergo her last lot of ops on her left leg. When we were there in Dec/Jan she still had all of her cage work on her right leg. This was a bit of a problem getting seated on the plane but we managed. We were unable to get a GAP as we were told that all of the rides are now wheelchair accessable and apart from 2 or 3 rides this was the case. She had very baggy trousers covering all of the frame work and could walk small distances and I know what you are saying you feel as though you are taking liberties at time, but we had no problem at all and everyone was just great, so dont worry about it just go and have a great holiday.
