I'd appreciate any comments on these sites for Internet Access in US. :)

I think for occasional use netaway looks pretty good, they're doing exactly what you want, international roaming on pay as you go... access-4-free would probably work out cheaper though but I don't have any experience on how reliable they are:/

arent link 1 and 2 the same company looking at them, they seem to be the sam as the disc wh smith is selling, that might be worth a look for you as its £25 but the 1st 20 hours are free

Keith

That's kinda what's needed really I think... 25quid and you know you have 20hours and preferably it'd stop working when it was all used up

I couldn't find one when I was last in WHSmith. I wasn't sure what I was looking for either.

Sorry didn't realise 1&2 were the same.

I'm just reading through Net2roam.

Probably why mine didn't have it, that I could see.

I've still got time to track it down, Red.

OK, another question. Access Numbers.............for PoP I would need to choose one as near to, ifnot the same as 407- 938 is that right?
This has become a challenge now!!! Whether I use it or not, I WILL get connected. :D

yeah but beware.. some disney resorts are in one local area and some in another. I'd always check with the front desk before dialling (and then the next day I always ask for an uptodate bill so I can make sure they really ARE charging at local call rate <G>)

is the POP resort not on bradband like some of the moderate resorts, i know its $10 a day but if your only going to log on maybe once or twice, that might be better for you

Whitequeen

Nah! It's a value and even some of the Deluxes haven't got broadband. :(

I must be making this more difficult than it is.

Access4Free probably will drive you insane with pop-up ads. I used Juno (free version) at one time. It wasn't bad at first (it was new), but drove me crazy as it grew and pop-up proliferated.

Will one of the US providers such as Juno.com or it's sister company, netzero, accept a UK credit card? They're about $10 per month, and if you cancelled immediately after returning home, you wouldn't have additional charges. You won't have blazing speed, but if you're on dial-up, speed really won't be an issue!

As Keith noted, be sure to verify what is a local number with the resort before using it, and verify your room bill the next day.

Check your PM WhiteQueen. I think I found a great deal.

I think that was the difficulty with the US one's Taja. They won't accept UK CC.

Thankyou Red, I'll be ready for you to call.
JD, you're a star.
And MMac, thanks for your PM too. :D

As DH has now started 'The Guilt Trip' (4 weeks to go, on the dot) I need to make sure he has access to me 24hrs a day. or I could just forget to plug it in.

I'm seriously considering just not bothering with internet access. I'll still take the laptop for storing the photos and all trip reports etc can be done in word and stored if I get chance. No-ones likely to want me urgently and I have my phone  Will I last without access though?! ........oh I don't know :nutty: I think I had a life before the internet

Anyone know the set up at The Poly?

ta very much :D

I know I can't last without access <G> It relaxes me when I get back at the end of a day just to go online, check the forum ;-), email etc.... I know I'm not missing anything and then I'm ok <G>

I have downloaded Access 4 free and set it up as a new connection. I tried to connect but my modem wouldn't dial, when I clicked trouble shoot the following help came up

Is your COM port turned off?
The troubleshooter detected that a COM port may be disabled. This may be the cause of the problem. Follow the steps below.
To enable a COM port

Open Device Manager in Control Panel.
Double-click Ports (COM & LPT) to expand the list of ports.
Right-click the port the modem is using, and then click Enable.

Only thing is when I open device manager PORTS isn't on the list to click on. Anyone know how I find my ports to enable them. I'm on XP.

thanks,

You'll need to go to the Add Hardware Wizard.
Tell it you will choose the device and manually add a COM port.

Thanks JD,

Tried that but when I select my internal modem from the list it just says "this device is working properly" then directs me to the trouble shooter which gives me the port enable message again. Any thing else I can try please ?

Got access-4-free working on the ibook okay. I tried a DVD on it yesterday and the picture was far superior to the laptop and fully charged it runs for 5 hours, so I vote we take the ibook instead :D
