Okay, I'm planning next summer's trip and I just asked the bf where he would like to eat and he said that he wants to eat where they serve lobster. :eat:
Is there a place at WDW that serves lobster? Thanks :D

Not good lobster. You'd have to travel 1500 miles north for that. Florida lobster is warm water lobster which does not hold a candle to Maine lobster

Well...I'm sure there will be many answers to this beyond what I have to say, but Teppanyaki in Japan/Epcot has a fantastic steak/lobster tail combo that is just to die for. I think there's also a shrimp/scallops/lobster combo, but I don't care for scallops.
I will also say that I did NOT care for the stuffed lobster tails at the Rainforest Cafe at AK. They are stuffed with a very rich crab dip/stuffing, and although I also love crab, I found it much too much of a good thing. After one or two bites of the stuffing, I scraped it all out and just ate the lobster meat...which was so-so.

I seem to recall that lobster was on the menu at Fultons at DTD [prev. the Empress Lily river boat] when we were last there.
Pity that this place has deteriorated since it became Fultons though..we never go there now!

Lunch at Fulton's is OK, but Dinner!! Nooooo! Don't do it!
I had some nice Lobster at Narcoosee's, if that helps. :)

Lobster? In Florida. Pah. But, if you insist, try one of the better WDW restaurants. You could also try Bluezoo (in the Dolphin) but I was singularly underwhelmed at Todd English's take on lobster.
Sometimes, for the money, the most viable place to have lobster is a Red Lobster or Shells or somewhere like that. It's no worse than what you would get elsewhere, and just may be better (Red Lobster tries to bring in northern lobsters).

Good point Tink.
I've also had decent lobster tails at Outback. They're not great but they'll do inbetween New England trips :)

Yes, that's true. They do. I've actually had one there that wasn't bad at all.
Fulton's? Skip it. Absolutely no longer worth the money. :(

Oh dear....I like Fultons. Last time we were there they had Stone Crab Claws....had never had them before...decided we liked them better than Main Lobster.

As of June 2004 Fulton's have:
Twin Maine Lobsters - flown in live daily, twin 1-1/4 pound lobsters steamed and served with corn on the cob, red skin potatoes and drawn butter $39.95
I can't vouch for the quality however.

The quality, nor the quality of the cooking. And, like all other Maine lobsters that are available in Florida, they will be soft shell. :( (Now, you can order your own, direct from Maine, and they will be hard shell, but that's not a real option when staying in a hotel room, eh)?

Actually the softness of the shell should depend on when they are caught. At this time of year I expect soft shells because they have just completed molting. If I were to receive a soft shell Maine lobster in April or May however, I am afraid I would have to reject it as they should certainly be nice and firm by then unless they have been in a holding tank for WAY TOO LONG.

Is it bad for the lobster to stay in a tank too long? Does it effect the taste?
OKWTink
November 3rd, 2004, 21:20
Yes. They get a "mushy" consistency to the meat if held too long.
I've had soft shells available nearly year round where I used to live USCWest. They "export" the soft shells because they are less expensive and because they are easier to "open." There is also less meat proportionately to the size of the lobster, than there is in the hard shell.

Totally agree Tink. It is very hard to get good lobster in Florida. Actually the best lobster I've had down here was at the Melting Pot on Valentine's Day a couple of years ago

The best lobster I had was on this past Mother's day. It was a gift. :D Shipped in straight from Maine, hard shell and all. Live, packed in seaweed. Nope, it doesn't get any better than that! :D

I guess that things get a lot worse for the lobster when it gets out of the tank!
Sorry...just my weird sense of humour!

untill my last trip to WDW i had never had lobster. my mum just loves it so i decided to try it , i went to angels lobster buffet -and was very disapointed . is that because of the comments in the posts above , or because angels is no good . i have never tried it again since then perhaps i am missing something .

Candyman, Angel's is disgusting. Blech. Double triple blech. :(
Actually, all of those "all you can eat" lobster and seafood buffets are terrible. They use "shorties" in the first place, plus they are only standard grade which makes them the lowest quality.
To top it off, they are held far too long, and then overcooked to the point of being inedible.
If you want to try lobster again, when in Florida, I would suggest the Red Lobster. It won't be the greatest by a long shot, but it will be about the freshest you are going to get. Just remind the server that you don't want the lobster cooked to the point of rubber, and hope for the best! :D

Is it bad for the lobster to stay in a tank too long? Does it effect the taste?Once a lobster has been caught and put in a holding tank it becomes like a starving hostage. Its claws are bound, they don't have a lot of room to move around and they don't eat like they would if they were still in the ocean. Fresh Lobster is always better than lobster that has to be shipped out of New England.
That said, if you don't live in New England, then relatively freshly caught lobster is a welcome alternative.

I never had lobster in Florida but dh did and he said he loved Fultons Crab House and is looking forward to it again when we return.

You are the second or third person to say that Bambi. Maybe Fulton's is starting to improve! It used to be quite nice there, and then they had quite a long spell of being not so great at all. I've not been in quite some time as a result.
Maybe it's time to try again, eh? :) (It is pricey there though)!

CORRECTION!!!!! Dh and I were talking and it was a mixture of Lobster and Crab. Here is a picture of the lobster and Crab from Fulton's. It came with some sort of broth, potatoes and corn. My husband really enjoyed it and he rarely raves about his food. (I mean he is pickier than our kids) Also here is a picture of what I ordered there also. I forgot what kind of fish but it was served with Shrimp, Vegetables and over hashbrowns.
OKWTink it is pricy but it was worth it. We went in when it wasn't crowded like 5pm. Maybe thats why we had our food cooked perfectly (temp. of food was nice and warm) we hate having our food served cold. Also we had really good service that evening. Hopefully Tink if you go back you will have a possitive experience. Let me know what you think if you do go back.

I used to really enjoy their clam chowder and ceasar's salad. They were the only ones for miles and miles that made the salad properly.
One of my favorite things to do used to be to have a bowl of chowder and a salad, in the Stone Crab Lounge, on a "chilly night."
I'll let you know how it goes, Bambi! Thanks for the photos. They make the food look super delicious!

hmmmm, maybe I'll just tell him there is no lobster to be found.
How about the best seafood restaurant then? It's definitely not for me. I'm strictly a chicken lady.

Oh foreverducky...don't be afraid to try new things...being chicken is ok, just don't let it keep you from being adventurous....:lmao:

Hey, if it swims, slithers, barks, meows, hops, or rippits I don't eat it.
But if it clucks then I'm there. :D

Well, that's not going to be much easier than the lobster question! :D
There are a couple of nice ones though, but they are off property. Bone Fish, Moonfish, and Roy's (all in the Dr. Phillips area) are pretty decent choices. I'd imagine you could get chicken at them too. Season's 52, although somewhat sporadic, is another good choice.
If you want to take a ride, you can go to Dixie Crossroads (Titusville or Mt. Dora) where you will have an authentic Florida style seafood dinner. How does rock shrimp sound to the seafood lover?

November 5th, 2004, 03:33
 So there's nothing on property? We wont have car.
Maybe I'll tell him they ran out of fish/crab/shrimp too.

There is the Flying Fish Cafe, the Bluezoo, Cape May Buffet, Fulton's Crab House, Coral Reef, Narcoosee's, and some seafood selections at the many other restaurants of WDW.
I'm sure you'll be able to find something that pleases the seafood lover! :D Don't let my Maine fussiness put you off!
And by the way, it's nice to see you here. I've missed you! Hope the job is going well.

Thanks!
I've been so busy and tired from the job I haven't been able to get on. (Plus, filling out grad apps again.)
I'll have to check into one of those places. He's not too picky. He probably wouldn't know the difference between Maine or Florida anyway. :D

Working a state job will do that to you. :( But I'm sure you are gaining some great experience that will look terrific on those Grad School apps! Where are you thinking of attending?
If he's not too fussy, and likes clams, mussels and shrimp (all he can eat) and crab leg (snow crab, for an additional cost) then consider taking him to the Cape May Cafe in the Beach Club. It is a really nice buffet, and you'll have a couple of chicken choices along with pasta, vegetables, potatoes, pizza, and other non-seafood items to choose from. It's roughly $25 per person (plus drinks) with dessert included in that price.
