Hi. Can anyone give me an idea of how long it takes to see and enjoy the osbourne lights. Also any idea what time they are switched on in the evenings(assuming that's what they do rather than being on all the time)?
Thanks :)

Not sure what time they "flip the switch" but I'd guess around six or so...
How long? I think I could wander through there for *days*. Realistically I would say. hmmmmm 45 mins to an hour maybe? It may also depend on the new layout, since they have relocated the lights.
PS Don't forget your glasses!!!

The Spectacle was not up last year, so there may be some changes to the way things are done.
There may be a bit of a ceremony before the actual lighting. They are turned on nightly, not left to burn all day. I think they came on at 7 pm in previous years, but could be very wrong about that. Do check to be certain.
There may be "snow" falling, too!
Depending upon the day of the week, and the time of the evening you could run into a near capacity audience. Folks just love this display and tend to flock to it in droves.
When it is heavily attended, it gets a little rushed as you have a tendency to follow the flow (and push) of the people and don't seem to have as much opportunity to linger and enjoy one bit over the other.
The Spectacle will be larger this year (it grows each year) and in a new area (WDW has refurbished the "streets" area of MGM Studio) so I am guessing that a gazillion people will be out to see it.
I'd allow at least an hour and a half, to two hours. If there is a crush, you may be able to stand off to the side and just admire some parts from a bit of a distance.
It is a huge, huge display. Dreadfully gaudy, but fun for all that!

the first day of Osborne LIghts is Nov. 24....that's when we'll be there. I'm the one that picks up the glasses..I just love those things...and wear them even after we've left that area. I can't wait!

Yes, yes! The 3D glasses. They are fun to wear at the Spectacle and looking at lights in general! :D Just be sure to take them off when driving though.

:lmao:....yes, don't wear them while driving...
I keep a pair in the car...that way if we see pretty lights at night, I can make them prettier!

Thanks for your replies. I am assuming they provide the 3D glasses?
The thing is our first full day in the park is 2nd January which is the lights last day, and also the last day of the Jingle jungle parade in AK. So, I was hoping to see the parade and then travel over to MGM for the lights, thinking that the park would close at 8.00. But MGM shuts at 7 that night so I was hoping you would tell me that was still time to do the lights justice. Can we wander for a bit after 7 since Fantasmic will still be on??

You should be ok. It might be a bit more hectic than you want it to be, but you should enjoy the Spectacle.
CMs at the entrance to the area where the Spectacle is set up should be handing out the 3D glasses. Keep in mind though, that on the last night they may have run out of them, ok? :worried:

Unless the new setup is considerably longer than it used to be I think you'll be just fine! We did them four times when we were last there in December, and I think the longest we ever "tarried" was about and hour and a half...and that was REALLY taking our time...letting the kids stop for pictures with the characters, sipping our cocoa, and marveling at the lights...
The glasses are indeed my favorite part...I've tons of them lying around the house...a couple of pair in the car (only for the passenger side  ) and even a pair out on the patio :) They are actually holographic glasses...I think they occasionally change patterns but the year we were there last, each light looked like an angel, and if you cocked your head back and forth, they appeared to be dancing!!! So magical! Gives new meaning to the phrase "angels among us."

There were setting up all the lights on New York avenue when we visited MGM this past week.
I am wondering how this will work because they used to keep you completely out of the area where the light displays were installed until they flipped the switch.
I can't wait to see the lights again!

thanks.
Do I take it that if you are describing the glasses as holographic, that they are more sophisticated than the little cardboard red and green things that my children have had with various books and comics and the like? I've got some of those at home and could take them with us to be on the safe side. Would these be of any use to us? I'm sure the lights will be spectacular whatever, but it would be nice to see dancing angels!

Not necessarily more *sophisticated* just different...the glasses are designed especially for OL, and they are what make the angels appear...
I wouldn't worry overly much about not having the glasses...personally, I think you'll be fine...just don't wait until the last closing minute of the park to get there...
Oh, and no, don't working about taking your other glasses

snapdragon,
They are not like the red/green 3-D glasses. It is hard to describe, but the effect is wonderful They are a dark gray glasses and they polarize focused lights into a predetermined shape (they don't work on diffuse, unfocused lights). The resultant shape is colored with several different rainbow colors. I like the angels the best. I believe they had snowmen one year.

BevW,
I'm trying to remember--but now that you mention snowflakes, I think maybe it was snowflakes instead of snowmen....

Some HoloSpexTM glasses (http://www.3dglassesonline.com/holospec.html) ( You can't actually see the image you will see when you look at the glasses--) the lenses look like this (http://www.3dglassesonline.com/polarized.html)
I would like to get a pair of these glasses! (http://www.3dglassesonline.com/3dfireworks.html)
