I'm going to get a family portrait taken and I was wondering what resort has the prettiest settings (ie. water, trees, etc.). This will be in early January so if it rains, what resort has the prettiest insides? Thanks!!

it very much depends on your family and the setting you'd like for the portrait. The great thing about Disney is you have old/new and everything in between!
For an, everyone dressed up, elegant portrait, inside the grand floridian is great in particular, they have a sweeping staircase which would be perfect.
For an ultra modern, dressed however, kinda look, contemporary.
Polynesian will give you a portrait that could've been taken at a luau :)
The wilderness lodge has a nice outside along with a nice inside in case it rains and has the water/trees thing you mention.

:) For an OUTDOOR portrait anywhere on the grounds of the Port Orleans Resorts (French Quarter or Riverside) would make a great setting. Possibly along the river? Possibly in the gardens? The choices are endless. Which ever location you choose I know it be good because after all this is at WDW. :hehe:

I think the Beach Club would be great. It's so pretty inside & you have landscaped grounds that are gorgous plus you have the beach.

I agree with all the above and don't forget AKL! It is really nice indoors (especially the Igbo dancing mask!) and has some lovely grounds too.
Does really depend upon the "look" you are after.
Wouldn't that be a cool photo album, though? A shot of the family at each resort, both indoor and outdoor?

I attempted to do Christmas photos last year of our girls for Christmas Cards. I thought it was a great idea. We were going to the WL for the carriage ride & for traditional Christmassy looks the WL is the best. I took a ton of pics of my daughters & then had a couple taken of the whole family still in the carriage. NONE turned out. Apparently my flash wasn't working right or the developer wasn't working right & I could use none of them. I was so sad. :(

That's a consideration, you will want the area to have as much light as possible. There are losts of great spots around WDW, but if it's going to be an interior shot, I would say Grand Floridian, Beach Club. For a Xmas portrait those two are perfect, the lobbies are decked out with Xmas decorations but still with a white background.
If you want to have it done professionally through Disney, this is the department that does it:
"Disney Event Group Photography, Video & Creative Services".
You can contact them at 407-827-5099.
They do photography and video for weddings, conventions, honeymoon photography and family portraits anywhere in the parks.
