That depends on who you ask.
We bought one in Aug 03. It was $50 then, now they are $60. We used him. Mickey is very cute and tells some corny jokes. He is hard to hear if you have him anywhere except right by your ear.
He's an expensive souvenier IMO

We bought one as well. Our first trip with him we took him everywhere. We took him back with us in August and he spent most of the time in the hotel. I think he was worth it--he plays a few games with the kids. If you are not sure though you could try renting him. He rents for about 8 dollars a day. If you decide to buy him they put your rental fee toward the purchase and give you a new one in a box.

the main reason we thoughtwe would buy one is that we are there for 4 weeks and my son 18 months old has a mickey that he takes everywhere with him so we thought one that acctually talked would be good fun for him

I think your son would love a pal mickey if he likes his own at home. Just imagine the look on his face when it starts to talk to him

that is what i thought Isafari
especially as palmickey will start talking on his own with out pressing any buttons .
he loves the talking toys at home but knows that we press the buttons or squeeze the toy
some how i think he may get one

I've got 3!!!
Each of the kids bought their own and I thought they would be a waste of *THEIR* money. Pleased to say I was wrong.
Make sure Mickey is facing front and centre as you enter any of the 4 parks.
He will tell jokes if you press his hand and when a parade is due to start he giggles and shakes and tells you to go and watch it. He will remind you about fireworks etc.
When you get home he will still tell you jokes but unless you have the 3 0'clock parade going through you house, no parade info. :D There is also a couple of 'simon says' games that can be played on him too.
Ours are sitting on the window sill watching me now.
Ours were $60 each.

Can someone remind me where to buy one from? Where do you get the rental ones from as well please?
Also, are they really so hard to hear - is it just cos the surroundings are noisy?

You can buy them at any WDW store, but I don't know where you rent them.
It is just the surroundings that make them difficult to hear.
NICE AND LOUD HERE AT HOME!!!!!!!

Hang on, Steve. James is testing Pal Mickey to see if he giggles here............................
Well, he giggles after telling you a corney joke but he doesn't shake. He must only shake in the park to alert you to something.
Something else I remembered. When he's told you a joke you have to wait 15 seconds before pressing his hand again or you'll get the same joke.

I have a feeling little Oli will be THRILLED with the Pal Mickey...the interaction is really neat...
One thing though...don't be surprised if, at the end of the day, Oli wants cuddly "old" Mickey back....it's amazing the way children crave the familiarity of something even if a "new" one is presented to them...

that is true
when heather was in hospital oli was mad on sulley , there was a giant one on the way into the ward, so we bought him one and he thought it was mega
but good old mickey has got his place in the bed back now sulley is relegated to the toy box , still gets played with but mickey is the one whohas to lie beside him . awwwww.

My daughter rented one last November when we went & she felt it wasn't worth the money.
At the WDW outlet (character corner or whatever it's called) in St. Augustine they had Pal Mickey's for $27. I was shocked as I'd seen them at every resort gift shop we'd been in. I didn't check the prices there so I don't know if they were on sale there too. I'm now wishing I'd bought one for that price but at the time I had already blown so much money I just had to stop.

I receive a Disney email from another site-I won't say who as I don't want to get in trouble  --the newsletter was saying that as of December 1, you'll no longer be able to rent Pal Mickey but you will still be able to buy Pal Mickey for $60 (that's $56.33 plus tax; price subject to change). Coming in May 2005, there will be a "Happiest Celebration on Earth Special Edition" Pal Mickey. Also, a costume line will be out in the summer for your Pal Mickey .
