Can anyone recommend any, especially for kids ? People I have spoken to have all said the ones they went to were a rip off. Very expensive, poor food and show OK.

If you want a good place for discount tickets, one of the sponsors of this site is Maple Leaf Tickets, and has some pretty decent pricing. Makes me wonder why anyone would pay full price?

Some people like that Dolly Parton thing. It's quite close to WDW property (just near the Premium outlets).
But I'm with Keith. Midieval Times is about the best one.
Cirque (with dinner before or after) is another excellent show. It's a bit pricier than the rest (especially when you add the cost of dinner to it) but it is seriously worth every cent.

Last time we went Virgin were offering Arabian Nights tickets for free if you went to the introductory meeting. We went along but were made to wait ages before they gave us the tickets.
The show was ok but the food was so-so. I think it is ok if you like horses.

I agree. Medieval times is the best non Disney dinner show (IMHO). Pirates was OK for the kids (we paid a little extra and sat near the front and they were picked to go up on the ship and fire guns etc.!) but MT had a much better atmosphere and sound system. The food is about the same for both.
Make sure you find the discount tokens in local magazines (BOGOF etc) before you go. It can save a lot of money.
I would certainly recommend Cirque and Hoop de Doo over any of the non disney shows though.

DO NOT DO THE PIRATES DINNER SHOW.
This is a complete waste of money, with horrible food, poor drink and no story line. We seen a similar show in Magaluf a few years ago and were really looking forward to this, my youngest dressed-up as a pirate. The Orlando show was terrible. It only lasts about an hour and has minimum audiance involvement. I have never been so sober after drinking so much "beer" and "wine", must be the vintage pirate water!
They then ask for $20 for a photo, $5 tip for each adult and a further $3 for each kid.
Just do not waste your time going to this dinner show, even with a free ticket. Thee MUST be something better to do. We left Seaworld early and missed the fireworks. We know what will not be on our 2005 schedule.
Try Mickeys Backyard BBQ. This was quality. Wholesome food (plenty) and excellent chance to get character autographs (micky, minni, goofy and chip&dale). This was a great night and was not too busy (october). Good beer and wine available all evening.

We love the Dixie Stampedes. Have not been to the one in Florida, but have been to the one in Branson numerous times. The Christmas show is so beautiful. You do eat with your hands, so if that bothers you, just throw some silverware in your purse like I do. :)

Will try and fit in Dixie Stampedes next year. It is only across the road from our hotel. The building looked very impressive, but never seemed that busy when we passed in the evening (october).

Thanks for the tip. We were going to give this a go, as we loved the one in Magalluf (which was great!), won't do the Orlando one then.

It's the tipping that gets me..... at arabian nights the servers got into position at the ends of all the benches so to get out you HAD to go past them and they kinda had this whole "block their path till they give us money" thing going on. And at a recommended x$ per person (was it 10 hmmmmmm).. it gets expensive
Of the off site ones... med. times was my fave....
Dixie stampede christmas show wasnt as good as I expected but was better than average.
Actually .. the outa control magic show was really good fun and value.. only something like $11 each

The whole tipping thing takes a little getting used too. I always tip for good service, but do not like being told how much to tip. It is really annoying when they tell you how much $5, $10, 17%, 18%, 19% or 20%.
If someone gives a good service and have went out of there way then I think they deserve a reasonable tip. No problem with meals, room maids or hotel porters.
But we had a real problem with the sloppy service at the dinner. Then being told we had to pay $5 per adult and $3 per child, although this is only $21 (£11.50), it really annoyed me that they provided a wee card and plate. I would have probably given then a tenner, but only left them $1 as it annoyed me so much.
Another one was the poor service we got one night in Marco Island, young student waitress, wrong order, slow, etc, etc.....Then she added 20% onto the bill in pen! Don't thin so.
Apology for the ramble but I am off on one.........we paid nearly $150 to go on an airboat trip through the everglades, great day (watch out for mozzies), but spoilt by the big sign on the boat, captain work only for tips....why don't they pay them!

Dont get me started :)
We went to the everglades on a trip... the coach drivers said something like "well I hope you had a good day and if you want to get driven back well you know where the tip box is" GRRRRRRRRR
no... must stop moaning.. must.... stop.... moaning.. (it annoys me SO much though)

Calm down Keith !
We got a yellow cab back from Universal late one night, great day and very tired. I think the meter said about $19, I went into my pocket and only had a $20 note. Handed this the driver and we all got out. Only for him to get out the taxi, put his hand out and say "where is the tip?"
I am 6 foot, but this guy towered over me and could have been in a basketball team, with very threatening eyes. We made a very quick exit into the hotel lobby.
Not the side of Orlando we expected to see.
