Joanne
Each night the new post list gets cut back to about 4 posts and then grows again. This leaves me trying to remember which topics I was looking at.
Would it be possible to leave, say, 2 or maybe 3 pages of threads showing and as they expand let the older ones drop off the bottom?

'Tis a bit disconcerting to be called away while reading a post from "New Posts" and have the entire "New Posts" disappear when only 3 posts of 3 or 4 pages have been read.
Probably would be intelligent to ignore the world while reading "New Posts." :)

I've had this happen before as well. It is frustrating.

the new posts are all those new threads since the last time you visited. They do reset after a while. If you want to keep track of threads you've posted to, be sure you subscribe and then you'll get an e-mail when a new post has been made to that thread

Hi JM.
Is it possible to drop threads off the bottom once (for example) 60 threads are reached, i.e. just keep the latest 60? Not saying do it, but is it possible?

I don't understand what you asking. Since I logged in last, I had three pages of new posts. The next time I log in, I'll just get those with new replies since my last visit

I have found that if I come in as a "guest" without fully logging in I can go to New Posts except it will say Today`s Posts and I find I can then read ALL of that days posts, but if I log in it will just say New Posts and will maybe just have four or so until it grows...try that Shogun.

Normally what happens is when I go to New Posts and read something that I think is interesting, and make a comment or subscribe to it, and I come back to New Posts...all those posts that looked interesting are gone.
That's how I miss so much that goes on here. It's a pain..such a sad sad state of pain.

Every so often the three pages are erased and all you are left with is 2 or 3 new postings. the remainder of the pages are no longer available as new posts.

That is because too much time has passed for them to be considered new :)

Shogun,
Another possible solution (besides ignoring everything else until you have read all the new posts like Taja suggests--that is really good suggestion, too :D ) is from the New Posts page, right click the link of the post you wish to look at and then click on "open in a new window". That way your New Posts page stays the same and you can use it as your main navigation page....

I'm so pleased someone mentioned this, I thought it was just me and my lack of comp literacy. :D
Great idea, DC. will do that in future.

I hope I am not stepping out of line here but looking at the replies to the original thread most people, it would appear, would appreciate not losing the lists of new posts.
Maybe if the heading was changed to "Latest Posts" , with the latest 40 or 60 posts listed without bulk deletions it would make life easier.
What are other members views on this?
It would also be interesting to hear from the moderators about the feasability of doing this.

for me, I want to see new posts since my last log in. That way I can see what I haven't read since my last visit. Sometimes it is 60 posts, other times it is 15. I wouldn't want to go throw 60 posts of stuff I've already read each time I logged in. Add to that, if your on vacation for a few days, there is a very good chance there will be much more than 60 new posts since your last log in.

I always read the new threads first and as they are darker than the others on screen I find no problem in checking them. Of course - another solution would be to permanently remain linked into your 'puter - now - where would you put the plug!!

This is what I do and I never lose a post while I'm wading through them.
Enter through the page which has all the Forums listed then click on new posts. This will lose the Forum page and bring up the new posts pages since I was last here. I then go to the last page of new posts and start where I left off. I right click on the post I want to read and open it in another window. When I've read/answered I close that window. I then still have the list of new posts and don't lose any and can work my way to the newest post.
If you keep closing the new posts page it will reset and assume you have read them all after a certain amount of time.
Did that make sense?
