Does anyone know or know where I can find the history & photos of The Tree House Villas?
We rented a pontoon boat from OKW this past trip & went past them. I was amazed at how ran down they were. I mean, I knew they weren't renting them anymore but they had trees laying on them & the weeds had grown up something awful. I became weirdly fascinated by them to the point I seriously tried to talk my husband into pulling the boat up close to the land so I could scurry up to one & peer in the windows (for some reason he refused, don't know why  ). I think it's the knowledge of knowing there is something at WDW that is or already has become a part of it's "past" & that I can no longer experience. I would love to know the story behind these weird little buildings & see what they looked like inside.
Thanks for any help!

I'm sure that WDI already has a plan for what will be there, maybe expansion of Saratoga Springs?
I do know that two years ago they were in habitable condition and overflow students from WDW College Program stayed there during the summer while "Chatham Square" was being finished.
"Chatham Square" is one of three apartment complexes where WDWCP participants live while working at Disney. The other two are "Vista Way" and "The Commons".

The Tree house villa's are closed . they will reopen under the Saratoga resort. I think it is under phase 3 of the project.

For some reason I thought it was in an area that could not be rebuilt upon again? That if they tore them down then that was the end, nothing else could go up. Don't ask me why as I don't really recall. I just remember being told that by a Disney boat driver once.

I've read that many times Big Thunder.
They can be refurbed but not pulled down and something else built. So if Disney want to keep accommodation there, they have to keep refurbing what they have.
I would love to stay there...........or would I? It looks spooky at night. :afraid:

Treehouse Villas was a really neat concept! I visited the resort once when I was there in 1981 (was stuck as Club Lake Villas, which was the WDW convention resort at the time--became part of Disney Institute later). I really wanted to stay at the Contemporary Resort at the time, and was disappointed about the convention resort location.
When researching accommodations for our WDW trip in August, 2003, I was surprised that they didn't use the Club Lake Villas floor plan as the basis for the DVC or Deluxe resorts. It's much nicer and more efficient than the studio, although certainly not a luxurious as a one-bedroom, and definitely nicer than a standard room at a Deluxe.

I've heard the same things -- CM's were housed there and Maybe it will become part of SSR - but I've also heard things contrary to them becoming part of SSR so who knows. Last I read of the rumours on the boards, there was alot of water damage from the hurricanes and that many of them have severe wood rot and are not in "liveable" (sp?) condition:( I have heard though that they cannot be torn down for whatever reason and that if they ever do want to use them that they'd need to be referbished not rebuilt. Hmmm.....I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I can tell you from first hand experience their was a lot of tree damage that I am presuming is from the hurricane(s). What surprised me is that they were just left in that condition. Anyone renting a boat in that area or taking a boat to DTD from PO-FQ & R would be taken right past them all & have to see that. I would have thought they would have cleaned it up so it wouldn't be an eye soar. Plus the weeds & grass were all grown up around it. It was rather sad. Plus someone mentioned spooky, they looked really spooky in that condition!

We stayed at the treehouses about 15 years ago. It was kind of neat being in the middle of the woods, but at night it was dark and VERY quiet.
The places themselves were decent, circular with common rooms and 2 bedrooms upstairs and another BR and living area downstairs. What surprised us that with all the greenery and heat, no mosquitos and gnats at night. I guess Disney doesn't allow that!! Also in the master BR there was like a deep bathtub that you sat in like a chair with a door on the side, i vaguely remember that. In 1998, we stayed at the (then) Fairway Villas, I guess it is Saratoga Springs now. It was right across the water from the Marketplace and every night we could hear the music from Pleasure Island. Thanks for letting me reminisce (sp?)
