Unless noted, tax is added on. Florida sales tax is 7%

By the time you add county and city tax, it varies from about 7.8% to 8.4%. It's wonderful when you have to do transaction privilage tax reports for multiple locations!

Florida has no state income tax though :) Because we rely on tourism so much, there is no way Florida would ever NOT have a sales tax :)

And in addition to state personal and corporate income tax. :(

I agree with you Candyman. I liked the pay what the tag says system in Ireland! I didn't like the VAT though! I managed to mess up the exemption from the VAT and ended up paying it on a couple of pricey items. I didn't really mind in the long run. It seemed ok to pay it, since you have to pay our taxes when you come here. There are no exemptions for visitors!
Tax fluctuates here dependent upon the item purchased. Hotel beds are at a higher tax, food items at a lower tax, and some food is not taxed at all. Prepared foods are taxed... it makes me have a headache to try and follow it all.
I'm always grateful for those rare places that say "tax included!"

Totally agree Tink. The majority of items (other than hotel rooms and rental cars) are at the standard rate. Remember that some counties have a higher tax rate (My sales tax in Broward is just the state 6%)

Some cities in some counties will add a tax too. Can really get confusing. You could pay xxx amount in tax when in county ABC. But when in City XYZ of county ABC you will pay more because the city has levied a tax on merchandise too. :(

Yep. Gas taxes are the same way. I never buy gas in Palm Beach county because they have such high gas taxes

Oh yes! Gas tax will break you if you don't know where to get your gas!

So Tink, are the onsite gas stations still the cheapest in the area?

we have wicked high cigerette taxxes, with i like cos it discourages use. But i think a box is about $5, and the tax makes it about $7

the proce for most things is way higher in the uk
its another reason for us to visit WDW to grab some bargains
as an example
how would you feel paying $7 a gallon for gas !
that is just about what we are paying now and that is the cheapest price around where i live .
btw can anyone please tell me what the current price is around the WDW area ?

here cigarettes are around $8.05 for 20 of a decent brand
which i too as a non smoker think is a good thing .
they may be higher now as i have been out of the paper shop for 18 months and thats where i used to sell them .

Gas down here is about $2.04-$2.11 a gallon depending on the station. We tend to be on the state's high side here in South Florida

ok, I couldn't imagine smoking if a pack cost that much! I don't smoke but DH does. I made him switch to generic cigarettes and since we live in Tobacco Country, he pays $10.50 for a carton.

:iagree:
I know it's more expensive here though.
Always happens though. Get to the counter, dig around to find the right change (which takes long enough as I don't know what they are - till just before I leave, typically!) and then it's more cause I've forgotten about the tax.
Ah well, one of the joys of the happiest place on earth, I care not, will always love Florida, eben though I can never get rid of the pennies
