CMs to Strike?

I just heard this from DH...he heard that the CM's are going to stike! over 52,000 employees are striking because Disney raised their health care premiums higher than the raises they all recieved.

Any one else hear about this? I"d hate to be at WDW and there be no CM's!

I think this was mentioned a couple of weeks ago but I was hoping it wasn't true. Surely they would realize the impact of not having CM's to run things and would negotiate quickly.

I would hope so Heather...but if not...I was trying to think which rides I wanted to be in charge of..and Rick says he'll pilot the boats! :lol:

I don't cook while on vacation though..so it looks like we go off property to eat our meals.

Local news reports have the union calling in a Federal mediator. Let's hope they can forestall a strike. That's the last thing this area, and Disney needs. :rolleyes:

Did I ever tell you about the very first time I went to DLParis for the day? The very day ALL CMs were on strike!! No Characters, no nothing!!!! :(

Could this be history repeating itself, for me? :lol:

Oh, no, no, no. 55,000 is the total number of CMs at WDW, they are not all going on strike. Here is the break down:


55,000 - Total number of CMs working at WDW in Orlando, Florida
That includes CMs that work in the parks, resorts, administrative areas, other Walt Disney Company business units such as Imagineering, The Celebration Company (Administrative body of the city of Celebration, Florida), Reedy Creek Improvement District (all public services including code enforcement, fire, police,etc.) and many others.
Depending on the day of the week and the time of the year, there could potentially be up to 42,000 CMs working at any given day.
Of those 55,000, around 20,000 are full time, hourly employees. The other 35,000 are part-time employees, participants in the WDW College and International Programs, salaried employees (managers, and administration) and other business units with offices in Orlando.
The 20,000 employees includes those who work in the parks and resorts and have guest contact (characters, merchandise, attractions, food and beverage, custodial, housekeepers), maintenance (electricians, plumbers, painters, landscapers and other trades).
The CMs involved in the possible strike are full time, hourly employees who work in direct contact with guests (see list above).
If a strike were to happen, it would include around 2,000 to 2,500 CMs.
Knowing that strikes are possible at any given time, Disney has always been prepared and has alternate plans in case of one.


People visiting WDW, other than seeing a few picketers in the entrance to the roads leading into Disney (Disney is private property and picketers stay outside the property lines, union leaders make sure of that) should not worry at all. There will be plenty of CMs around.

Wednesday we went off property to eat, and yep there were tons of them right outside Disney's gates striking. News was there and everything.
