Having problems with Norton anti virus conflicting with other programs. Does anybody know of a good free antivirus program apart from Norton or McAvee. Or maybe good antivirus we have to buy?

I still swear by mcafee... norton does work for some and it's a "simple" solution to suggest to people.. but I've seen SO many issues with it.

mcafee has worked well for me for years

No it's not free but it's a pretty cheap (few quid) annual subscription..
Yep free updates as long as you subscribe. happens in the background.
yep you can download it 24/7 legally (from mcafee.co.uk) or otherwise

Is it safe to log onto McAvee without any antivirus protection installed?

If you don't want to go to McAffee without protection get this first

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/1/
Pm me for McAffee cost questions.

Doesn't that kinda substitute the question with "is it safe for me to go to the grisoft site without any protection?" ;-)

...but anyway, yeah as long as you have sp2 installed, you're fine going to mcafee.com etc

Well I just thought you run sp2 firewall and norton, download gris, go to mcafee, and wear a radiation suit. Before installing Mcafee go to you doctors and get a complete blood transfusion ala Keith Richards, uninstall the other two antivirus programs, click install on Mcafee, then very quickly leave the house and evacuate the neighborhood.
When you come home 6 hours later, Mcafee should be installed and all is safe. :D

Then again. Panda Titanium is nice too.

I seem to be using virusscan 9... I think every year I pay about 10 quid for another year of virus updates (and every so often.. usually every few days, I hear a little ding and see it's downloaded an update).

Don't know if that's the best deal or whatever... it's just what I use. I did try norton for a very short time but .. well.... I'm still cleaning up the mess ;-)

I am so confused.

My computer had McAffee installed on it, when I bought it. My AOL account has the McAffee included in my plan. That part does not confuse me. :) But when I try to update through McAffee, and yes I did write down my email that I registered with and the password, I cannot update. That is what confuses me  Is it being automatically updated through AOL? Can somebody please unconfused me. :) Don't get too technical though.

What does it say when you try and update? does it say you don't need to or does it say you're not allowed to orrrrrr ?

It will say, you are not allowed from this email address.. So I called costumer service, and they told me that was the right email address. And then sometimes I get the message wrong password, and then they will send me my password, which is the same one I am trying to use.
