Hi All.
I have a feeling I've asked this question somewhere recently but I don't think it was on here. I've spoken to that many people about Florida recently that I've forgotten who I've spoken to about what! :hehe: If it was on here I apologise but I'll ask again anyway and hope that I get away with it.
I'm close to booking a villa holiday for February. The villa is in Davenport and I'm hoping to gather as much information about Davenport as I can before I go ahead and book. Can anyone tell me what Davenport is like? How far is it from the Orlando and the main parks? Are there any eateries in Davenport? What about supermarkets? Anything and everything really - bombard me with information!
Thanks very much,
Paul.

2 Publix Fairly close. One to the left and one to the right as you come out of Davenport.
We stayed at Highland Reserve which is a little bit further down the I27. Took about 20 mins drive to get to the parks but you are about 5 mins closer.
There are a lot of eateries on the 192. We used Dennys quite a bit.
Many places do huge servings so dont be afraid to ask to split one between 2.

I own a home on the 27 which is in the Davenport postal area .It depends where abouts you are staying as to whether access to the parks is best via the 192 or the I-4 but both are convenient .There are 2 Publix supermarket near by one on the 192 and one just by Highlands Reserve as well as the new Wal Mart just north of the 192/27 junction. The area has eating places near Haines city or there are plenty of places along the 192 .All in all a great area -but i'm biased .

Thanks for the response Dave. Or is it Shogun? Which should I call you?
What's all this nonsense about splitting a meal between 2 people??? I like my food and have no intention of sharing any with anyone! :D

I'm not 100% sure of the exact location in which I will be staying yet, but when I am I'll be sure to post it up to see if you can offer further information.
Thanks,
Paul

Mike -My home is on Lake Davenport Estates just south of the 192/27 junction so not quite as far down the 27 as Sunridge .It is near to the Bahama Bay complex and just down from Esprit and Polo Park.
Paul

I've just discovered that the villa I'm trying to book is on the Loma Vista estate.
Any information anyone?
orlandobabe
November 24th, 2004, 23:26
Loma Vista is near Champions gate golf course and close to the I-4 where it crosses the 27 so easy access to the parks using the I-4 it is number 56 on this map

Hello all.
I've been AWOL for a little while am back now, and need to be with a vengeance because my holiday is booked! YIPPPEEE!!!
I've booked the villa I wanted on the Loma Vista estate in Davenport and I leave on 19th February.
Now then . . .
What's this I hear about some kind of local tax that I have to pay when I'm over there? Can anyone explain?
I'm going to have plenty of questions but I'm not sure of the correct protocol here. There are obviously lots of different boards with literally thousands and thousands of threads about just about everything, however, do I have to trawl through the boards to see if the information I require is already out there somewhere? Or is it acceptable to post my questions anyway?
Thanks,
Paul.

I'm attempting to bump this back up the board as I'm hoping that someone will be able to offer me some information about the 'local tax' that I have to pay when I arrive in Florida. How much is it? & where do I pay it, please?
Thank you.
Paul.

Hiya paul, I think the local tax you refer to is the tax you pay on purchases while you're there.
Each state and area has its own " local tax " so for example, if you went into walmart and got your groceries you would notice on your till receipt the words " local tax " and it would have the percentage that is applicable in that particular area, and this is already added into the total price you pay.
So it is nothing to over worry about, enjoy yourself paul :)

and just so you know, the boards have a wonderful search feature :) You can type in what your looking for and it will give you those thread :D

Hey Mickey, did I detect a hint of sarcasm there?
I've tried many searches but they always seem to throw up hundreds of threads, even when I use the advanced option.
I'll accept my slap on the wrist gracefully though. :sorry:

Bill,
Many thanks for your response.
If the tax that I've been told of is indeed the one that you described then it's a weight off my mind.
Thank you,
Paul.
