Okay, I'm trying to figure out which places to try. I've got places to dine at MK and Epcot, but I'm searching for a place at MGM and DTD.

For MGM:
Hollywood and vine OR Hollywood brown derby?? Which is better or are they both about the same.

For DTD:

I'm open to all suggestions, however not Planet Hollywood (didn't like it the first time).

MGM would be for lunch and DTD would be for dinner. Visitors (myself, mom and dad).

Thank you

Brown Derby for its historical significance! I dont know how old your dad is but he may REALLY enjoy it! There are so many historical facts that go along with the brown derby and the cobb salad!

I agree that Brown derby is the way to go in MGM.In DTD I prefer Bongos, if you like Latin Food and Frozen drinks then this is the place.

Cant you have Gherradelli's for dinner?

:falloff: I like frozen drinks and latin food, but I don't think my parents would really enjoy Bongos. Yummm, frozen drinks.

My mother is in her later forties (don't tell her I told you :D  ) and my dad is in his fifties.

Have to put my vote in for 50s Prime Time Cafe for lunch in MGM.

DTD. Many choices. Maybe your parents would like Puck's Cafe? There is a fairly diverse menu there, and everyone should be able to find something they like.

House of Blues is really great, but you'd better be into blues and LOUD blues at that.

Good Italian (northern mostly) can be found at Portobello's Yacht Club. Seafood, of course at Fulton's but I'm not too thrilled with the quality there.

Rainforest is loud, usually poor service and I'm not a fan of the food. (I'm with you on Planet Hollywood too. Didn't like the food).

Ghirardelli's for the sugar overload ice cream sundae version of dinner is always a thought. :D

MGM? I don't know for sure, but the next time I want to dine at that park I'm heading for Hollywood and Vine. Went by there the other evening and it smelled luscious!

Brown Derby? Nah. Never did like the looks of the place. :sorry:

MGM... tried them all and brown derby has the best food and although I dont think it looks amazing from outside either, once in there it kinda feels a bit special. We have had poor service once, but the rest of the times it's been good. Whatever you do STAY AWAY FROM mama melroses <shudder>

DTD. rainforest cafe is as Tink says usually poor service and overpriced too BUT last time we went, we got a boat from POR to DTD, hopped off... had a table at rainforest by a large fish tank :) and had a great time. I cant exactly recommend it, but it can sometimes be kinda ok.

House of blues though is for me an undiscovered treasure! Took us ages to find the entrance! but food was excellent.

Planet hollywood. GRRRR! dont even get me started!

One more vote for Wolfgang's Cafe. We loved it!

House of Blues sounds good, but I think it might be a little too loud for my parents. sheesh, the choices are dwindling for DTD. :(

 Keith, I feel the same way about Planet Hollywood. :hissy:

Maybe that first night we should just do shopping at DTD and then go back to Pop and eat at the counter. :( I just wanted to do something nice for the first day (but really evening, wont be arriving till around 6pm).

So it sounds maybe like a toss up for Hollywood and Vine and the Derby. :D

If you are thinking that counter service would be easiest, you can try Wolfgang Express. They have two locations at DTD so whether you are on the West Side or the marketplace you could still try it. We ate there at each location this last trip and we will definitely return. The food is wonderful, not quite as pricey as a table service meal, and really convenient.

Ask your parents! get info on both and see which one they would like!

No one has mentioned Captain Jacks!

We had a fantastic dinner there

The place is really nice with a fantastic view of DTD lagoon, the food was superb and the service amazing! It seemed to me like this was a more "adult" place, less noisy and very very tasty!

Did you like it Mari? I ate there once, long ago now (at least two or three years) and it wasn't nice. Maybe it has changed!

Yes, we both liked it a lot. We had the Clam Chowder and some Spinach and Artichoke dip.... delicious!

And the view was just incredible...

So.. maybe it has changed, or we were very lucky

I'll bet it's changed. When I was there the service was awful and the pasta (that'll tell you how long ago!) was horrid. Mushy and sticky and lukewarm. Blech. So, I crossed it off my list, but places can improve!

Maybe time for another try.

Well, we only tried the clam chowder and the dip, but they were both good, so it might be time to go back.... :)

I suppose I should go look at the menu :) but was it mainly sea food stuff?

To be honest I dont remember, but I did send the menu in to Joanne to use for the site, so it should be around here somewhere...

The wife and I LOVE eating :eat: at Cap'n Jack's. It is one of our favorite dinner spots in all of WDW. The food is very tasty, and the frozen strawberry margaritas :Pour: are to die for. Next time we go I will try to limit my frozen creations to just two as to avoid :falloff: .
