I will need to access the internet a few times while we are away over December. Do all resorts have this facility and is it a pay as you go or pre purchase???
Thanks

They all have internet terminals in the lobby or just off the lobby that you can feed dollar bills into (or swipe your credit card)
Some deluxe have wi-fi internet.....
But others you;re limited to sorting out your own internet connection using modem dial up from the room (75c for as long a call as you want if you can find a provider with a local orlando phone number).

We just stayed at the Beach Club Villas a few weeks ago and they now have internet access.
It's $9.95 for 24 continuous hours of use. The resorts with in-room connections are:
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort
Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
Disney's Contemporary Resort
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney's Beach Club Villas
Disney's BoardWalk Resort (including DVC units)
The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge
Disney's Old Key West Resort
Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
Wi-Fi is available at these resorts for $4.99 the first hour and $9.95 for 24 continuous hours:
Disney's BoardWalk Resort
Disney's Contemporary Resort
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
For in-room access you will need your own LAN cable and for Wi-Fi your own Wireless card or you can buy one at the Business Centers of the resorts.

:smug: and why not the 'values'?
Keith

To be honest, it's pretty poor value anyway. Better off paying 75c for as long a phone call as you want from any room including the values

Thanks for your help.

Well for a quick ten minutes internet to use email and a bit of web... the internet kiosks are probably the best bet... doesn't cost that much and the money does seem to last awhile with them. 25c a minute rings a bell

You plug your modem cable (RJ-45) to the outlet on the side of the telephone in your room and dial the local (Orlando) number for yout internet service provider (ISP), ex. AOL, JUNO, NetZero.
You need to find out what the closest local number to the hotel is so you won't get charged long distance.
If the hotel has a charge for using the in-room phone, you will need to pay that to the hotel. If you use a local number for your ISP, that will be free.

'tis a bit sticky that for UK people :/
I don't know of any UK providers that have a "free" set of access points in the US although SOME do have a "roaming agreement" which you normally pay through the nose for.
First thing. Phone your internet provider, explain you're going to orlando, ask if they have any local access points.. no? Any roaming access?
If no luck there, then you're left with either trying to get a US account which can be dodgy if you don't have a US address or credit card to type in (even for the trials :/) or you can borrow an account from someone in the US....
OR you can do what whitequeen said she was going to try which was one of the pay as you go providers. You can, as redkop says, get a cdrom of one of these from whsmiths. I think ones called http://www.access4free.com/
You then attach your phone cable to a) your computer modem port and b) either the side or bottom of the phone OR the phone socket on the wall.
Dial the local access point (having checked with the front desk that it IS a local call) and bobs your rather confused aunty.
At disney, the local call will cost you 75c a time for as long as you want. Then you may have a pay-as-you-go or roaming charge to pay from your internet provider usually on your credit card or on your top up card depending how the one you choose works.
The alternative is go to one of the disney deluxes and just plug your laptop network cable into the wall socket or use your wifi card! It'll cost you $10 a day basically but it'll be fast and convenient :/

mmmm, will probably use the booths - they were very easy to use last time - seems like a hassle and probably more expensive the other way.
Lets face it if the net keeps on expanding as it is it wont be long before wi-fi is standard throughout - heck it wont be long before internet access is provided in each room via the TV i would have thought

Well in most business hotels, yep you're dead right, it's on the tv in the rooms now.. nice fast broadband access often included in the room price. Some hotels at Disney even have it... Wyndham palace in downtown disney etc.
But yeah again you're right... everywhere will end up being "wi-fi'd" and finally we really will have a hitchikers guide to the galaxy style "ether-net"
In the meantime, I have to admit, the booths are a great idea

If we have a disc with some of our wedding photos on we will be able to upload these, attach them to an email and send them home, do the computers have these facilities??
Keith

Nope I don't believe so... the internet kiosks (from what I can remember) have no cd drives etc. You may well be able to use a business bureau in the deluxe hotels to do it though :/

I'm online now at the Poly with www.access-4-free.com dial up. cost $5 to register and they accept UK CC cards / addresses. you get 10 hours a month free and it's $1 hour after that up to $10 max charge . it works fine and all 407 access numbers are local (and I've checked my room bill to make sure )
gotta dash there's a kugaloosh out there somewhere with my name on it.......

Our problem was we have cable internet at home..so I don't have a dial up server. I was sunk. It wasn't a bad deal though...75 cents every time you dial up. I just couldn't use it. I need to find something that I can use when I'm not at home and not able to find wireless.
It was funny, while we were going to Orlando, I'd have my laptop on and playing games or sorting pictures and every once in a while a little box would pop up and say "Wireless connection has been detected...do you want to log on?" And this was while we were driving through cities! Cracked me up.

There are several Barnes and Noble stores. Do a search of store locations using your resort address as the starting point to get a list of those nearest where you will be staying.

If you live in the US the easiest thing to do is go for AOL's free 45 day trial and use dial up from the room. It's a 75 cent call each time you log in but there are local numbers. I did this a couple of weeks ago and had no problems at all
