Just planning well in advance (we don't fly out until next May!), but just looking into what in-resort meal options I have for arrival day.
We'll be staying (my girlfriend and I) at Port Orleans French Quarter. We'll arrive on a Sunday, probably around 5pm (flight gets in around 3.15pm) The options I think we have available are:
1) In room pizza delivery (possible option if we're too tired from the trip!)
2) Eat in resort at Sassagoula Floatworks
3) Stroll / take bus to Riverside and eat at Riverside Mill Court
4) Stroll / take bus to Riverside and eat at Boatwrights Dining Hall (I guess I'd have to call in advance and make a PS for this?)
Other options I can see would be to get a boat/bus into Downtown Disney - have a stroll around there and perhaps pop into somewhere there??
Having never been to Disney World, I don't have much idea on what to expect. I guess it also depends on how you are feeling at the time as to what we might do. Really I am just wondering how viable these options are, and whether you would particularly reccommend/avoid doing any of them.
Any other good tips for this resort in general??
Many thanks all :D

You have your options correct - you may want to order pizza out from Pizza Hut or any of the off sight pizza places that deliver though too - it may cost less and you may like the pizza better. Other than that, the only other options for dinning would be to leave the resort as you already mentioned either to DTD by boat - plenty of options there or any of the 4 parks.

Thanks for that - I didn't think of ordering pizza from outside the world. Where can you pick up menus / phone numbers for places outside the world that will deliver?

Actually, not positive - I've seen pizza hut and Domino's delivery cars pulling in and out of OKW lots of times so I know they deliver to the resorts - maybe there's a phone book in the rooms - can't remember, sorry. Maybe you could go to www.realpages.com and write down a few phone #'s ahead of time to bring with you (that's the yellow pages for Bellsouth). ;)

You should also have a telephone book in your room :) remember that local calls from your room phone are going to cost you $0.75 each

We have stayed at PO-FQ twice before (and will be again in late April 2005) and always on our arrival day we take the boat to DTD. You can stroll through the shops stopping along the way at any of the many restaurants for a enjoyable dinner. We find that this sets the tone for our visit with the mouse. The best part of DTD is the boat ride there and back. I think this beats sitting in your room and eating pizza! :) Hope you have fun.

That does sound like a good idea - my only worry is that with it being the day we arrive it might take us a while to get our bearings etc. How long on average would it take to get from you room at POFQ to DTD using the boat service? Is it quicker than using the bus?
Are all restaurants at DTD walk-in, or do you need PS?
I think DTD may be a better choice - as you say it'll set the theme for the holiday, and I guess it'll offer better choice than staying in resort.

The boats run about every 20 minutes, and the actual boat ride is about 15 to 20 minutes, so probably about 30 to 45 minutes total. it may take a bit longer by boat, but it is a lot more relaxing and enjoyable than a bus ride. Some of the restaurants accept PS (some don't) but I have never had any trouble just walking in. maybe a 16 minute wait at most. Also DTD is larger than most people think so don't try to see and do it all in one evening.

You can also take the boat to Riverside. We always take the boat to DTD when we stay at POFQ on our arrival day...no matter what time we arrive.
Boatwrights is a great place to eat. I love the decor. The food court at POFQ is like the other foodcourts, but some of the menu has cool stuff...like BEIGNETS! love those things!

You can take a boat to Riverside from FQ??
How long does it take to stroll from FQ to Riverside? And how long is it by noat/bus? I know it'll depend where about your room is based I just wanted a general idea.
Thanks again for all your help everyone - everone is so knowledgable!

The boat comes from DTD, stops at POFQ first and then heads to Riverside. They'll let you on to go to POR.
