I stayed at the Dolphin and we had a great time there. First, the pool was great its a grotto pool. Beds are heavenly and plenty of restaraunts to choose from. Some might disagree with me when I say its an all around wonderful resort. Sort of like the contemporary....some people either love it or some don't.
Also, I must add the location of the dolphin is great. Its right there between Epcot and MGM and the boardwalk is right there also. On the down side....there are no mickey soaps, etc and not any mickey wake up calls. This didn't bother me any. I also enjoyed the pianist that played down in the lobby in the evenings. I do hope you enjoy the dolphin resort....let us know how you like it.
BTW .....I have only stayed at the Contemporary twice, Shades of Green twice, Dolphin once. If I had to choose a favorite It would be tied between the contemporary and dolphin. We are returning back to the Dolphin in April and can't wait:woohoo:

I don't know that I could choose my fave anymore.
I really liked the contemporary because we were able to walk in a couple of minutes from the magic kingdom after the fireworks (but some of the staff were absolutely awful).
I don't like the poly much for the money because once you're out in the separate buildings, its all a bit motel like although the staff there were brill and I like the lobby.
I really like AKL. It's so atmospheric and interesting and the good bus service means that being far out doesnt matter THAT much but I have to admit, walking (or taking a boat) to MK/epcot is really nice.
So I'm tempted to say that the wilderness lodge is my current fave. It's not as expensive as the poly/gf etc. It's a short boat ride from MK. It's all in one so you dont have to walk outside in the rain to get to an outside building or anything. It's got a great restaurant (Artist point) and then there's that whispering canyon place <G> great christmas decorations and a nice little strech of beach.

For regular WDW resort hotels, The Beach Club.
For DVC resorts, Old Key West.

I loved Pop Century, but I have never stayed at anything other than a value resort, In August my family might be staying at Coronado Springs, which I have always wanted to stay at. I would love to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Beach Club, or the BoardWalk.

I've only stayed at four WDW resorts--one of which no longer exists! Club Lake Villas were part of a convention center that was incorporated into the Disney Institute. I liked the layout of those rooms--an "L" shape, with the bedroom in one part of the "L" separated from the living/kitchen area of the "L" by the bathroom and dressing area. They were expensive at that time, around $200 per night in 1981!
I like all of the other three for different reasons. The Yacht Club for its location and terrific staff. The Friendship launches to EPCOT & Disney/MGM are terrific; the bus service to the other parks and DTD less so. They share bus service with BC, Swan & Dolphin & Boardwalk--or did in August, 2003.
Coronado Springs is a convenient location to all of the parks except AK and the bus service was excellent. Wasn't crazy about the food, but I'm a very picky eater. The staff was friendly and helpful. Would love to be a kid and play in The Dig Site!
Pop Century truly is a value resort. It's also in a good location. I didn't use the bus service on that trip--for some reason, I actually used the rental car instead of leaving it in the parking lot for most of the trip! :hehe: The rooms are small, but very neat and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it isn't too difficult to get around the resort on foot.

We have just stayed in AKL and Boardwalk in the past week. I have also stayed in GF, Contemporary, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and Saratoga Springs. I think my favorite for location was the Polynesian. It also may have been my favorite because we stayed in Concierge.
GF is also beautiful and the staff extremely friendly. We really enjoyed the Boardwalk for it's location. My DH says that his favorite is Wilderness Lodge. I would be torn between Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian. AKL was really neat and we had giraffe right outside our patio, but it is further out. This wouldn't bother me so much if I wasn't traveling with 2 small kids and a stroller. The kids activities here were wonderful and I could see staying here and never going to the parks.

I have stayed at the following WDW Resorts (from when I was old enough to remember): Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge Villas, Boardwalk Villas, Old Key West, Beach Club Villas, Yacht Club, Grand Floridian, Dolphin, and the Carribean Beach. My favorite has been the Boardwalk because the atmosphere is great, but the Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian are a close second. The Wilderness Lodge is so far away from everything, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. The boat ride to Magic Kingdom is nice though.
I think choice of hotels all has to do with your choice of transportation. We generally rent a car when we're done there, so not being on the monorail line isn't a big deal. However, if you're not going to rent a car, being on the monorail line is super nice. Depending on bus services all the time can be a bit frustrating out at the Wilderness Lodge. Having a car really helps.

Disney's Port Orleans Riverside. The layout is superb, it's clean, the rooms are comfortable and I love the boatride to Downtown Disney.
