My wife and i would like to stay at the Grand Floridian next Christmas. We are looking at a 1 bedroom suite. Are they kid friendly? Or, is there a better resort to stay that will give us the same ammenties or more in the same price range.

Please reply with any helpful info.

Thanks

Carl

Wow, what a lovely idea :D

We stayed on site for the first time this year, and even though it was only DH and I we loved ASMo......you never know, one day we may be able to afford the £ for the Grand Floridian.........:cloud9:

If you stay at GF I am sure you will be happy. Any WDW resort is going to be kid friendly. It's a beautiful place BUT I can't recommend the Beach Club enough. I know the Grand Floridian is the "jewel in the crown" & there is nothing bad you can say about it. But for the money I would rather be at BEach Club. The pool is amazing, the proximity to Epcot, Boardwalk & MGM, Beaches & Cream plus Cape May Cafe'. You could get in a villa for probably less that a 1br at GF but of course I dont' know that for sure.

If you read any of Slowhands trip reports you'll get a good impression of the GF

what you pay for a room at the gf, you could get a villa for 14 nights instead that equates to 4 nights at the gf

i spent 3 days at the GF and it was just WOW

nothing was too much trouble for the CM's

the location just 1 stop on the monorail to the MK is unbeatable

only one thing i can think of against it --the price

Carl,

I liken the Grand Floridian to a comfortable Grandparent's house. I've seen many happy children there. It's very lovely, and extremely convenient to the Magic Kingdom.

I also like BigThunder's suggestion of the Yacht and Beach Club, which I heartily recommend if you've got older children or teens. The pool there is magnificent, however, it's large and I can't imagine being a Mom of a wee one there - I'd be on edge the whole time as it's more of a mini-water park than just being a hotel pool. My kids are 8 and 14, and both of them loved it, but I still got nervous when they are out of site.

Both are fabulous resorts. When are you going?

GF is a great idea. You might want to get two rooms tho

a villa at the BC for 14 nights compared to 4 nights at GF?? If I am understanding you correctly there would be no question in my book, I'd be basking at the Beach Club!

as far as little ones at the BC pool: the first time we ever stayed there in '01 my girls were 3 & 8. I put my big behind in a bathing suit & I am in there with them the whole time as is my husband. Even now that they are older, I'm right there with them. But, what can I say, I'm pretty much in the pool with them no matter where we swim. The little one still makes me nervous to think of her on her own. But Stormalong Bay is a massive pool. There is no way you could sit in a lounge chair & see the whole thing.

The suites at the GF are very lovely but remember that most of them are not in the main building. You will have access to the concierge lounge in the main building and sugar loaf building

Here are the description of the one bedroom suites that will accommodate 6. If you definitely want to be in the main building, I would look at the cost of 2 connecting rooms there.

B4 – is a one bedroom, 2 bath suite with 2 queen beds in the bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa in the parlor. There is also a conference table and 2 wet bars. It is located in the outer lodge. Sleeps 6. 931 sq. ft.

BN - sleeps 6 people and is located in the outer lodge. It is one bedroom suite with 2 queen beds. There is a queen sleeper sofa and a conference table in the parlor area. There are 2 wet bars, 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies. 931 sq. ft.

I have stayed at the Grand Floridian with my kids and everyone was very nice and it is definitely kid friendly

I love the Epcot resorts but if you are going to be spending most of your time at the Magic Kingdom then the monorail resorts will be your best choice

Big Thunder I believe that the villa response was referring to an offsite villa. I can't imagine 14 nights at the Beach Club being the same price as 4 at GF.

I thought that seemed pretty far out.
But I thought the original poster was talking about a 1 BR at the GF & heavens only knows how expensive that is! LOL So I thought someone might have been comparing a suite at the GF with a 1BR villa at the BCV.

I would love to stay at any of the Epcot resorts. They're so close to everything that I enjoy. Great food, different food, so close. Ahhhh, hopefully sometime.

We are trying the GF (main building concierge) this year with our 2 kids (4 and 8). They have lots of special kids stuff going on from there like the pirate cruise, tea party, grand adventures in cooking. I think you'll enjoy it there. It's all about location and surroundings and the perfect vacation, not cost IMO. If you think you'll like it there, you probably will. Many people say 'you can get a villa offsite cheap' etc, but I couldn't stand that driving to the parks and having to wash dishes, definitely not for me, but each to their own!! I like to be in a park within 10 minutes :D I would second the looking into 2 rooms in the main building too

I can't imagine staying offsite. I'm not one who has to be in the park within 10 minutes of leaving my room but the time it would take to get there from an offsite resort, ack! If you can afford it, go where your heart desires!

it was one of my lifes wishes to stay in the GF , as well as to get married in WDW
i am so glad we stayed there it was every bit as good as i hoped
so i say go for it
if you are still unsure do 1/2 the vacation at each then next time you will know which is best
